  1. Disagreeing with the statement that the OP needs to raise their budget to get a durable, bashable 4wd truck on par price wise with the Firestorm. The Carnage fits the bill.
  2. Disagree 100%. I've got a Firestorm Flux and a Carnage brushless and both are very durable and bashable. The only thing that I've change regularly on both is the spur gear and that is more down to set up than anything else
  3. Dollarhobbyz are well price but I have found that they are somewhat limited in what parts they stock. Either way the OP will be satisfied with either one.
  4. How old is old? If it is an original from back in the day I'd consider putting aside and shelling out for something else.
  5. Agreed. The Flux is a good proposition at that price, although spare parts are a bit pricey. Another option is the Rustler whose spare are slightly cheaper. This is an expensive hobby so the cost of spares needs to be seriously considered
  6. All of the above are a good choice. Firestorm: Strong out of the box, handles very well but replacement parts are expensive. Rustler: Strong out of the box, handles well, good electrics, cheap replacement parts. RS2: Competiviely priced. Decent handling, cheap replacement parts I run a Rustler and cannot fault it and is my personal recommendation
  7. Slash all the way. 4x4. As tough as old boots OUT OF THE BOX.
  8. That is really good shipping. The quickest I have experienced is 3wks.
  9. Totally agree. RC ownership is not cheap at the best of times and my brother will attest to the high maintenance costs of the Firestorm. At the end of the day both are really good truggies
  10. As I said before subjective. My brother and I bought our truggies at he same time. He got a firestorm and I the xl-5. Let's just say in the first few months of ownership he replaced more parts than me, particularly at the front end. Since hoping up it isactually the reverse. Subjective.
  11. A lot stronger? That is subjective and not based on any facts. i agree handling is a bit better but for general bashing the difference is not that noticeable.
  12. If you and your daughter are new to the rc world I would highly recommend a "Brushed" Traxxas Rustler first off. Very tough, durable, waterproof and for newbies the ESC has a Training Mode which turns down the wick while you both gain more confidence and experience in car control. Once you are both happy the fitting a brushless system is relatively cheap at about 70 GBP. RC can be an expensive past time
  13. It was not the first time I had geared so high and normally it is geared lower. The ESC had over temp protection enabled so the circuitry could not have been fried. I did pull the trigger but would stll like to understand how an ESC can cause cogging.
  14. Hi all, I have a Rustler XL-5 with an Ezrun 60a ESC, 8.5t motor and normally use a fully charged 5000mah 2S 20C lipo. The truggy has run flawlessly on this set up. On Sunday I was out in the park bashing around. The gearing was to high, 23/90, as I could not find my 19t pinion. Anyhow, everything was fine for a while. I kept an eye on the motor temp by applying the how long touch test and was not overly concerned. Never checked the ESC temp but over heat protection was enabled After about 15mins of full throttle and walking pace throttle the truggy started cogging. It has never done it before. I installed another fully charged battery and it continued to cog.. Whilst changing the battery I noticed that the ESC was no longer taped down. It had obviously been bashed about a bit. Anyway, playtime was over. Later that evening I removed the transmission cover, in the hope that the pinion may be lose or spinning on the spindle. All was OK. Tried to spin the wheels but it still cogged. Loosened the pinion from the spur and eventually the motor spun up. I then changed some of the ESC settings noting, or hoping, that the on/off switch was being temperamental as the ESC would not always switch on. No change. Still cogging. Hooked up a 13.5t to the ESC and that cogged. Tried the 8.5t on another ESC and it spins up. So I think the motor is OK and the ESC is the problem. So I am about to pull the trigger on another ESC but before I do so would like to know: Why and how is the ESC is cogging the motor? Could it be due to moisture ingress as the grass was very wet? If there any check I could do other than measuring the resistance between the ESC wires? Thanks in advance
