After some advice for my brother,he has just been contacted by ex girlfriends sister that there is a letter arrived with a speeding fine at there flat he used to share (hasn't lived there for nearly 2years)
The speeding offence was dated to have happened in May this year and was in a hire car that he was given by the company he was working for, he's an actor and was touring England for about 4 months in a theatre play.
Now he's not disputing the offence but he was with 4 other people and they all took turns in driving (agreed by hire company) now he can't be sure who was driving as they sometimes visited 5 different places each week and all took turns, and it was about 5 months ago.
Problem is they have chased him as it was booked out in his name, he is currently not in contact with the other guys as the tour is finished.
Now looks as though the reason it has taken so long to reach him is the police have had to go through the hire company to track him down but for some reason they have used his old address despite him giving them his new one it's also his new address on his drivers licence which they had a copy of so god only knows why they still had address he hasn't used for 2 years on there files.
He is now stuck on how to play it as there only chasing him he doesn't want to take blame for something that might not be him.
Also it hasn't actually reached his registered address only reason he knows is ex sister has told him and it's not his fault hire company gave wrong details his licence was up to date and the hire company have sent stuff to his new address. He could probably track down the other guys but you can pretty much guarantee what there all gonna say.
Anyone know if there is a time limit on a speeding conviction, I know the original letter is ment to be 14 days but I believe that's different with hire cars or newly purchased/registered cars?
Any advice would be appreciated
