  1. I'm not sure but I think maybe try reattaching the base and then unscrewing the top screw. This is the regular Flux isn't it and not the Flux Plus?
  2. FTX would be fine for a first buggy or truggy. I half wish I'd bought the Vantage first as last as I'd probably still be driving it rather than the myriad of junk I've smashed up. For someone with a bit of experience wanted 3S and above power then I'd say Arrma Typhon, Corally Radix if you want a buggy. With the Arrma being more of a basher and the Corally more of a racer. For truggy style I am running a Maverick Quantum + Flux which I'm happy with but I wish I had spent a little more and gone with something more robust from Arrma, Traxxas or Corally. Practicality wise a 1/10 buggy is much more sensible as they're just easier to carry around. With a truggy or MT you really have to plan ahead and deliberately have it charged and ready in advance. A buggy you can just grab for a spur of the moment blast as it easily fits in a backpack. I think I'd advise all first timers to go for a buggy first
  3. Well I've got half of the other truck that I can use for parts so I'm gonna just keep hold of it untilnita torn to shreds. Then I'll look at something else. I'd half a mind to buy a proper racing buggy but that might be something to get my son into in a couple of years
  4. Corally Radix gets rave reviews. They're supposed to be a much better "racer" compared to the Typhon
  5. I've got the blue and grey Flux + Was looking for some road wheels for it but it looks like I'm gonna have to get 17mm hex adapters as nothing is available with the obscure 14mm hex fittings that come on it. I love the truggy but it is massive compared to a 1/10 buggy and I always look at buggies and get buyers remorse. I think I'll eventually try to sell it on and get a Typhon or that Corally Radix that gets rave reviews. Buggies are just easier to toss in a backpack and take anywhere. I have to plan when I'm taking a truck anywhere
  6. Stripped the knackered Maverick Quantum and turned it into a Tamiya last night. My daughter found it much lighter to carry this morning and isn't so intimidated by it. The ESC is quite big compared to a Tamiya model so must be top mounted and prevents the driver from being installed but I've always found the drivers to look a bit naff. Had a nightmare with stickers as I stupidly had the wing upside down and had to carefully lift hem off and turn it round. Then the silver square at the top showed a massive lump which underneath was just a microscopic plastic bur that had to be lifted and sanded off. I'll see how she gets on with this one and whether it needs oil shocks
  7. Well the old pink Quantum in now a little Rising Fighter. The large ESC meant I couldn't install the driver but my daughter thinks they're naff anyway. I was tempted to try and get the pinion gear off the 550 from the Quantum but the stock 540 is plenty for her. Any more and the car will become far too skittish. It's already quite twitchy as it is.
  8. I've got a Tamiya to build this weekend as I'm stripping the knackered brushed MT down for parts and using its radio gear and ESC. Once that's done and the wife has forgotten how much I've spent I'll get the wheels and adapters ordered in
  9. Thanks. I've seen these and was unsure about them. Are these absolutely fine and won't come loose? If this is the case then I'll just go out and get some and some wheels. Do people bond the adapter to the wheel or just put them in and screw it tight? https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/fastrax-1-8-truggy-eagle-mtd-on-5spoke-black-0-offset-pr--421232 I've had my eye on a set of these for street blasting
  10. Has anyone got any recommendations for street tyres or wheel and tyre combos? The Quantum + Flux has 14mm hex fittings which means there aren't a lot of options it seems and I'm struggling to find any adapters. I'm not keen on completely changing the 14mm to 17mm as then just changing street to offroad wheels becomes a massive chore.
  11. Tamiya Rising Fighter arrived today so it's just an unboxing. The busted Maverick Quantum is being stripped for parts and radio gear transfered to the Tamiya which I'm hoping will be a bit more manageable for my daughter and less prone to breakage which has really dented her confidence.
