Hi Guys, So I have bought a 2s lipo a overlander 7.4v 7600mah for my car .. I just assumed higher mah meant longer run times. However as much as I research Lipo batteries I have some questions. Running my car on 7.2 v 1800mah NiMH and 7.2v 3200mah NiMH .. the car ran fine but for a very short time.
1) On charging the battery my max charge rate is 6amp so I can not dial in the recommended 7.6 amp for charging. Will my charger charge the battery fully if I up the cut off to 7600mah. or will it overcharge the battery? Do I need to change the charge settings on my charger?
2)Secondly I did a balance charge at 6amp with the cut off at 7600mah and ran my car but after switching the ESC from NiMH to Lipo do I need to reprogram the ESC?
3) And have I fried the ESC some how even though its rated to for a 2S lipo The only warning in the manual was for the discharge rate of anything over 30c could damage the motor. The motor is a brushed thrust 15T eco (despite my best efforts I can not find the ratings for this engine.) The battery stated 30c constant with 55 burst for 8 seconds . So I am guessing I will probably ruin the engine according to the manual. As there where a few issues after swapping to Lipo, firstly the steering was really weak and did not return to center when the control was released. Also if I switch off my control before the switching off the car. The car will go full blast. (forgive my ignorance that last time I did rc it was crystals and and mechanical speed controllers) It did not do this when I was using the NiMH batteries. (also the manual says there is a fan cooler for the ESC. The ESC got really hot but there was not cut off as mentioned by the manual.. Also there is no fan attached one as there is no room the way the chassis is designed)
4) Even though the ESC is rated for 2s Lipo is the battery I have chosen to powerful?
thanks in advance.
