  1. Its been a little while since my last update so thought I'd pop back here and upload some progress pics.

This build is very much a slow burn and it'll take as long as it takes, which I'm fine with 🙂

I've recently bought a few more essential bits..

I always wanted a Spektrum transmitter and really liked the look of this one.

The one handed control option, impact protection, and water resistance definitely made me want this.

I needed a charger as well

I think this one is pretty decent?

Got myself some batteries from Amazon as well. Hopefully they're not too terrible..

They came with Deans connectors which I don't think is ideal, especially as the esc is fitted with xt90 connectors.

I've bought some bits that need soldering up

    20240214_215224.thumb.jpg.dac1046310b31cc15ec67c6aa5f4d036.jpg

Its been a few years since I've done any soldering and yessss I know that I could have purchased pre-made connectors which would've been cheaper and easier but I wanted to do it this way lol

I'll be doing a bit of practice soldering first but that'll happen once I've decided what solder to  buy/use

I've got a couple of other bits and have done a little bit more on the truggy too but I'll post those up this evening if I get the chance.

Its getting there slowly 🙂 🙂

    Cheers 🙂

  2. Build update

Its been awhile since I last updated the build so thought I'd give it a little update this evening 🙂

When I was preparing to drill out some holes in the chassis for the battery tray and the motor mount I realised both diffs were leaking

    20230927_221656.thumb.jpg.abb9aa9001ee75b3083f1dbe1ca3bb5c.jpg

    20230906_195211.thumb.jpg.11a6af57d7254c4344db639af2f18938.jpg

I stripped back the diffs from their housings and sorted them out - I'm pretty sure I'd already done this once before.. maybe twice before..

In between sorting the diffs out and drilling out the chassis I also picked up some big bore shocks from ebay.

I decided to give them a clean up as it was a great way of putting off drilling the chassis whilst still doing some valid rc stuff

    20231002_182719.thumb.jpg.de6cf95539926576330ccbdef59c22ef.jpg

The shock oil definitely needed changing

I used this for drilling the chassis

Next time I do any drilling like this, I'm definitely buying a drill press.

I had the dremel already (which I love) and saw that you could get the drill press accessory.

Thought it was a cool idea at the time but it was mostly just annoying to use lol.

    20231206_182349.thumb.jpg.1a687193b91f24fa90bd2b4eed2ce9cc.jpg

I've drilled a little bit more since then and fitted the motor mount and battery tray

    20231206_195629.thumb.jpg.81253dd95c181497c28cf58649ca3c58.jpg

I may drill one more hole to secure the battery tray but I'm still on the fence with that one..

  3. Stripped the rear diff completely, cleaned it all out and refilled it.

Hopefully this time I've done it correctly.

I'll see how it goes this evening - fingers crossed  it doesn't drain out everywhere..

If I'm still having issues then I'll get some new rubber seals etc and try, try, try again..

I still haven't touched the leaking front diff yet...

  4. Both diffs are brand new and were put together by me so its definitely user error lol..

I put the rear diff up ended, screws side up before heading off to work this morning. Came back to find a little bead of oil on one of the screws.

It must be over filled if the oil is being pushed upwards because gravity doesn't work like that does it? 🤔🤨🤨

  5. Heya everyone, hope you're all well 🙂

I'm still very slowly building my Hyper ST Pro kit and noticed that the front and rear diffs are leaking. I only realised they were leaking because I was stripping everything off the chassis.. 🙄😒

How much diff oil needs to go in to the diffs and how much is too much?

Bit puzzled over this one as its been quite awhile since I did any diff building and filling..

Any advice as always is very appreciated

    Thanks 🙂

  6. Good morning to any and all that are reading this 🙂

its been a little while since I last updated this thread so thought I'd post some pics of where I'm up to

I didn't want to cut the graphite (?)  radiotray that comes with the pro kit sonI got the rtr version

    20230720_165747.thumb.jpg.705d85607ee3e801484d1aaaa5d94672.jpg

I cut it to the shape I wanted

    20230720_180250.thumb.jpg.de93cf98557f61fefcd844ec6f70723d.jpg

    Then sprayed it black

    20230726_203344.thumb.jpg.f3abaa4101d2a7404980bd5ff49ca78e.jpg

Did a quick mock up of what the servo and motor mount will look like once they're installed properly

The servo is a savox 1256 and the motor mount is from a Hyper SS or Cage (I think)

    20230726_204333.thumb.jpg.61393f2b65ec2613ff74bd5b79f1d92f.jpg

I've also made up the shocks but I think I'll be swapping them out for some nice big bore ones at a later date

This evening I'll be going over what I've already built and putting threadlock where needed

    And lastly...

