Deviousmonkey
Anyone fancy meeting up at Yeadon Tarn to run their boat? I go up there every week if I can to have an hour or so run. Anyone who'd like to join me, let me know, you'd be more than welcome and it would be good to have another boat up there to race. I run a brushless 32" pursuit deep vee. Cheers Edited July 21, 2011 by Deviousmonkey
moorlander
leeds council will not permit the use of;- nitro / petrol / fast electric.....and you will no doubt get a visit from a member of the resident radio control boat club to check your frequencies ( tell them to sod off and mind their own business).....even though they are not using it at the time !!.............and a visit by the council warden on his motorcycle........apprently people have complained about the noise which is a bit of a **** take when you cant hear yourself speaking for the noise of a 737 at full tilt on take off !! I have approached leeds city council with regards to running an organised club...NO JOY !! The resident club ( bradford model boat club - who operate yachts and scale electric - have the monopoly on yeadon tarn ) I was even threatened with legal action and all I was doing was letting my cat' tick over to run its engines in .........not as noisy as the outboard being used by the sailing club and I was also using bio de-gradeable oils too !! would suggest finding somewhere else...........if you can. Deviousmonkey
FUN POLICE!!! dont you just love em!!! Ive never had a problem up there whatsoever been there nearly every week since last January. The people I come across all seem friendly and happy to be there with a fast electric? According to the waterways guidelines for leeds, Yeadon is the one and only place you can actually run an RC boat. I always keep a copy with me to challenge any nosey ****as who think they know best! To be honest it's getting harder and harder to enjoy boats and cars now. What the hell are you supposed to do??? Just while I remember, a mate an I were up at Roundhay park in Feb/March time, an old geezer walked past and commented on how noisey they were! Being grown ups, we decided not to throw him in to see how cold it was and carried on regardless. Bearing in mind it was bloody cold and we saw 2 people all morning, him being one of them. Anyway, went back to the car and a Leeds City Council car pulls up, here we go. Anyway he asked if the boats were electric which they were, we asked if we were ok to be there and he said yes, so I reckon it may be ok up there if thats an option? Nito/petrol, not sure but as we use the bottom end of the lake away from the main area you may be ok there as an option? Sandmaster Ben
Speaking of Yeadon Tarn and its bike track, I had a visit from 2 bobbies on motorcross bikes this morning at my house to ask if id been running my RC car up at the bike track. I said yeh about a month ago and I 2 coppers came and spoke to me then and said technically you can't use the bike track and someones complained about the noise. They live about 100 yards from the end of the LBIA runway so these people must have a specific annoyance to rc car/boat engines. Tossers! Anyway the bobbies just said it broke a bylaw with a possible £1000, they were sound and even suggested other places I could use it. They even stated that its silly that you cant use them there as hardly any kids even use the track and the amount of money it cost to build was obscene. The council sometimes must have their heads up there arses. I emailed the council the other week about possibly being able to use the track for one day a week and there response was: "Thank you for your email about the BMX track at Yeadon tarn The Area Officer for Yeadon has informed me that "The BMX Track is for the use of bikes only. We have had one or two near misses with motorised cars on the track nearly causing accidents and bringing bike users off their bike whilst cycling around the track. We have also had many complaints from local residents complaining about the high pitched noise the motorised cars make. We have signage on the track stating 'For bike use only no motorised cars allowed'. Our bike patrols are monitoring this and telling people it is for bikes only. Also Otley police are calling in and doing the same. So unfortunately the BMX Track is for bikes only and we would not be able to allow one day a week for motorised cars." Unfortunately we are unable to help any further with this enquiry. Administration Section Parks and Countryside"
Sandmaster Ben
some saddo had obviously reported my reg number, we should all go use the on the grass by the tarn, even the car park at the tarn, surely that has no restriction at all even if the noise annoys the losers
AVBC
Hi anyone still go to Yeadon tarn..? I also have read the most recent bye laws and they say that rc boats can ONLY be used at Yeadon, in the Leeds area, and that powered( ic/petrol) can be run there ! I have a Dragon Shark fast electric which I think is pretty quick..
moorlander
I know this is an old post = but does anyone know if Nitro/petrol rc boats can be used on the tarn when the sailing club or model boat club aren't using it ?
