  2. Thanks for the idea, but surely that would take longer to put onto the computer? With a DVD, i can just rip it onto the harddrive. But having to capture will mean il have to let the whole thing play again wont it? My sister has a camcorder but i've never used it so excuse the stupidity! I think im going to go for ripping the DVD to Divx. It will mean i can save quite a bit of store space and decrease the number of discs im having to use and since my dvd player can play DivX files, it wont make a major difference. And then editing the AVI file will be easy. However do you know of any DVDtoAVI tools? I've seen, as im sure many of you have, DivX/Xvid films which are only 700mb dvd-rips but are of amazing quality. Of course less than that of a DVD, but id be happy to sacrifce that small difference in PQ for that huge store saving!
  3. Thats the problem, i cant do it on the DVD Recorder. Well to be exact i can but the deleted scenes will not free up space on the disc unless its the last thing on the disc. I need to free up space by removing adverts because there is roughly 30minutes going to adverts on each disc, and since i need to back up around 20-30hours worth of stuff, that extra space on each disc will help reduce the number of discs i have to use. What im doing/hoped to do was record programmes from my PVR (Hard Drive recorder) to a DVD+RW via the DVD-Recorder, edit on the computer to save space, put back into the DVD recorder and record one more program onto the disc, then copy the DVD+RW onto a DVD-R to archive. Then format the DVD+RW and reuse for the next batch of programmes, so the cycle repeats. Going to be quite long since im expecting to use 15 DVD-R's and thats if I remove the adverts
  4. Hmm thought it was going to probs be unlikely to do it on the fly. Ohwell, as long as it doesnt take too long to dump and reburn, it shouldnt be a massive problem. There must be some simple software out there to just cut the video. Il have a google! Thanks
  5. Hi, Been recording some stuff with my DVD recorder but id like to remove adverts and input chapters. Is there any software in which i can do this "on the fly"? i.e As i make an edit, it makes the edit on the DVD? OR if this isnt possible, is there any program which will dump the DVD contents in a temp folder on my HD. allow me to edit it, and then burn back the new file? If so could you link me to the software and the time it takes to do this process? BTW Im using a DVD+RW. Thanks

Ahh you jammy dodger! But i got 5 year warranty so na na . Although i presume you could smash you screen when its nearing the end of the warranty and get a new upgraded set for replacement Completed Resistance today. Whooop! Also set a time on GT:HD in the tuned ferrari and am ranked within the top 50. So good day for me today

Sounds awesome! Cool mode should be fine, and im glad your enjoying your plasma! BTW Check your warranty terms and conditions. The manufactor itself dont ever seem to cover burn-in under warranty nor do many store warranties. Although i havent heard a case of burn-in for a blooming LONG time! These new TV's are very well built, but are still suffering from retention. Have you got Motorstorm? Watch the intro and be prepared to be amazed! The actual footage at the beginning of the game looks real. One of my mates insisted it was real. You'll know which bit im talking if you have the game. Absolutly stunning and thats only on my 720p screen. I think motorstorm is natively 1080p which will be amazing on your TV. Also CSI always looks stunning. One of the best picture quality SD programmes, if not THE best. The main channels shouldnt look too bad as the quality of the broadcast is good, although sport on ITV seems to always suck. Just the other smaller channels where you may be slightly dissapointed. But meh, that nowhere outweighs playing PS3 in that quality and size (well maybe not for you after using a projector, but its still fairly big for me!)! Just got off Resistance, damnit i still havent completed it! I think im right at the end now though... Congrats on the TV tho, nice quality set and mixed with the PS3 and some blu-ray films, you must be very chuffed with it