My motor and esc have arrived 🙂 🙂

    20230807_080452.thumb.jpg.ffa107608aa1f747ed581f69399c3de6.jpg

Its all slowly getting there 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Have you decided on esc/motor combo yet ?

Im using the Hobbywing  max 8 esc with a 2200 kv motor on a 15 or 16 tooth pinion (pretty sure its the 16) and it goes well. It also runs fairly cool :good:

Tbh I'm not sure what brushless system I'll be using.

The one I had years ago was 4282 leopard motor 2000kv and a Hobbywing 150a esc

I'll start having a proper look around as all of sudden I seem to be a lot closer to needing one than I was like a week ago lol

Budget wise I'm also not sure, PayPal's pay-in-three has made things a lot more /affordable manageable when it comes to better quality/more expensive items.

It doesn't mean I'm going to spend a small fortune but it does mean that I probably will 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

i've used old style, not MX38, 3.8 Badlands which arent too big for a 3.8 and also Backflip LP 4S on my truggies. Backflips are good value compared to MX38 Badlands.  value https://www.applianceelectronics.co.uk/viewproduct/18292/backflip-lp-4s-tire-38-glued-black-2

    https://www.applianceelectronics.co.uk/viewproduct/31847/18-badlands-fr-38-mt-tires-mounted-17mm-blk-raid-2

    Those backflip tyres look nice

I've never even heard of Applianceelectronics before, are they a reputable store?

  9. I'm currently building a Hyper ST kit and am thinking about getting different tyres for it as I'm not a fan of the stock ones

If I wanted to get some Proline Badlands or a similar design, what size do I need to get?

Pretty sure 3.8 are for MT's which will be way too big is it 2.8 I need or is that for 1/8 buggies?

    Advice appreciated

    Thanks

  10. Stuff I did today....

Firstly realised that I'd overfilled the diff

    20230709_124503.thumb.jpg.c343b694c34dcf4d4aa22f4d807768f4.jpg

I'm now going to get the front diff out to make sure that isn't overfilled either 🤦🏻‍♂️🤬🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Used a drill to help tap the threads for the turnbuckles

    20230709_102549.thumb.jpg.a566c405b7d7b0ce6b53a1d897221d9d.jpg

    That made life easier

Then started work on the back end

    20230709_182640.thumb.jpg.47981ee096a10a07a8f40407729bddde.jpg

And finally, the centre diff and chassis braces

    20230709_184209.thumb.jpg.051e651c631b08d25dc5c417b75e85ff.jpg

There is one mod that I'm going to sort out as soon as I can

    20230709_193741.thumb.jpg.b34d4d345b91571727295c097b628ba5.jpg

I'll be ditching the e-clip and replacing it with a nut and bolt

I'm really happy with what I've gotten done today 🙂 🙂

  11. I put the front diff case together last night but totally ballsed up a shim that sits next to a bearing on the diff.

Not sure how important it is as its not even included in the instructions for the rtr Hyper ST..

Its in the exploded diagram that was included with the instructions and its also in the Pro instructions

    20230704_073738.thumb.jpg.da0c6a1f5c17b555e6bb3826cc0972fe.jpg20230704_073132.thumb.jpg.6c87f74d24f835b0cc8813e4f5f48158.jpg20230704_074218.thumb.jpg.55503fc56a0262238f3fe368f4fe2017.jpg

It got all bent up whilst trying to fit it into the diff case I ended up using some metal snips to cut it out as it was easier than taking the diff apart. It was knackered anyway so... 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

There was also a small countersunk screw that was missing, bodged it in place with different one from the bag of various screws. Should be fine... 🤔

    Its getting there slowly 🙂
