1. before i totalled my vintage mardave cobra, every day. My dog loves chasing RCs and it's a test of my skill me vs jack russel in the woods. been a year since then. i bought a micro DT but it only lasted a couple of months and wasn't any use for the above. building a mini-t now, might do a hyper next year for the above. hope to get my mini-t finished in time to get some good weather bashing done before the snow arrives and i go snowbashing lol
2. Pb mode should detect when the battery reaches a certain state of charge. that 1a max is from the startingbox/battery manual? i wouldn't use the max unless you absolutely have to.. the slower you charge the better (to a point) with lead acids and gel cells.. charge them as slow as you can, but i wouldn't go above 0.5a - the best rule of thumb is that the max charge rate is the capacity of the battery divided by ten but as gel cells are a lot more sensitive than lead acids dont use quite that much, maybe divide by 15 store the battery in a warmish place and it wont lose any charge you'll notice over a short period of time.. i'd advise just being a bit more organised and sticking it on charge in plenty of time before you need it. If you use your SLAs a lot, look into a float/trickle charger. these take ages to charge a battery from discharged but you can leave an SLA on them almost indefinitely or preferably give it a burst of top up once a month through times you arent using it.. and they're usually quite cheap being very low power devices. Trickle chargers are noted by their charge rate being the capacity of the battery divided by 100, or slightly more.
3. yes. The accucel has Pb mode - or lead acid mode. Same type of batteries as in motorcycles, cars, etc.. the accucel charges them all i used it the other day to top off the battery on a vintage motorcycle. Will do starter box batteries no problem theyre the same just smaller. It took bloody ages, but last winter i had to put a load of charge in my land rover as a certain person left the auxilliary heater on when she parked it up.. I've got a truck charger that would do it easy but i decided to try and do it with the accucel for the lulz and to see if it could. It did. If it takes a charge, the accucel series will charge it. Upon buying mine, i gave away all the other battery chargers in the house except my big truck battery charger (for huge haulage vehicle batteries) and set up some AA/AAA holders on a charge board. I now use it to charge every battery in my house. I've even used it to charge my mobile phone battery properly rather than like a dumb charger.
4. i agree with everything posted above. Brushless electric is so much less work. If you want to spend as much time or more working on it than you do driving it, get nitro. If you want something that sounds and smells good get nitro. If you want to drive it, get electric. They're cheaper in the long run, can be faster, are more reliable. A good one will take more punishment. I love nitros and they're cool and all but can't be bothered with all the work. The only benefit to a nitro as far as i can see is you can fuel it, run it, fuel it, run it etc for a long time.. with electric you'd need either loads of batteries, or to take a charger and power for it with you. This isn't as much of a problem as it used to be. When packs cost 50 plus pounds each, this was a big problem. the cheaper lipos available now effectively wipe out this issue. edit: if you're dead set on a nitro - i was, and bought a schumacher rascal 2 which was an awesomely wicked truck once it had been tweaked a bit, but too much work still so i sold it to a mate after a few months.. who sold it to another mate after a few runs.. and i think he sold it too - get a Hyper 7. They're sensibly priced, ready to run, incredibly capable, tough as old boots covered in concrete, and reasonably easy and cheap to convert to brushless electric later if you decide nitro isnt for you, or the engine blows, or whatever. Much better value IMO than an E-Firestorm and being a 1/8 scale rather than 1/10 it will do more off road.
5. the accucel 6 is a great charger, but very limited on power as are all the ones you linked. I recommend the accucel 8 if you're going to charge big packs on it plenty (particularly lipos) - or the Ansmann Racing Xmove 2.0 Deluxe which is the same charger as the accucel 8 but comes with charge leads. these are both 150w chargers. I wish I had bought one instead of the 50w *6 version. You need to check the voltage and amps of the laptop power supply. DO NOT go above 16v. Oddly enough, the closer you are to 16v, the better. volts x amps = watts. You need at least a 70w power supply to safely run the 6 cell 50w chargers at their full power. On ebay, you can get a cheap 15v 5a (75w) laptop type power supply which will run them. I run mine on a 15v 4a (60w) old IBM laptop power supply, but i'm careful about how far i push the charger on this power supply. It should be able to take it, but it's an old psu (15 years) so i'm careful. Modelsport's 200w adjustable power supplies are good for the larger *8 chargers.
6. Hmm. You sure it's an M3 mate? just had a brainfart and remembered i've got a micrometer and it comes out at 2.46mm across the edges of the threads.. it matters because this screw is perfectly threaded for the (metal gear) servo.. i think the screw is m2.5x10. What i should do is email associated and complain that they're sending out servo savers with screws far too short to go into a servo and see what they say. It's possible this is the right screw but i'm not willing to put any more pressure on my servo's output gear to find out - i already stabbed myself in the hand with a pozidrive (the worst kind) once, feels like the screw is too short it starts to thread then pops out.. even with some real force pressing the spring down.. i cant imagine saver springs need to be that tightly compressed.. the only reference i have is a car with the saver mech in the bellcranks (old lazer) and that spring isnt tensioned so much
7. As titled. I just got part ASC21326 Rc18 T2/B2 servo saver, but the screw is too short!! it's the fatter of the two machine screws it comes with (the middle one in the pic), not the self tapper, as i'm fitting to an MG servo.. wouldn't normally be asking this but the only screws ive got close to it are mini-t spares which are too small anyone know what size screw this is? i need one about 5mm longer
8. +1. I thought about this for a while.. if enough people contribute to this thread, we'll only have the good ones, and most of those that are in the UK but not in this thread we will then know to avoid. I happen to know that my LHS is of good repute and does good customer service on the internet but last time i went in there they were so rude i wanted to jump over the counter and beat them to death with a retail pack of CA glue... and i'm not an aggressive person. I'd like nothing better than to trash them all over the internet (and the shop i mentioned earlier who sent the stuff but ignored my emails) but they must have some happy customers or they wouldn't be around. Plus i wouldn't want to hurt the livelihood of any of the people who work in there who dont laugh at customers. There is too much negativity in this world. Let's praise the gems of the RC world so that people know where to buy from instead of just where not to buy from.
9. Just reading a thread about a shop people had problems with, and i was thinking it would be good to have a thread of local shops, eshops etc that we have had good experiences with. I think a negative thread is a bad idea because someone in a stress could really damage a shop over something that wasn't their fault - i nearly did with hobbypartz recently, when the issue was with USPS. This is a corollary to the super duper recession bargain busting thread i guess.. anyway, i'm sure i'll get told off and the topic closed if its not suitable, so i might as well start the ball rolling. I'm going to leave out the biggies like Modelsport and TheToyz, no need to reiterate these place's positive reputation. DMS Racing. Their site is a bit of a PITA, but i've spoken to them a number of times on the phone and cannot fault them a bit. I've also had contact with them on forums and they were very helpful on all occasions. Shops that know the products they sell are getting rarer across the board. The Border RC. They dealt with it simply and quickly when i messed up the payment method on my order. I put in bank transfer when i wanted paypal. Fired a quick email to them, they sorted it, i paid by paypal without cancelling the order. Was impressed with that when taking into account the speed of the email replies (within an hour, usually less). They communicated with me throughout my wait for the package, which was six days in total including the day i ordered it in the evening, and a weekend. That isn't bad at all considering it came internationally even if it was only The Netherlands. If people have others to post, where multiple purchases have gone well, or where the shop has given service above what one would consider normal good service, please do. We need a directory of good sellers.. it would have saved me an awful lot of heartache when i had to order stuff once before and although the stuff got here i was very unhappy with the seller (now, happily, defunct) and their customer service or rather lack thereof

