  1. Okay, did the hsn - screwed in then out 4 turns. lsn looks to be just out from flush. The idle however is a bit different to do. do I have the rx and tx on or off? i'm screwing it in then out and cant seem to see a difference. what am I doing wrong. doesnt help that i'm watching donnie darko too. getting distracted lol
  2. how do I set it back to its factory settings from where it is now? Do I do it just as you've said? There wasnt any information about what its factory settings were in the manual. big thumbs down for ansmann there. actually the manual is totally rubbish 2 BIG THUMBS DOWN for ansmann
  3. I need some help (again) My Kryptonite had to be sent back recently because the throttle kept sticking at full rev. A guy at the model shop said it was knackered. It got sent back and was fixed. Apperently i took less than a minute to fix. The idle screw had been undone so much that when the carb slid open it wouldnt go back. I havent messed around with it enough to do that as I dont wanna break it. So I got it back. Tried it out and... Everything was wrong. the settings on the tx were set to brake loads. The engine was revving way to high but the wheels wouldnt turn. set the tx back to neutral but the engine revved way to much. I think they've changed the idle settings or something. The engine was well hot after only a short time. knew thats bad for the engine so turned it off. Gonna take it to my lhs as i dont know enough yet. any ideas what it might be? I've got an Ansmann Kryptonite (rtr version) If more information is needed i'll try to describe as best I can Any help would be great Thanks
  4. Okay I will def try that, the only thing that worries me is that when I took to the model shop, the guy pulled the throttle slider outwards as in WOT and it came out completly, then was jammed when he went to push it back in. is this normal or should there be something to stop it from being pulled all the way out like as stopper or screw or summit?? He was pretty sure i'd need a new carb as that shouldnt happen. its from a AR.28 force engine from the Ansmann Kryptonite. I've left a message with the seller saying something is wrong with the carb, but if its a case of lubing it up then thats brilliant news!! maz
  5. CAN YOU BELEIVE THIS??!!! On my 5th/6th tank on my break in today, able to go a bit faster... all going good an well... then the car totally goes nuts! full rev's and flips out big time. turns out theres summit wrong with the carb slider - it gets totally stuck. Dunno how difficult its gonna be to replace. only had the truggy for a week or two Got it from ebay - online store, power seller. hopefully can get it sorted. I HAVENT EVEN HAD A PROPER PLAY WITH IT!!!!!!
  6. I've been looking at some of the different ways of breaking an engine in. As I have no experience with nitro i'm erring on the side of caution and sticking with my 10(ish) tank gentle break in. when i've got more experience i'll go for a more hands on no BS approach to breaking an engine in. I'm a nitro virgin lol whats the best batteries for a transmitter then? i'm gonna get a decent hump pack for my receiver soon so I try to get them both at the same time. Night all MAZ
  7. what rx battery packs do you guys use in your cars? and can I use normal rechargeable batteries in the transmitter or can I get tx packs that fit in my ansmann transmitter?
  8. Well, i'm now on my 4th or 5th tank (too hot can't remember) going well so far. blueish tinted exhaust so I know its rich. upped the throttle to get it to idle when first starting up - that works well. Got a question that might be obvious but... when putting on the brakes the engine stalls and stops completely. Is this normal? and once the engine is broken in and then tuned it'll just brake and then idle rather than stopping? didnt realise how boring it was doing slow figure of 8's for ages and ages
  9. When i've finished for the day, do I take the glowplug out or doesnt it matter?
  10. Quick update - got it on its 3 tank now, slightly upped the throttle trim, to keep it going as suggested. revving a bit high I think, but to be honest I havent got anything to compare it to so i'll just keep going for this tank and then carry on tomorrow.
  11. is the other method called heat cycling? I'm not sure how it works, is it easy to do?
  12. I'm gonna have to stick with the MT fuel till its gone, just spent 20 quid on it. As for the hot glowplug - the guys at my lhs seemed to think it was okay. could there be a problem with it then due to the heat we're having? I'm planning on doing about 10 tanks for the break in - 2/3 tanks off the ground then slowly from 4-10 building speed. how does that sound?
