  1. Yeah, France is nice. It was zero degrees, fog & constant rain, but funny enough, I didn't mind it. Gotta get used to it now though
  2. Hi guys. Been away for a few months & now moving from Lanzarote to France. My car is still off the road, but where I'm moving to, has a lot more hobby shops etc, so hopefully will be up & running within a month & back on here.
  3. I'm no expert either, but I'd agree that it's just running too rich. By the way alexi, did the button thing on top come off easy, if you don't mind me asking?
  4. Hi Rev & welcome. I'm a newbie'ish as well & I can say, that the guys here are very helpful
  5. Well, my engine is a force .21, so maybe it's normal in them, if you say your's spins easily.
  6. Yes, it does have one brass shim.
  7. Can anyone confirm, whether it's normal for the bit the glow plug screws into, to sit loosely on the cylinder head. or be a tight fit. When I stripped my old engine, I couldn't budge this bit from the piston sleeve, but the new one is very loose. Wondering if this is part causing my tuning problems. I've noticed a build up of fuel inside the heatshield, which may be coming from there.
  8. Yeah, I've seen that on a post here somewhere. Will have a peruse for it. I've stripped the carb & fitted my old exhaust back on, so gonna have a go myself again tomorrow. I'm not too bothered, 'cos being the persistent bugger that I am, I know I'll get it going eventually
  9. All started out Ok at the lhs. The guy was quite enthusiastic. He got it running & started adjusting the carb, but when he gave it a bit of throttle, it cut out still. Carried on fiddling about, but eventually what was happening, was, he'd rev it up & let go of the throttle & it would still rev momentarily & then come down after a delay. He reckons it's sucking in air somewhere. His solution was to try & sell me another engine, but this one I have, has only just been run in. He got fed up in the end, said "adios" & went for a coffee. Quite hilarious really. Anyway, I'm back to square one. I've got another carb & am going to try that on it. Failing that, I'm stumped
  10. I'm gonna watch how he tunes it for future reference. He certainly seems to know his stuff. He's the owner & runs 2 or 3 cars himself.
  11. I'm getting him to look at it, 'cos I've had numerous go's at tuning it & can't get it right. Two heads are better than one & if he can do better than me, then I'll be happy.
  12. Excellent news. Very accomodating chap in the model shop, supplied a new spring & also fitted a much stronger pull string to my broken one, all for the cost of 10 euros. Gonna get him to repair the other one so I've got a spare & he's also going to take a look at the car for me & tune it correctly.
  13. I've been looking at the specs on both of these cars & they seem identical, except for wheels & tyres. Would this mean then, that if I bought the on road & wanted to use it off road, all I would need to do is use the off road wheels, probably with adjustments to the suspension. Thanks. http://www.thundertiger-europe.com/ssr.html
  14. Yes to all of that. New day, new beginning. I've calmed down now, so going to order 2 new ones from motorsport. Apart from anything else, I've bought new fuel & I'm not going to waste it
  15. Won't be pulling them out too far anymore. I've just lobbed both of them in the bin. They've totally stressed me out to-night trying to fix them. Gonna try & invent a better idea, until I get a replacement.
  16. No, the string couldn't have broke, because the knot was still intact, when it came away. I believe the end of the spring broke, where it slots into the centre of the spool, but the string just doesn't look that strong.
  17. I've broken mine & can't fix it. I am able to buy an exact replacement from Motorsport, but I was wondering if anyone knows if a different make would fit, as the pull string on mine (force .21) is more like cotton & doesn't last 5 minutes.
  18. Thanks for the pull start link guys. I've been at it for an hour now. Looks really simple in the "How To" guide, but so far, I've narrowly missed being decapitated, came close to losing an eye, have twice had to dodge an out of control spring carreeing round the room & my fingers are killing me. I love this model car malarky
  19. Just thought I'd add, that I e-mailed Modelsport, as they have the right pull start for my car. Really helpful & will be ordering it. Not only a great forum, but I can get spares sent out as well. Brilliant.
  20. Had it running this morning on the bench & attempting to fine tune it. Couldn't get the revs down enough, with the throttle practically closed. I tried doing it by the lsn. All this is irrelevant now though, as the pull start string has broken. Back on the shelf for another 4 years I s'pose. Don't believe it, I was that close On closer inspection, it looks like the string has pulled out, 'cos the knots still on the end Edit that:- Took it aprt okay, but then the spring flew out, so that's the end of that.

  22. I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself properly before. I've been annoying people on here for a month or so already, with my questions & RC problems, but then it's never too late to say hi. I live in Lanzarote, Canary Islands & have done for the past 20 years, so I'm getting used to it now . I've had my 1/8th scale, force .21 driven nitro car for about 8 years, although it's been off the road for the past 4, due to a blown engine & not being able to get replacements or spares here. Now have a new engine & upon discovering this forum, it's renewed my enthusiasm & I'm raring to go again. Engine in, just got to master the tuning. Thanks for all your help so far guys. Great site.
  23. Hi & welcome. Being a noobie myself, let me just tell you, the forums great & the help even better
  24. Yeah, that would seem to be the jobby, although it states there, for .26 & above. Handy for me as well, as they accept paypal, although not sure if they post abroad. Thanks for finding that James
  25. I've read that the makers of my engine (force .21), recommend a long glowplug. They suggest an OFNA/PICCO #51007 without idle bar ( don't know what that means). Can't find these anywhere, but have found a Traxxas one in the on-line Motorsport UK shop. Firstly, do you think this would aid the running of the car & secondly, will any long plug be OK. I've noticed also, that they don't seem to be numbered.
