  1. @AndyMB

Top man appreciate the reply buddy. I heard that pairing the servo and gyro can be as the onisiki pair would work really well together, but as I understand it speed is the key with servos.

Think I might try the onisiki pair up at first, as it seems good value for money, like you say. I've also read really good things about the omg servos being programmable, even though the setup/tuning would probably go straight over my head!

Also I'll be sure to check out Slide Dynamics RC thanks for the tip! 👍🏼

  2. So after seeing a nearly brand new D5 chassis for sale at the right money I decided to bite the bullet and buy it.

I've got an old (never used) 8.5T 4000kV motor, I bought a ezrun max 10 esc with the program card, so all I need now is a servo, a bodyshell and a gyro as I've got a spare Rx for my RC6GS.

So noobie drifter questions would be what do you guys recommend servo and gyro wise?

The rx for the radiolink has a built in gyro but I'm not sure how good it would be for drifting.. Has anyone tried it?

Also does anyone know the size of the push connectors are that fit straight in the ezrun10? As I have the ones for the motor but would like to make them all removable from both sides (motor and esc)

As always any help is appreciated but I am trying to make this on a budget so best price for usability is what I'm looking for atm not best out there if that makes sense? 🤷🏼‍♂️

  3. As in the title im looking for a RWD drifter all things considered, as I have a possible motor, and a gyro rx.

Please feel free to reply on the thread or pm me details thanks in advance guys! ✌🏼🤙🏼

  4. I bought a trx6 a while back used it 3 times and then saw one of these for sale/swap.. Soooo I now have a kronos!  😃

It's got the V2 kit unopened with it a few other spares like rear driveshaft, a couple of V1 wing mounts, the alloy wheelie bar, the alloy centre diff, a set of belted SRC terrain crusher road tyres and what looks like a baja 5b RPM bumper fitted to the the front. Not a bad deal in my eyes..

So my plans are to overhaul the diffs to make sure the oils are right. I was going to do 100/400/50.

Also I was hoping to pick the brains of some of you guys as to what shock oil weight your running?

All in all though, I've not been into anything too quick for a good while and its safe to say this beast has impressed me!

  5. WOW!

This looks like it was an epic outing gents! The quarry looks like hours of fun (from the look of the angles and the surfaces, I could try and crawl all day on just a couple of the sections pictured) and the rigs look amazing! Like seriously cool 😎

All these power wagon shots have got me developing a fetish! Also loving the braised cage Andy, really suits the truck! 👍 it's even got me thinking about a pickup version of the D110 now... 🤔

Again the day looked awesome and some really cool pics on this thread of everyone's trucks! ✌🏻

    • Thanks 2
  6. I have seen a vid on the pen spring mod, really cool idea IMO.

I'll have a go at it I think,  for the cost of four pens it can't be a bad shout. How do you find the recoil rate after doing the mod any better? I saw a mod with the relocating of the back shocks too, that has them leaning forwards on a 45'ish° angle.. doesnt do much for the recoil but adds what looks like alot of droop to the rear axle might be a good shout with the pen mod aswell? I'll have to give it a go.

    Thanks for the advice 👍

Wasnt sold much on the capra's at first, however after seeing them crawl... what beasts! Tbh it's looks are really growing on me too!

  7. Some more advice needed please guys.. (I know it's getting ominous now..)

So what are peoples thoughts on running droop vs. Sprung setups on the standard shocks?

I'm kind of leaning towards a comp/droop setup atm but don't want to lose too much ground clearance, however I know with droop GC does drop. Which isn't too much of a worry as it's still lowering the CoG even if only slightly.

Any links you guys could share with me would be HUGELY appreciated  and well studied.. 👍

  8. @DartmoorTrails,

Thanks for the comparison buddy, this is what I'm after really, real life comparisons. (hence spending most of the morning [much to her indoors' disapproval] watching trx4's tyre comparison vids 😁)

But I'm coming to the same conclusion that the hyrax's might be the ones as they seem to be a pretty good all-rounder too.

Thanks again for the knowledge man, really appreciate it 👍

  9. Cheers @CarlC!

I did see the inserts on the modelsport page, but wasn't sure if it was just for illustration/photography purposes.

I think from the vids the chap uploaded that they make pretty good inserts and from what they are made of, water getting in shouldn't really be an issue, so venting shouldn't be too much of an problem I.E not having to vent them after every dip.

But I'll take pics incase it's a good mod and start a thread with a "how to" for shape if any mods are needed 😁

  10. Cheers @CarlC!

I am swayed towards them tbh, as I mostly run on sandstone or loose'ish gravel/duckers..  The two stages are on the list, but a guy on a fb page I follow mentioned he'd had really good results running on Predator compound with 130mm hair scrunchies for inserts.. Got to be worth a try for under a skydiver🤷🏼‍♂️.