  12. It's what to do with the old electronics really. I do fancy a Tamiya kit to build up. Something like a Grasshopper or a Rising Fighter. I know it's a downgrade but it's more of something that she can be a part of building and won't be so intimidated by. I've looked at Rustlers and Bandits for a good 2WD option for her as well. It's mainly about cost and trying to recoup some of the money that was sunk into the Quantum MT
  13. I've mixed feelings about these cars. I have the Quantum Flux + in blue/grey running on 3S and it's an absolute blast. My daughter has the pink brushed MT and so far I've replaced motor, servo, couple of suspension arms and now the diff has packed up. Awful grinding sounds and loss of power to the front wheels. I've got a feeling I might be better off stripping it for parts and keeping them for my Flux + and then picking up a cheap 2WD Tamiya buggy to put all the motor and electronics into. I think my daughter is a bit intimidated by it's size and since it has broken a few times she has lost confidence in driving it. Its like every time she takes it out a part breaks and it ends play. With a 2WD buggy I'm hoping the lighter weight and simpler drive will make it more enjoyable
  14. Put batteries in it and passed it to my little fella. He loves it. Start 'em young I say.
  15. I've been enjoying my Quantum+ Flux. It is brutally quick for what I paid for it and I've had no real trouble with it besides having to replace the front arm that is notorious for breaking. My issue is I'm not sure exactly where these things are best suited. I've taken it on gravel paths and it gets battered with loose gravel, you can here it getting into all the running gear so I'm avoiding loose gravel. Same issue with anything other than short dry grass, it gets everywhere. It'd need new tyres for road use so there's not really much point in that. I'm guessing it is best suited for dry hard pack dirt with no loose stones which I tend not to be able to find.
  16. Thanks, I've done that. I tried to discharge them but they won't play so I took them to the recycling centre. It's been an expensive £90 education as it's 2 batteries I've borked so I'm gonna stick with some cheaper lower capacity models until I've got my brain engaged properly
  17. Got sent to work away and forgot I left the lipo plugged into my truck. Anyway its dead, low voltage warning and it can't be recovered. Where do I take a dead battery? Can't exactly stick it in the wheelie bin
  18. Anyone had any luck with street tyres on their Quantums. I'm loving mine but wouldn't mind a set of chunky street tyres for blasting around on the front. Had a look at those Roapex Trigger wheel and tyre sets or the Duratrax Banditos and am leaning on those. Just want something reasonably priced so I'm not wearing the off road tyres out hooning on tarmac
  19. Replaced a suspension arm on the Quantum + Flux XT after smacking it hard into a kerb. Installed a new motor to my daughter's Quantum MT. Big faff as I had to disassemble the whole rear end and then some fiddly screws kept jumping on to the motor as it was more magnetic than the screwdriver. Had a little blast on the front before rain stopped play
  20. I now have 2 functional Quantums. Pink MT and blue Flux + Absolute faff to replace the motor and I've still ended up with an odd screw and no idea where it came from. New battery arrived for the Quantum + Flux and I instantly crashed it after one of the kids came bursting out of the house shouting "DAD, DAD, DAAAAAD, THE GARDEN, THE GARDEN" So I ran to the garden and it was just my cats killing a bird. Anyway new suspension arm later and they're both bashing around our street ready for an excursion this weekend
  21. In all honesty, if I could go back to the beginning I'd have bought a different brand than the Mavericks.
  22. Motor arrived for the daughter's pink Quantum MT. I managed to disassemble the car and get the old motor out but the pinion gear hex screw just wouldn't come out and I've mangled the hex thread. New pinion gear ordered and hopefully the new motor will get the car running again. Bought a blue Quantum Flux +for myself. First run out and the deans connector on the battery snapped off and shorted the battery. New battery ordered and the old one will be getting sent back as faulty. Not having much look with RC cars at the moment
  23. I have the exact same problem. It isn't a binding issue as far as I can tell. Brushed motors aren't expensive. The Maverick replacement is around £12
  24. Take the cover off where the aerial pokes out. The receiver is inside. Turn on the transmitter. Hold the little bind button on the receiver then turn the car on. When the LED starts flashing red then press the bind button on the transmitter for 1 sec The transmitter will flash and then both lights will go solid. I did this, it didn't help. I think the motor is dead
  25. This sounds exactly like the problem I am having. I can steer but no drive and reverse. It used to beep once when the transmitter switched on and beep again when the car is switched on. Now the car doesn't beep, just flashes a light. I have another car arriving next week with a proper charger rather than the USB thing as well as another battery so I will be able to tell if it is a battery or charger issue then. I have a feeling the motor has gone though.