12. We've had the what are you waiting to be delivered thread, and the what got delivered thread.. now we have a next order thread. This is NOT a wishlist this is bits you're going to order next pay day/etc i'll start'er off for losi mini-t pro: k-factory steering bearing kit alumn x2, 8x12x3.5 bearing for radio mod alumn servo retainer RC18 servo saver 3r ball end cups, losi foam things and more of those blasted e-clips losi shock plastic and seal set for mini-t pro, front and rear springs mini-t bodyshell turnigy nanotech 3s 1300ma 45-90c x2, 5 pairs xt-60s, heatshrink, 16awg cable, 2x3s lipo to 6s balance lead esky heading lock gyro .050 wrench, servo tape, blue threadlock, tyre banding tape and thin ca glue and at that point my t will be complete! har har lol
13. my lhs is part of the antics group and it's not very good. they laughed at me when i took a micro t in and they never have anything in stock bar paints. i buy from uk ebay sellers where i can, i'd buy a new r/c from modelsport, shop around for r ims and tyres, electronics i seem to be buying most from hobbypartz/hobbyking. bought a few bits from the USA on ebay. I can't afford to buy electronics at uk prices, especially lipos.. when UK stores have them that fit my stuff, which isnt often the 3s 1300ma nanotechs i'm using for my mini-t are 15 pounds here from ebay. about a tenner each shipped at HK.
14. they look very hyper-esque almost as if they're the same or at least have common parts? i'm really interested in the terrier/virus too

