  1. Dying my e revo chassi black and its gone a sort of burnt brown colour.Any ideas why?(i didnt boil it on the gas so it isnt burnt)

The water doesn't need to be on the boil when you dye the chassis. As long as the water is boiling hot by the time you put the chassis in. A grey E-revo chassis should be black in the time it takes the water to cool.

Everytime ive dyed traxxas plastics I do two tubs of boiling water leave the parts in one on a soak then prepare the dye bucket then transfer the parts in to it.

The idea was it would soften the plastic up to allow the dye to take better and everytime my parts was pure black within 10 mins I thought of it like our skin in soak it opens up lol sounds strange but I swear 10 min and its pure black. I like it though when it has a sort of metalic shine to it too almost a faint bronze. Or if...

      RCbutcher

My merv was pretty scuffed up before dye but after it looked new.

Some people say ritt dye ruins the plastics but I dont think that's true for traxxas . Hpi or rpm plastic. But ive heard of some plastics shriveling up in the hot dye.

Ive also reheated dye and reused it with the same results

  3. I just opened up my savage xl gearbox and the gears are greesed.Rather than dismantling the whole 3 speed could i give it a good spray with brake cleaner?

      martin34

I think its because the 2nd gear has some sort of slipper and if grease gets on it it will mess up the gearchange and if any grit gets in the gearbox it will stick to the gears and grind them down

    3. martin34

      martin34

So Nitroholic can I get the grease off and out of the 3 speed without stripping all the gears down?

    4. Nitroholic

      Nitroholic

Nope. Only way to get the grease out is to strip the gearbox...and that means taking one chassis side off

aye for the most safest you cannot go wrong with Nihm or nicad. but they do not produce that kick like a lithium product can.

you find a lot of the scaler-crawler guys like to run nimh's because of the weight they carry. and a lipo just adds more power where its not really wanted.

    4. martin34

      martin34

The 900mah NiMH is going in my sons mini as I don't want him messing with lipos.Wells he's only 3 so I won't let him charge the NiMH either

  12. is it ok to back white with red?I know you are ment to do the darker colour first but the way i want to spray my shell the white will need to go on 1st

    2. martin34

      martin34

Thanks I see what you mean but the flames will be prity small so they will be hard to mask around.I am now thinking I should do the shell red with white flames. That will be alot easier

    3. Thunderwolf

      Thunderwolf

you can do it, aslong as the white is sprayed thick enough it shouldn't make a difference

    4. Tamiyacowboy

      Tamiyacowboy

mask off the areas to be white, shoot more coats of the red so say 5-7 coats thinly. once fully dry, remove mask and spray the rest white, the thicker red coat will help stop pinking and give that lush red on the can, its more consuming with time doing it this way, you will struggle to blend the flame coloring to the white shell

Wouldnt the oven cleaner eat the plastic? Ive been reading up on deanodizing and it says if done too long it can eat away the alloy so prob could the plastic too.

Best way ive removed chrome off wheels is use them lol it soon falls off but not properly so that's no help.

    3. Oh How Original

      Oh How Original

It's more down to whoever wants to buy it, rather than the truck itself, it's the same with anything, you see mega hopped up Bajas fetching peanuts, then a stock ones goes up and people go crazy for it at the same sort of money.

Silly really, but it's good for bargains.

    4. sean-vrs

      sean-vrs

It's also down to the buyer I would rather buy a clean little used standard model than a "hopped up" one.

As its going on a nitro I don't need any special backing paint?

    3. Nitroholic

      Nitroholic

Acrlic car paint works well enough. You can use 'prope' backing paint....but yo don't have to. Acrylic car paints won;t stick to Lexan...so use proper polcarb sprays for your paintjob...but acrylicx will stick to the polycarb paint layer OK. I use Halfords white primer as a backing :)

    4. martin34

      martin34

Thanks again guys.So I will get a Tamiya yellow and use normal white spray for backing
