perruzo
Right then after much ado i have finally done the Baja lights guide.... EDIT: i now have DIY light pod kits and also fully fitted pods available for sale - various colour & power options - PM me for details & prices or if you wish to discuss custom options. First some LED info, the anode (+) is the longer leg on the rounded side of the LED and the cathode is the short leg on the flat side of the LED..... Put a pair of LED's into the first two holes Bend the legs over and solder to form your first pair. As we are running the lights off 6V, you need to wire all LED's in pairs to save having to install resistors. So this pair is connected first LED's neg(-) to second LED's pos(+) Now do this again another three times to give your first four pairs Now bend the legs of the LED's over to join all the positives of the pairs together and the same for the negative side. This gives you a positive rail and a negative rail. Solder them up but dont trim the last leg just yet as there are still two more pairs to connect. Put in the last two pairs wired together as before These last two pairs can now be connected to the pos & neg rails, two legs will be straightforward but the other two legs will need to be insulated to prevent a short where they cross the rails Slip the insul onto the legs, bend them over, trim, then solder onto the relevant rail Drill a hole through the side of the pod, preferably hidden in the mould hole at the back Slip some two core wire through the hole just drilled and then solder them onto the pos & neg rails. You can now re-assemble your pod Last of all you need to decide what power source, i run mine off the main battery by connecting the wiring from the pods to a tamiya connector which simply plugs into the charging port on the top of the receiver box. But you could use a seperate hump pack concealed as you wish. I assume by this stage that you can wire a tamiya connector on or a deans or whatever. You may also want to put a switch in the circuit but i just plug/unplug as required. Well that my first ever guide, let me know what you think. perruzo Edited August 5, 2009 by perruzo

Bright? if you look directly into the pod you will be seeing funny colours for a couple of minutes. Obviously the white pods are brighter at 13000mcd, the blue as Paul says are only 5000mcd (millicandela). In the flesh they are very bright but its hard to get a good pic. The third & second last pics show the light best. One is looking into the pod in a dark room, the other is looking from above in an already lit room. (note the pod is just on the chair - not fixed to the baja). I can take some pics later if you wish with the pods shining onto a wall in a dark room then you can really see how bright they are. paul2304
still waiting for my Led's to arrive , 50 blue 5000mcd and 50 white 13000mcd
perruzo
They are easier to solder up for 9V operation but i have doubts about battery life as the two pods together draw 480mAH, most 9v are around 350mAH so you will get less than 45mins per battery but i'm gonna do a test with some cheapy batts to see for real how long they last. Matt B
They look really good, might have to make myself a lighting circuit for the Revo as a little project.
Topper
Do you need resistors or anything to run off a 9v battery ? Wouldnt mind wiring up to an external battery so i dont kill the main one.
paul2304
i think you would just need to wire them in groups of 3 to run off a 9v supply topper
Topper
Hmm that could get messy
paul2304
how so ? the way the guide is done you have 6 sets of 2 wired together , cant see 4 sets of 3 being much harder to do lol
Topper
May looky into that then I suppose it aint too bad
