Rc transponder for racing

Been looking for months now I don't race much but when I do using a hand out or borrowing one is a pain and some thing I shouldn't be worring about should just have one fitted that's mine and no need to worry

I'm not interested in getting any clone transponder from what I've heard compatiblity just with mylaps is a pain never mind throwing a clone one in there

but what to get is the problem been adviced to get the mylaps rc2 with 2 wires but there like hens theeth can only find the rc4 and looks like most clubs are using older timing gear that the rc4 is not compatible with

I really want to get one sorted so I can get some races in this year if I can't find one then I'm just not going to bother its as if rc racing is a very tight lipped sport and every things a secret unless you've been doing it 40 years

Thanks kev

The so called clone (MRT) is actually perfectly good. The original isn't compatible with RC4 but most clubs don't use it yet (and see no reason to upgrade to it) but the latest model works fine with RC4.

As a race controller I can see transponder signal strengths on my screen, and deal with poor counts. Placement is the key and no one clear model has an advantage in terms of signal power. Certainly MRT's are no more or less reliable. As for the 'cloned' number - my database has over 1300 drivers on it but there are no transponder clashes noted in there. Even if there was, MRT's have 20 more numbers to choose from.

In case you haven't guess already I run an MRT myself, mostly on principle. I've seen the prices for Mylaps timing gear and you'd better believe those guys specialise in price gouging. I might have to use their decoder at the club but I'm not giving them another penny of my own money hence MRT. Plus it's cheaper and smaller and more discreet.
