Its a hyper SS with a different set of towers and springs but the rest is the same so parts are simple enough to get hold of No not painted the body yet. I have another idea in mind paint wise I've marked it out though all I need to do is finish designing the nerf bars to be a sung fit then I can crack on with the body The MGM is bolted down by via the 4 m2 mounting points on the heat sink to the plate its not going anywhere
  2. Team C have introduced a bearing tool for electric brushless motors. It is designed to help removing and installing the ball race that is pressed into the motor can without harming the bearing or the can. The tool is made from aluminium, it is of a lightweight design and comes orange anodised for looks and durability. Source: RedRC.net - Team C [teamcracing.net]
  3. New from Arrowmax comes the Increased Torque line of Honeycomb series tools. They combine the appearance of a standard hex driver with the torque of a T-handle tool by allowing to swing the tool tip by a total of 180 degrees. This helps to apply more torque to loosen even the most stubborn screws. The wrenches are available with 2.5mm and 3.0mm hex tip. Source: RedRC.net - Arrowmax [arrowmax-rc.com]
  4. Coming soon from Hobbywing is the Xerun XR8 Plus brushless speed controller for 1/8th scale applications. The 6S LiPo-compatible ESC offers a highly efficient heat dissipation system, a 15A BEC system with selectable 6V or 7.2V output and an advanced electronic switch with improved durability compared to standard mechanical switches. The controller is usable with sensorless brushless motors as well as Hobbywing
  5. Rule of thumb with lipos is: If your not happy with it dispose of them safely. (bucket of very salty water for a few days then you can dispose of them in general waste). Its not worth the risk for a cheap lipo compared to the collateral damage it could cause and more so the piece of mind.

Slight revision to the esc tray, I made the sides wider and less fugly, then added a section to push the power switch into: now on to the nerf bars

Cheers fella, I've made a bit more progress with it today and sorted mounting the ESC and relocating the Rx box ........ as normal nothing is simple as I have discovered I need to lengthen the servo lead. Piccys:
  9. I will try and make a showing I wont be there till around 1 though as I have to walk the dogs and its a good hours drive away ....... all for running the 5ive for 5-10 mins lmao.
  10. The alien setup is the cheapest option, but like all options they have quirks its just the point of mastering them. Noj is the best to ask about them as he runs one If you went MGM you would be looking at >
  11. I'd have to say 500-600Kv on 10-12s to be the best balance between power and runtime. A 525Kv motor on 12s for example will have just a bit more top end than a tuned petrol motor. I run the MGM edition 5ive and its nuts on 15s with a 875kv motor, but you pay for the extreme power with very short run times. One thing to bare in mind is the hidden cost of wheels and tyres. They are not cheap, look to spend well over

A picture update, more to follow. Both Trays mounted: Example layout:
  13. That's as real as the video of the egale snatching a baby lol
  14. I may well be interested fella, I will check out if they will fit and get back to you
  15. Yeah Im keeping my eyes open for bits and bobs on forums and ebay Yep hexes, mount straight on with no fuss Are they normal or strapped?
  16. An update about tyres ........... yes its a boring one im afraid but I wanted to share my recent experiences While the MCD wheel/tyre combo seems very nicely balanced it comes at no surprise they arent so good on Tarmac. Being spiked you tend to loose a bit of stability at full throttle and the 5ive kept getting in tank slappers around 70Mph. Once of which saw the car launch in the air sideways and landed boots down but caused some damage to the rim, which in turn lead to this: You can see where the rim has been ground away by tarmac So the next mission was to find some cheap wheels to fill the gap while I saved up for some Zero Expansion Hostile foams and Slicks ......... holy cow are 5th scale wheels and tyres expensive im looking at around

Oh god its really been a while since I updated this project. I finally have some free time to give this some proper attention most of the time is taken up designing and printing parts for test fitting which munches time like nothing else. It can take an entire day just to do a single lipo tray, but as ever the amount of work put in always pays off So the main push for me atm is to get the lipos mounted in place the solution I chose was to opt for a saddle arrangement. The added benefit is that I can double up the lipo trays to act as supports for nerf bars to brace the body. So Yesterday I set about sorting a design for a tray and optimised it for the Turnigy nano-tech 5000mAh 4s packs I have. I'm keen to get the trays sorted ASAP as once they are done I can do the nerf bars and then get the body lined up and then that can FINALLY get painted lol There are a few tricky bits atm like where to mount the MGM and Rx box but both of these aren't impossible tasks. The MGM in particular is a fiddly fit as with the extra cap bank fitted it makes it rather long. I have a plan to print a cradle for it in nylon and hang it off the front of the centre diff at present but like most things that idea may well change by the time i get around to it This is the r/h lipo tray V1 (it needs one hole slightly relocating, however for a V1 prototype it came out pretty much spot on. I'v designed it to fit the contour of the chassis and use any existing bolt holes that are existing so as you see it in the pic no holes have had to drilled to fit this tray which was one of my main goals to create parts that would simply "bolt on". The raised sections on the side have been designed to house m3 nylocks for mounting the nerf bars too, which will simply be ovals as they can absorb forces without over stressing the material. I'm hoping to get most of the parts designed and printed by the end of the week, so fingers crossed the update will be very soon as I'm getting excited about being able to run this soon
  18. The 5ive is a tough act to follow, hats off to the people that manage to make something to properly rival it that wont cost the moon for a roller lol
  19. Wheelbase looks too short to look like a proper SC to me. It would look far better if they just made it look like a rail/dune buggy
  20. Looks like an awesome spot, I need to pull my finger out and get the 5ive down
  21. I was going to go up to Nene today to test the Brushless 5ive on track but the forcast is crap and I CBA to drive 4hrs to end up not being able to run the car ..... I need to find somewhere local lol

hahahaha you have to be kidding, The Lehner destroys batteries I get 7 mins hard driving per 4000mAh of capasity. But thats what you get when you run a 875Kv motor. There is no doubt racing requires a far lower kv Id say something around 520KV ish would be perfect, and the run times you have show thats the way to go for decent runtime.

Jesus! That is power hungry! Hardly worth starting her up!

Low kV seems to be the better route, top end drops off of course, still a good bashing speed, bags of torque and worth charging packs for ;)

    4. -BEZ-

      -BEZ-

Yeah its power hungry but a total monster and such a hoot to drive.

Yeah I plan to get some bigger packs and a lower kv motor at some point soon when funds permit.

  22. Kind of normal for a cheap lipo. I have a couple of Turnigy packs were one cell goes .5V out of balance at low voltages. Just raise the cutoff a bit on the ESC. Its just the curse of cheap/badly matched lipos im afraid. In contrast I have some older kokam cells and even after a year they are still 0.02 accurate between the cells even on a 6s pack.
  23. Not sure, Im only going to take the 5ive up for a few laps on test day and to do a bit of testing to find a workable rpm. The motor in the 5ive atm is far too amp hungry to do any racing at present but until I bench mark it I don't know what it needs
  24. The reality is you pay more for parts that aren't mass produced. If someone has taken dozen of hours matching parts to an engine its going to cost. Not to mention if they are machining their own parts commercial CNCs are stupidly expensive also tooling is stupidly expensive and then there are rates etc to be considered. Yeah it migh be considered a bit of a rip off but I doubt there are huge margins involved to be fair.
