  1. Seems like HPI finally gives up on the vapor ESC. Let's hope the new one gives less trouble to the users. The new shell looks great. I Think I will roder one and pray that it holds up at bit better than the old one
  2. No problems with the transmission as another ESC works fine in the car Will give the ESC one last chance tomorrow by adding a cap bank og 6x470uF low ESR polymer caps. If that doesent help I trash it. But.... What to get AS replacement?
  3. I forgot to mention that I've tried another motor this evening (same model as my own, running perfectly with another SC8 ESC in my colleagues XS) - Same result. So it dosen't seem related to the motor. I've checked all the wires etc. and everything looks fine. But the ESC caps are completely shot. I might try to add a cap bank on the battery wires to see if that helps. But I'm afraid that it doesent
  4. Lately my XS has been running far from great. I have a huge amount of cogging when trying to set off and my motor gets smoking hot. I have tried different batteries with same result. I think i need a new ESC. First the caps blew on this one (HW SC8 WP) and now this. But I really can't decide if i should get a new SC8 combo or a Castle SV3 SCT combo. I'm leaning towards the Castle as I have had a lot of trouble with my current HW (Oh I forgot - The LVC is completely useless on this one). Anyone here running the SV3 SCT combo in their XS? The prices are about the same as Modelsport is the only option for me to buy the SC8 (If ordered from HK the import taxes in Denmark is ridiculous and none of the UK based sellers will ship to Denmark). Lastly - Is the center CVD's worth the price?
  5. Is that official from HPI? I know that the SS is gone but haven't heard about the RTR. Stock seems good at my local dealers.
  6. I bought it on ebay as i only needed the ESC itself, and modelsport did not sell it alone. I am aware of hobbywings warranty, but the customs in Denmark are crappy and I would most likely end up paying import taxes if I got a new one shipped from Asia. I'm thinking of just turning off the LVC and find another solution. I have one of those simple 3.2V buzzers that i could fit instead. Problem is that if I'm using a battery that have some cycles on it, the alarm will beep under acceleration even at full charge because of the voltage sag. So I will have listen when the sound becomes constant. It's easier on planes that have a more constant current draw from the batteries I guess I will buy another brand next time - Looking at the SW3 from castle.
  7. I checked both batteries, but it was after serveral cuttoffs (a short break turns off the LVC as the voltage stabilizes). The best battery had bothd cells around 3.83 and 3.8 for the oldest. When i recharged them i was able to charge about half off their capacity which is in line with voltage/capacity charts for lipo cells. I've adjusted the ECS serveral times using the button. I've double checked and i'm pretty sure that it is correct. But i consider ordering a programming box so i can update the firmware too. The input caps on the battery side seems like they have been quite hot. But when measured they still hold their capacity as rated.
  8. Thank you for you answers. The seller really don't care and states it as user error. But I am pretty sure that it is the LVC, as the ESC blinks for low battery. Some days it trips almost immediately and other days i will get almost a full pack of use from it. Gearing is the same as stock on the RTR model. The LiPo's are ranging from 30 to 65C and have no problems in the RTR XS i mentioned before. I've read quite a few complaining about the same behavior on their SC8. But could it be the motor ? That one is not new anymore..
  9. Does anyone have a suggestion to a good waterproof ESC for the XS? First i had a really bad Turnigy one that fried quickly and i got my money back for that one. Then i bought a SC8WP which I've been running for the last 6 months - But it is driving me crazy by tripping the LVC far too early. Last time it shut down after 5 minutes on a 5000mAh battery. I've tried to set cutoff voltage as low as 2.8V and it makes no difference at all - It trips far to early anyway. So next up is a new ESC, but what to buy?
  10. I've gone for 3V cutoff, that works fine for me. I end up with about 20% capacity when it cuts off the first time. The wires sounds like bad soldering
  11. It's just much easier to do backflips with 3S But that being said, i've also stripped my diff on 2S.. I really need some steel hop up parts.
  12. Right now i'm quite tired of repairing my diffs. Got a 3s pack last week, and everything seems to blow up. 2x ring gears, 2x bevel gears, 1x CVD and a diff outdrive. I think i will build a complete diff with housing and spend some time shimming it better. How do you guys shim the center outdrive? There is a huge amount of free play even if you put a few shims under the pin.
  13. You can set the SC8 quite easily with the set button - I've done that many times. Okay, I think i will give that a try ! Thanks.
  14. Allright thanks. Maybe my old ESC had the LVC set lower. But is it normal that it looses speed before cutoff? The manual only states that the ESC cuts the power. Btw. the SS model seems to be discontinued Sad to see the kit versions go!