  13. I really appreciate all the advice thats been given so far, its been really helpful and has made me realise i've got loads to learn about nitro engines. Can you believe this, i've got 2 blood blisters and a friction burn on my fingers from using the pull start... mental... I work with lawnmowers, strimmers, blowers, hedgecutters, saws, spades, shovels etc etc ...and havent had blisters for years. ahem, well, except from today (was working on the allotment that hasnt been touched in 6 years) I wanted to add one more thing, I said about it in my first post but it didnt get picked up on. When trying to get the engine going there was brownish coloured fuel coming out of the exhaust - is this just another indicator of it being set way to rich? I'm also using 20% race prep fuel from model technics and OS LC3 HOT glow plugs. The guys at my LHS said that was fine to use, does it sound right? Cheers everyone Maz
  14. Thanks everyone Anyway, how come you lot are in when its a fantastic day out there??? lol
  15. i'm just prinitng out the flowchart now so I can have a look while drinking an evily strong cup of coffee. Thought I had to let it sit there for a couple of tanks when first breaking it in letting the engine tick over till its nearly outta fuel then refill it and carry on
  16. But i'm still just trying to break it in, if I start mesing with other settings couldnt it do some damage the engine? I mean its meant to be rich when breaking in yeah?
  17. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and a big OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still not going right - took the car down to where my allotment is, more open n deserted (so as not to annoy the family and neighbours on a sunday) Still no luck with the the truggy at all. Finally manged to get the engine started but the longest it would tick over for was about 30 - 40 seconds. my fingers are killing me from using the pull start over and over an over... Got REALLY annoyed and had to stop - either that or smash the truggy to pieces. Its hot out there and I was in the full sun, my patience was minimal to say the least. so, took it back home. thought i'd give it one more try - same again, lasted 30 - 40 seconds. I'm feeling livid right now. tried adjusting the idle screw as advised. not much difference. Anything else I can try before admitting defeat and taking it to my LHS? I'm mostly gutted as I thought I wouldnt have a that much of a problem doing this. I cant believe how insanely angry a person could get trying to hold a rc car whilst using the pull cord MAZ
  18. Hello, Thought i'd ask a couple of really obvious questions as i'm totally new to Nitro and need a loads of help and advice. I've got a few electric rc's and my favorite runs on 14.4v - goes through my batteries way to fast. Wanted longer runtimes etc so decided to give Nitro a try - got hold of an Ansmann Kryptonite RTR, wanted to get it in kit form but found one that was new for almost half the price. I've got absolutely no experience with Nitro engines at all so i'm worried i'm going to destroy my engine before I get to have a proper go at it!! i've been reading up on breaking Nitro engines in, seemed okay in theory. When it actually comes to doing it, man, its doing my head in a bit I've only gone through one tank and had to call it a day - too noisy in the garden - it was annoying EVERYONE. gonna have to find somewhere a bit more open or isolated or both before carrying on. Firstly, it took awhile to get the engine going, thought something was wrong with it to begin with. Once I got it going it just kept stopping LOADS. I take it thats normal? Finally got it through one tank and like I said had to call it a day. Could someone please give me a breakdown on what the different screws are that make fine tune adjustments on an engine? Its a Force .28 i'll try do describe where all the screws are (mostly for my own benefit I think) If your looking at the truggy side on, front wheels to your left and rear wheels to your right - You can see a brass coloured screw poking upwards in a kinda northwestly way. Beneath it at about 8 o'clock theres another screw. turn the car around so front wheels right and left wheels left, theres another screw which is part of the throttle. the guy said I could adjust the screw thats at 8 o'clock if it was reving too high - I tried turning it, didnt seem to make much difference. was I turning it enough - didnt wanna do to much just in case... also when i finished running the engine i managed to spill some spent fuel that was sitting in the exhaust it was quite browny looking - is that normal? Any help/advice would be well appreciated. Cheers. Maz
  19. Its only recently that i've decided to go into Nitro and since i'm going to be saving for awhile before I can buy a Truck or Truggy it gives me time to do research. A buggy is not what I want. I want justa bit more ground clearance. A truggy seems like a good combination and should suit me fine. The Ansmann Kryptonite looks okay but either its too new or their just arnt any reviews for it anywhere. I'm pretty sure spares and hop ups wont be a problem either. The only thing that i've seen is that the Kryptonite is better than the terrier and whatever came before it - was it bad design...bad quality parts?? proabably both. I've got awhile to wait so i've got plenty of time to chose. unless I decide to go 2nd hand - which presents other problems. I really dont want to end up with a junker. Is there a Nitro faq or summit on all the different parts of an engine? whats a clutchbell for example??? did I even get that right lol. seriously... i've got loads to learn!!
  20. Hi everyone, new to the Modelsport forum and am looking for some advice... I'm saving up (gradually) enough money to buy a Nitro truck or truggy i've got a couple of 1/10 electric Trucks (just used for bashing) and I feel like something different. I've seen the Ansmann Kryptonite and wanted to get some opinions of it - is it any good? I cant find any reviews of it which is a bit annoying. I kinda like the idea of getting it in kit form so I can learn about it as i'm building it - rather that buying it ready to run. Although it'll be more expensive to get it up and running. Having never owned a Nitro rc before is there anything I need to know? Any help or advice would be great. Thanks