my new cars

schumacher fireblade man i remember when they first released that. loved the look of them... always kinda wanted one lol
16. range is excellent, but anyone with spektrum garbage in the vicinity is at risk from their radios not frequency hopping properly and being glitched by the GT3b. This is the fault of the spektrum radio system, not the Flysky, which is FCC certified. It's usually fixed by turning the spektrum off and on again anyway. expo doesnt work properly, the range of movement in the trims is not very big. Other than that it's a good radio for bashing. there are a few mods for the GT3b - it's a modifier's dream radio - one of which fixes the expo, adds functions, model memory etc. I will be putting a guide on MSUK in the next 2 months detailing the mods made to the radio. I think you'll be disappointed with it if you're used to top end spektrum/futaba/ko as the servo movement isnt quite as smooth as on other radios and modern top end stuff responds faster but the smoothness can be fixed with mods... if all you're bothered about is a cheapie radio for a not too insane off road basher and you're willing to tweak it just a little bit, the gt3b is unrivalled.
17. i'm scared to think how much i've spent on my mini-t pro - a 1/18th scale!! and it isn't even that hopped up.. seems like endless months of 60 quid here, 70 quid there and yet i really want a brushless hyper, nothing too mad just a fun basher. oh and a brushless nqd jet boat... and a basic brushless trainer plane.. and a new big watts charger & psu for it.. and new radio.. lots of lipos... telemetry... lol
18. SkyRC (imax) Toro Micro brushless combo & 7200kv 2 pole motor Tacon 2030 5200kv 2 pole motor Towerpro MG90 micro servo x2 FS-GR3C (gt3b) RX 2x motor heatsinks for the above lipo safe bag
19. will do sah. Can't wait till it gets here actually. they emailed me already to say they'd shipped it. hope it doesnt get picked on for customs charges lol and waiting with baited breath to see how long this priority shipping takes edit. not sure exactly what i can post reviewing the ESC - just that it can or cannot handle 3s on the tacon 2030 5200kv i guess as i dont really have any gear to do further testing.. i can give ease of setup reports it'll be the first time ive programmed an esc by beeps in years. I expect a lot of power in my mini-t pro on this setup lol. there's already a fairly big thread coming from this car build. I and a few others have developed a load of modifications for the Flysky GT3b (my radio for this car) and radios based on it... mine isn't finished yet but will be awesome, i think i found a servo saver for the MG90 servos too plus i plan to disassemble one of the two i bought to see if they need any mods that are doable
20. i just ordered the lot anyway. it's dirt cheap for what i'm getting - esc, 2 motors, servo, rx, lipo bag, 2 motor heatsinks for 70 pounds. further smiles as the 2 3s 1300 nanotechs, wire and 5 pairs xt60s are 22 pounds including shipping from hk and then all i need is a 2x3s jst-xh into 6s xh balance port splitter and i'm ready so it's a bit of a bargain considering in total that's about the cost of a mamba micro pro and motor from the usa anyway
21. nobody? nobody knows if its possible to get sensible shipping from hobbypartz?
22. did you ever go ahead and get one of those? i'm thinking about getting one, they seem ok looking at the videos on utube.. i would have ordered it already if hobbypartz website didnt want to charge $35 for priority mail
23. I'm trying to order a few bits from hobbypartz, they're the only people i can find stocking these bits at these prices, but the only option the site allows for shipping at checkout is USPS priority mail at $35. Not paying that i'm after a toro micro brushless combo (7200kv), t-pro mg90 servo, and a tacon 2030 5200kv motor. The price of these systems is so cheap its worth taking the punt - 27 quid for that lot vs 100 + import tax if i get stung for it just for a mamba micro pro and motor how does one get a sensible shipping cost from HP? feel like a noob asking this but i need these bits and im NOT paying 20 quid plus to ship them help! lol i really need to get my mini-t finished and realistically i cant afford the top system i want or justify putting such a system in a mini-t but i'm rcless at the moment, bored, getting annoyed at not having it finished

Headphones

are these in-ear earphones? they look like a pair of poundland earphones circa 1998, but all the cost went into the components.. i use Yuin PK3. awesome buds.
25. Aye the gyro i was looking at is a cheap heading lock gyro, an esky. Looking around for dual mode or yaw rate mode gyros YIKES expensive compared to the tenner of the esky. thanks for the info though dude i now understand something i didnt lol

we'll see.. there's only so much a tyre can do and all i'm looking for is something to bring me back into line when i've been a little overenthusiastic. I will get some sideways hold on the snow though. If not, i'll have to opt for a cheap dual mode which i've managed to find for 40 pounds (i dont have a pound sign on this keyboard lol)

we'll see how the cheap esky does - my car is pretty tail happy as it is so it'll probably be what i need - set to a low sensitivity i bet i can still get seriously sideways lol

I've been firing emails about trying to find a servo saver for the tower pro 9g servos, if i have luck, the wiring won't be a problem.. I can't afford the 53 quid of gargantuan overkill a premium hitec in a mini-t is anyway so this wiring question is merely of academic interest for now until i get my brushless hyper

edit: gah gah gah no savers for the towerpros. emailed another co
