When the pin gets loose remove the half shaft, rotate 90 degrees and drill new holes. Problem solved for a while. Provided you use the right sized drill bit!
Not a bad idea, I'm gonna try it.
Do you know the drill size?
-
Yes, 1/2 inch offset desperados with trencher x's already fitted. They're on the modelsport site.
Alright, how 's the hi-speed cornering with these?
-
Just converted my Summit using the HobbyKing 1/8 brushless set. A simple installation job using the stock 14 tooth pinion and it's a beast! So much power on just 4 cell that the thought of 6 cell is frightening! Went for a set of Trencher X's on the 1/2 inch offset rims while I was at it and the handling is 10 times better.
Nice wheels, are those proline too? Got a link?
-
Fair-dos.
Most guys ( traxxas forum... ) stick the MMM or similar BL systems into the Summit and then drive it like an erevo, so it's little wonder so many of those kinda guys strip diffs and driveshafts constantly, no points for guessing what the common bit of 'advice' is that they receive 2 years with no real breakage is impressive driving & care for sure
Know what you mean. I'm pretty cautious with it.
I won't drive it on 6S either, I want to keep it alive
I do jump it however, and it's easier to control mid air on BL.
-
Ah, another guy who runs BL in the Summit; buy an erevo for BL, keep the summit for slow driving!
But yeah, sounds exactly like the joint / hole got stretched and now the pin will just keep popping out. Traxxas doesn't sell cvds for the 4 corners, just the centre shafts ( that thought crossed my mind- they would need to make/sell 2 different lengths vs a single length that fits all 4 corners so not worth the hassle for traxxas ), however MIP do sell cvds for all for corners ( universal style slider shafts ):
http://www.ebay.co.u...=item5ae94d955e
several sellers if you do a quick search for 'traxxas summit cvds'. Might be worth a go, if not replace with another stock shaft...
I know, but the Summit is just awesome on BL It then just becomes the ultimate fun truck!
And I've never liked the looks of the erevo, looks too squashed.
I've got to say, I'm not a brainless basher, apart from 2 front bumpers, this is the first breakage in 2 years time.
Gonna try the MIP CVD's then, thanks for help!

Too much torque and too soft plastic = it stretches a little and the pin pops out. You could replace the shaft / that end of it ( if you can find the separate parts in the UK ), or maybe swap to the erevo shafts & tweak the lengths ( one is shorter at each end of the truck ). I doubt a ziptie would work to hold anything in place- do you drive with the diffs locked when this happens?..
Hmm, good question. I was indeed driving it full speed (BL on 4S) with the front diff locked, although I didn't know that. I must have pushed the switch accidentally and not notice.
Do you think that might have caused it?
I usually only lock diffs when I'm crawling, not in high gear.
The next ride (after I put it back together) was even shorter. Diffs were not locked and the pin popped out after a few minutes of bashing.
I must say that, when putting it back together, it was kind of loose, no snug fit really. It got me wondering how on earth that pin would stay in when driving...
So I guess the half shafts are just worn now?
Do they have CVD's for the Summit?
Thanks for your help!

I got this happening last time I went out on the beach with the Traxxas Summit.
The pin connecting the half shafts to the front axles pops out.
Put everything back together but it happened again on the next run after 5 min.
Why is this happening?
Never happened before in 2 years time.
Can anyone help?
-
You've got a picture when it's a complete 5B shorty?
-
I doubt they're gonna sell lots of these.
What a butt-ugly shell

I'm quite certain every country has regulations on importing goods & the value threshold before the items are subject to vat & import duties; 2 minutes on google gave me an exact answer ( I searched for "vat threshold on imported goods belgium" ):
http://www.dutycalcu...g-into-Belgium/
150 Euros for Import duty & 22 Euros for VAT.
Not hard to find these things out & it is very important to look them up if you don't want any nasty surprises when ordering from overseas....
Unbelievable I have to learn that from a Brit!
Thanks a lot Neill, really useful.
What's bizarre is that my decalred value is about $33 (approx 25
-
What is the threshold on the value of goods imported into Belgium? $33 is still about ~
-
Did you not adjust the value of the package ( customs label ) at checkout on hobbyking? I don't know what the threshold for importing goods is into Belgium, but anything below ~
-
Thanks for replies guys, I should have specified I live in Belgium, sorry for that.
I'm still in doubt what to do.
I'm gonna email Hobbyking and ask them if this is legit, or maybe give them a call tomorrow (it's 9 PM now over there).

I do order regularly from Hobbyking (6th time now) and I've never had any issues with customs charging me duties.
Until now, I received a rather bizarre email from their shipping company:

I'm finding this really strange, cause:
-I've been hit by customs before (not with an HK-order), and it was then collected by the postman at my door
-The English grammar used in this mail is of poor quality (you would expect an international shipping company to write proper English, wouldn't you?)
-There are 3 different fonts and 2 colors used in the email, like it was drawn up by some amateur
-They only propose me to pay with paypal?? That's the thing I find the most suspicious...
They're not asking me a big amount of money (approx.

I'm going by what I was taught a while ago and after a quick search these posts seems to concur, are we all wrong?

Well, I have to say that is interesting indeed.
I would be inclined to say yes, but of course I could be mistaking as well.
I don't have time right now to surf the web looking for the right answers, but for now:
I have always known undergearing to cause hot motors with brushed systems, but generally not with brushless systems where I'd tend to say it's the opposite.
Any guru opinions are welcome of course!
-
Hence pulling more current from the ESC and making the ESC run hotter, and undergearing the motor makes it spin too fast and generates heat, pulling less current from the ESC as there is less load? My logic
Hot motor = under geared
Hot ESC = over geared
Hot everything = Way overgeared
Like you wish guys, have it your way!
-
Not sure, I always believed that
It's just logic really: If you put a large pinion on a motor, it will obviously have a much harder time turning it round than it would turning a small pinion round, hence generating more heat cause the load is heavier.

No problem. Got plenty of fabric in stock. Can get you one sorted pretty quickly. Will put my seamstress on standby! ;-)
Thanks
Justin
Alright, weekend, at last! Time to forget about work!
No coupon code for MSUK-forum members Justin?

What is hot? Motor hot means undergeared, ESC hot means overgeared, warm on both means perfect, my motor runs fairly hot, but not hot enough to worry imo
it's the other way around fella ;-)
-
Alright, that's a nice & convincing reply.
I'll be ordering then, looks like what I need exactly.
-
Has anyone ordered from their site yet?
Is this a legit company to order from?
-
Concerning tire questions here, I'm pretty pleased with the Proline Gladiators.
Grip is awesome with wheelies on grass but also nice to control in oversteer on loose surfaces.
They do balloon quite a lot though, so taping them is recommended. Can't go back on mine, they're glued now.

That fan will die if you run the ESC as-is on 3s. The way to get around it is to desolder the power leads for the fan on the ESC, and solder them to a plug for the receiver (just the red and black wires on the receiver plug) and that'll mean it'll get a steady 6v no matter what input voltage to the ESC.
Or you can cut them into the red and black wires from the ESC to the RX I've heard.
I've got the same ESC in my Storm, but I ordered a 12v EZRun fan off of eBay for
Proline Trencher X on 1/2" offset wheels
