mydoddy69
These are pretty much the same thing as the ion range just with a cheap brushless combo in http://www.modelsport.co.uk/maverick-ion-xt-1-18-rtr-electric-truggy/rc-car-products/367885
Gazlam
I quite like that, looks to be spot on. I was thinking of a Tamiya Midnight pumpkin for my son, but may consider this little beast for Christmas. I have no experience with HSP but In my humble opinion I think all cars can break with a little bit of bad luck. I've had some major smashes with my cars and nothing broke. I had some tiny crashes and lots broke, and then people would say... "Well that car is ****" So personally I'd buy anything I fancy regardless of what anyone says
Tiernan85
Bought the brushed buggy version for my nephew about a year ago. Upgraded it right away to brushless. I can honestly say for the most part it's great. The only things he's broke are steering hub and one diff. He's young and most that was from a hard crash. It's just as durable as any normal rtr traxxas or hpi I've had. The only real disappointment was how sloppy the steering mechanism is. Deafty
Great an Owner Interesting. U using lipo then? what packs are you running and can u provide me the bat tray size. any pics under the hood would be great Edited October 18, 2014 by Deafty
Tiernan85
I'm using the hobbyking 2s 2200mah that are specific for the mini revo as they are smaller. They are the best fit as they are smaller than the standard 2200 batts so it's likely the longest runtime you'll get. I don't think I'd run 3s at all. I can likely get specific dimensions but will have to wait till I'm at my brothers again. Here's a couple pics I had on my phone. I can get more again next time I see them. Deafty
Thanks,. next question wheel hex's and sizes, (12mm) . What do they use and what rim+ tyres can be used?
Tiernan85
That's the real pain in the a$$ part. Wheel hexes are 7mm if my memory serves me correctly. I have not found any parts to change to something more common. This effectively leaves you stuck with their tire/wheel options(which are slim pickings). A good thing is the stock tire compound is actually really impressive. I did manage to fit a set of Tamiya robot tires onto a set of stock wheels as shown in the pics. Parts are expensive locally but I have a few links at home for direct replacement parts/spares and some upgrades at home. They are from Hong Kong but they arrive promptly and are dirt cheap compared to uk prices.
Deafty
Great info thanks,. I'll be looking into hex's now. what size are the axles, 4mm?. might be able to fit some 12mm hex's,. like these this link might be of use to you Edited October 18, 2014 by Deafty
Tiernan85
Here's parts at a fraction of those prices. Shipping is reasonable toohttp://www.helipal.com/rc-car-spare-parts_1-18-truggy.html?osCsid=gg6e36fvljv2dckg2l10chf056
Tiernan85
I don't recall the size of hand. But I'm pretty sure they are 3mm axles. The pin on them is tiny. Actually I know they are m3 wheel nuts. Edited October 18, 2014 by Tiernan85
Deafty
sounds like 4mm axles then
Tiernan85
Could be yea. You'll need to drill them out to fit those hex pins though. The wheels are quite small too, possibly bigger on the truggy. Definitely smaller then the standard 26mm touring wheels/tires.
Deafty
Yeah I'm looking at the truggy for my next door neighbors kid. Might just get one have a wee looksy and return if not happy (100% entitled to do that here in Germany). Just need to do more research on the plastics quality (which I'm struggling with)
Tiernan85
Plastics seem good to be fair. Softer like rpm(maybe more soft) so they have a good bit of flex for the cartwheels etc.
Tamiyacowboy
i have heard, BUT not seen with my own eyes !!! i having not see the chassis bare and devoid of diff cover top plate servo clamp etc etc, and motor and everything not fitted, BUT the helion animus is basicly a knocked of RC18t - RC18B. and these others are copylikes of copys. i wouldnt put it past them all being very much alike part wise to an RC18t-b now helion did say ( they are chinese made) possible upgrade may become on the market (chinese do not say yes ok) now the problem that lays with these rc18 copys are thus front and rear diffs THEY WILL NOT TAKE BRUSHLESS !!! full stop. the rc18 was pushed hard by mamba 8000kv's and ate diffs and spurs very quick. but they ran a better diff, these copys likes run dual planet gearing in the diffs, they are ALL plastic !! Helion mentioned they may release a 4 planet diff but in plastic. here is my take, one of these can be beefed to rc18 standards. turnbuckles added, better shock system and oil balancing. aftermarket center drive prop alloy/carbon prop, better still measure up an RC18 center drive prop. add a RC18t/b main spur and swap out the diffs to RC18 standard diff inners ( these will take brushless to 5200kv -6800kv(racing) its a lot of work , and to be honest you may be better off grabbing an RC18t-b and then upgrading to RC18B2 parts where possible. problem is these things tend to be imports from shenzen and/or the likes, trying to get spares is a 14 day shipping wait and the two weeks for the hobby store to order them in. or its the risky customs dodge and china website hunting. have had the chance to grab one of these copylikes for a week now, the helion animus brushed version , but have held off to see what the old RC18B's sell for. personally for me the worry is that finding parts problem that comes up after the fad dies. Tiernan85
I've got brushless on the one here for the last year. No spurs at all. One diff recently. That's it. Oh, a couple steering hubs, but that's from proper crashes. Real world experience too, not just speculation.
Tiernan85
The battery I currently have in there has the following dimensions. 87 x 19 x 34mm As shown below you could probably fit another 10mm in length as I have a piece of foam making up the extra room. But these batts work really well and last a good while.
Deafty
thanks Tam,. Thanks for ya lipo spec,. I actually have a bunch of em @ Tiernan I presume u mean those are your only breakages replacements? You upgraded to brushless are you running lipo? and are your gears plastic or metal? cheers
Tiernan85
Yep those were my only breakages. I am running 2s lipo with the 5050kv track star brushless system. All stock gears still which are plastic.