Ooops didnt notice this thread before! Anyways nice choice of plasma. I was considering that model, but since i do a lot of standard defination TV watching on it, i was told to go for the Panasonic TH50PX70. But i did check out the samsung but ended up trusting what i heard on the net and also i just thought the panasonic would have the better build quality. However i've seen the samsung and it looks stunning when setup properly. Cant remember who, but someone has already said that the way the big stores (Currys, Comet etc) setup thier TV's is dreadfull. Trust me when i say that setting up your TV will make a surprising difference. What i really recommend is to "Break In" the TV. Keep the contrast and brightness under half way for the first 200hours and take the TV out of Dynamic mode right now!!! Put it on Normal and also turn DNIe off. Also try not to do much long gaming, and avoid static images (Eg Channel Logos) by using the zoom function. Although this is annoying for the first 200hours, its best to just do this to prevent retention which all plasmas are susceptible to. Retention is when these static images are retained by the cells, so when you change the channel, you can still see those images . Normally always fades away but i've heard by doing this Break In procedure it helps reduce this happening and for me its worked. When i used to play GT:HD, all the timer bars etc were retained after only 5-10minutes of gameplay. I used to just watch normal TV and then it faded though. However after i completed 200hours, it took more like 30-45minutes of gameplay to cause retention. My screen now doesnt really show any retention (well it does slightly, but only visable on a dark background, and if your looking for it, but this fades quickly anyway). After the 200hours setup your TV! You probs have a THX Optimizer facility on a DVD lying around. I think all the Star Wars DVD's have this facility but im sure one your DVD's will. This simply shows a number of screens with easy commands on how to adjust your brightness, contrast and sharpness. Regarding people saying that you should get a Full HD 1080p screen due to the size....well i dont think it always applies. A true HD 1080p resolution is 1920×1080. Firstly, if your watching Standard Definition TV (768×576 I think) then the 720p will give you a better picture because the 1080p would need to upscale the picture even more which leads to more imperfections. So for SD, at the moment, 720p is better although it may change as the upscalers improve (although i know you can buy external scalers but i never researched into them). For HD viewing, then yes, the 1080p TV will look better...with a 1080p signal! The majority of PS3 games i think are 720p so cant see how they would look that much better with a 1080p screen. Even with a 1080p source however, the difference will be noticed by some, and wont be by others. You will need to be sitting within 7-8 feet to notice the difference for sure though. So for me, 720p is better for my needs and since the price of a decent 1080p plasma is almost double, it was an easy descision. However if your doing a fair bit of gaming then 1080p is probs better for you. Also remember, although picture quality does depend on resolution, it also depends on many other factors. Just think of still cameras Anyways have fun with that screen doom. You've definatly picked up a gud'un Also take advantage of the VGA input which someone i know failed to remember he had on his TV, and wasted a day or two trying to setup his PS3 to play media files.... EDIT: Just noticed, doom did you get the TV from currys you linked on page 1? The 52inch LCD Samsung? Or did you get the 50inch Full HD Plasma Samsung? If you got the LCD then you can forget about retention and breaking in. It wont effect you at all
  9. Well i've managed to get it working through WMP. The file has always worked through VLC but the problem is that i want to stream it over to the PS3 which means i needed another program to run the vid. Anyway at least its finally playing without juddering on the laptop. Now just need to run it through to PS3 arghh! Thanks anyway lads
  10. Apparently it wont... learning more and this seems an extremely complex encoding process. Im sure one of the computer guys will know much more about MKV. Doom!!! lol i believe he has a PS3 and HD Projector so i presume he knows a bit more. BTW I want to end up streaming this to my PS3 via TVersity.
  11. Hi, I've got a trailer in an MKV file. Its in HD (720p) and states x264 in the filename? I believe x264 is actually what its encoded with and MKV is simply a container. I had never heard of these files before so did some research into finding a codec which would play it, and ended up installing CCCP. Now the files plays through WMP but is juddering and pausing etc. This would normally lead me to think its my laptop which isnt fast enough to process it but its a Intel Core2Duo T5600 (1.83ghz) with 2GB DDR2 RAM? Surely thats enough to play this video, isnt it? Please help

    PS3

Well i shall be purchasing the PS3 on wednesday when the new "Starter Bundle" is out. Was actually going to buy last week with an extra controller, R:FOM and NBA2k7. But since they will be selling the PS3, extra pad, R:FOM and Motorstorm for £425, ill definatly go for that. Then probs trade Motorstorm for NBA2k7. IMO way overpriced especially for the UK market, which are paying over 1.5x the US are paying. Amazon.com even has the 60GB + 6 free blu-ray films + blu-ray remote for $499!! Now if that same offer was in the UK, i would be shocked if there was a gigantic rush and it wasnt sold out everywhere. Another concern is the pad, not rumble and from what i've heard, cheap and light. Not exactly what you expect when your blowing £400+ on a console. But to be fair, it does have a lot going for it, blu-ray in built, superb graphically, online play sounds like a huge improvment from before and is still free, Pro Evo (xbox version is a JOKE!), MGS, Final Fantasy etc etc. These are the reasons for me buying one. However i think it would be more sensible to wait untill october/november when the next price cut occurs and more titles are out. At the moment, it seems a bit dry. But im impatient

  21. Kyosho Spider SP2 Hotbodies Tornado LST Mini LST RC18T Hyper 8 Pro Another RC18T Revo Hong Nor X1 CRT RTR <--- Never used it, infact just sold it this morning. Not many and tbh not into using my Revo that much. Wish i could race tbh because hitting ramps is boring me. I may try out Electric Touring cars in the summer as Snetterton is 30mins drive away from me so that would be interesting. Only problem is that it seems far too competitive for me and the drivers i normally see have amazing skill around the track.