But if all else fails I've got the 3 stages, the stock traxxas foams to fall back on but will definitely look at the two stages as they seem to be a massive contender.

Thanks again for the input Carl, it appreciated buddy! ✌🏻

  11. I do @Andy-Roo, I think I may have punctured the back tyres on the trail as it seems to let the air out but wont draw it back in. The front dont do it they stay soft but pressured like they should but the backs look knackered after being on the ground for 5 mins.

I should have took a pic really last time I took it out.. 🤦🏼‍♂️

But the cheap chinese triple stage foams aren't bad but still aren't the best, I dont think they help too much lol.

  12. Cheers gents! As always the knowledge is always welcome!

@Andy-Roo I was looking at these earlier they are quite abit like the BF Goodrich Baja's I used to run on my disco back a few years.. love the look of them and if the predator compound is as good as I've read about, they might well be the winners..

@stimpy, thanks brother! 👍🏻😁 I  went with the Hackmoto due to HH trailmaster being in short supply in the UK atm 🙁

To me though if they sold out in 24hrs, that's a good sign, but the reason I'm using MS atm is I won the weekly prize this week so.. £20 off new boots! 😁 and budget, budget, budget!

But I'm still not sure on a certain winner yet..

I'm going to have to watch a few youtube comparison vids and I'm thinking about drilling some vent holes in the wheels I bought, as I've had some flat spot woes of late.. thoughts on this guys?

Thanks again the help is well recieved

    😁

  13. From my own point of view I've been doing alot of reading about the differences between the cheap and cheery' and the bowhouse.

I'm building on a budget to be honest, but IMO the bowhouse is worth the money, its next on my list after some new boots, hope this has helped 👍🏻

  14. Soooooo after a little spending spree on the trx, I ended up buying the HW1080 for a mear £34.08 😎 which I felt was a good price.

Aswell as a Yeah Racing Hackmoto 35T V2 motor (as I know Simon at Greens Models stocks the springs and brushed for a rebuild) for a grand total of £21.56.. again 😎lol..

My next question for the vast knowledge of you guys is; what tyres would you guys reccomend off the ModelSport website? I run on mostly on rock, sandstone and mud.

I have heard great things about the hyrax's and the Gmades have a good rep too but I figured you guys probably have a much more testing under the belt than I do.

If you could list what tyres you use on what rigs for comparison and what you would like to use / reccomend it would be greatly appreciated this end.

    Thanks in advance peeps! ✌

P.S @stimpy, the scrunchies will be getting tested soon as the tyres land 😁

Sorry stimpy, couldn't remove the quote for some reason? 🤷🏼‍♂️

But yer, again I apologise, I meant to reply but I've had some testing times recently.. I tried a few different setups on the weights for crawling and ended with 85g fronts and 50g on the rears and it seems pretty sweet for now. However I would be looking at removing them in the future once some shiny stuff has been purchased.  I've also read that 130mm hair scrunchies, make for great tyre inserts that arent affected by water but for a grand total of four punds, it's got to be worth a testing run?! 🤷🏼‍♂️

Next on the list is the bowhouse LCoG tray as I've got a 4000mah 3S turnigy Graphene for trailing and two 2200mah 3S turnigy Graphene shorty's and a 230mm velcro strap to try and relocate them in front of the steering servo for the crawling side of things. Small changes I know but when your working to a scale small changes can lead to big things, hopefully 🤞🏻

I'm planning some fettling tomorrow when I change the ESC & motor back over and rewire my big bro's carnage for him, so I shall try and get back out to the bomb hole and run it back up the hill of doom as it's supposed to be scorchio tomorrow and sandstone seems to be good fun in the dry!

Pic doesnt really do it justice, but the it's about 40-45ft and an incline of between 35° and 45° depending on the line you pick 😁

As Andy says and you have concluded!... Het that bought when you can...

As to your brushless system, whilst I’m not an expert on BL I do know that the motor you chose there is way too quick / hungry for a crawler.

As to ESCs, Generally a 60/80A esc is used And suffices...

    Pics look grand 👍😎

    Thanks or the compliment Stimpy!

But yer, I think the 1080 is next although I'm going to put the xl5 back in for now until the HW gets here then possibly look at HH motor but again in no hurry as it's already got the RC4WD 27T crawler motor in atm. Which from what I've read, is still a sturdy motor but alot of people cant say enough about the HW/HH setup.

Cant wait to start pouring into some more scale accessories for the looks, but performance is going to come first me thinks!

In the form of brass and LCG upgrades 😁🤞🏻

Good things come to those who wait.
