  1. Thanks for the info mate. It's in rice in a warm conservatory, so I'm sure it'll be OK, and if not, only a few days to wait for delivery on more parts. Could force a motor upgrade... No don't do it... Already looking at a second car! maybe 4WD! Hah. Time to explore more about RC and the brands. Taxxis seems a big brand
  2. Plus just have to watch for rice coming out and taking out eyes out as it spins to live
  3. Thats good to know. They polarity sensitive, or will be in reverse? Just connect to a "more or less full" battery. Actually that's what I'm annoyed about had two full batteries, lovely weather 2nd day out with it and was gonna have so much fun! Gonna rain rest of week, so.... Be ages till get another go and driving hah! Leaving it in rice till tomorrow night and will try then Updates will follow. Turned into "Gunjas adventures into RC!"
  4. I am bizarrely not "massively" phased by this. Whilst I'm quite annoyed at him for doing it, it's my fault really for letting him have a go near the water (11 year old with no experience of RC cars!) His mum has offered to pay for anything that needs replacing. I'm confident if anything it's the motor that has gone, and if right that's all that didnt work when I pulled the battery (steering was still working, the motor cut out). Wasn't much water inside (mainly drops), and the ESC/radio are quite well enclosed. Just hope it's not the servo, not cos of cost but mainly the blinking PITA is was to put that in in the first place. Am I right in thinking that this is a drop in replacement? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tamiya-540-J-Motor-Mabuchi-RS540-SH-53689-Replaces-7435035-7435044-New/264275555021?epid=1183604621&hash=item3d880cf2cd:g:sT0AAOSwEHhcDOoW I might get a better motor (the tuned one), not sure ready for brushless/another tuned motor. Plus the kids can't control it with the standard one! I've attached a photo of the motor I took out! BTW as I took it apart I had the instructions, and wondered why I'd need the 17T/19T "pinion" (is that the right term) gear on the motor? I have the 17T installed at the moment, and this is afterall a learning experience so I'll love to learn!
  5. Thanks gampla. How long for. Was by no means water logged, but was wet a bit. The motor has big gaps which now contains rice any advice how to get that out in a day or two?
  6. Disaster... Help... The car (thanks to a friend's son) has just been more or less submerged in water. I got it out quick, but tried it on grass. Did run for a few seconds then just steering at which point I thought you plinker and disconnected the battery etc. Recommendation please? 😔
  7. Thanks guys. Wasn't sure on the gold instead of the yellow, but hey my little girl picked that and it looks awesome. She loves painting, and I can see some shells getting bought and her doing some custom work First run was excellent, had two full 3000mAh batteries, and lasted ages! How long do I need to let it cool down, or can it be run constantly, damn that motor gets hot! Just trying to work out where locally in Cheshire I can find some good dirt to have a go on without trees/other obstacles (some jumps and ramps are also in order ;)). Round the local park was good, and just stopped when dogs walked through. All the good places I can think of have dogs running around, and doubt cars/dogs mix well! So upgrades next car, etc also on my mind ( though will give the spending a little break tbh!) One real question really. I haven't used any glue on the tyres, they fit damned well (actually the backs were a right pain to get into the right grooves, but managed eventually). Is there much real benefit to gluing them? Also how often should I be greasing, etc?
  8. Well... Nearly gave up last night The shocks went OK, other than realised I needed all air out and rebuilt, but the servo and front steering just didn't fit right (rubbed!). Gave up at 4AM... Woke up rebuilt it... Put more together and the servo screw had dropped... Ergh. Fought with the ball clips, for steering (must get the upgrade kit where you can adjust in place...) Anyways, bearing in mind no yellow in stock, daughter had picked the gold.... Here it is! Paint and cutting not great, the decals not exactly right abd some air bubbles (hate that stuff TBH prefer under the hood!) Right I have 2 batteries ready to go... Let's go break it
  9. Haha, yeah cycle chat! Thanks for the recommendation, it was yours! Anyways, there's no thread lock, and also no tyre glue I've noticed. I got it today and started this evening. Read through manual a few times, and put all the bolty bags into tubs numbered, checked all the parts were there. TBH it's fairly easy I'm just taking my time. It was cutting out the shell me and my daughter found the hardest and it's not great, but think it'll be OK when we paint it tomorrow and she puts the decals on! Here is where I am up to
  10. Thanks for this link. Good to know they "available" when stocks come in. Hopefully won't be too much longer! Will keep an eye out for when they back. Guessing the whole hobby is struggling with supply, noticed modelsport stock for a lot of things isn't great! Really good to know. Saw it recommended somewhere. Sure will get into it, and it should be here tomorrow! Fingers crossed, eek
  11. Apparently the one I ordered was a "Full ball bearing configuration", so will see what comes with the kit, before ordering "upgrades", which I'm sure I will do Link here: https://www.modelsport.co.uk/tamiya-sand-viper-dt-02-/rc-car-products/25688
  12. Thanks for the reply Gampla. Don't think discouraged is the right word, just think it will delay my expected going out with the buggy sooner, but hey ho. I do understand that putting it together means I'll understand what may or may not go wrong and learn something! Just want to know I've got everything I need to make it, and also this part to strengthen the shock tower at the front I've seen mentioned A LOT, couldn't find it! Also I won't have "spares" if I mess something up. I believe these kits come with the grease and thread holder (whatever the term is!) that I require. Looking forward to learning about this hobby and possibly upgrading in the future
  13. Hi all, I am totally new to the hobby, but have purchased (rightly or wrongly, and please don't judge!) a Tamiya Sand Viper DT-02 with RC kit, servo, batteries (NiMah), charger and paint... Was a kind of off the cuff choice, and didn't release how much work there was to put it together (it's not arrived yet, been watching videos AFTER buying, hah!) I doubt I'll want to compete, but it's something I've always wanted to get into, and may get more seriously into it in the future. Anyways, people say it's relatively simple, and I'm not a total idiot when it comes to putting things together. I have found some intro guides, but wondered whether there were additional tools I should get it, is much glue required, or what. When it comes to cutting out the parts is there anything I need to be aware of. I know it comes with a basic brushed motor, but this probably not a bad start when it comes to starting out and playing with the kids, but may look into upgrading once I get it built. So a few questions really: What additional tools, etc may I need ( have drivers, small hex, etc), but what else, does the kit come with the right sized spanners, etc I've read and seen videos about the shock towers at the front requiring a bar across them, is there a link in UK to buy one of these, as seems sensible? How hard are the guides (on the cycling forums I was suggested this model one person said they were really hard to follow), so any hints, FULL very BASIC "How to put a kit together guide/hints"? I hope that all makes sense, and look forward to reading around and getting into this hobby! Gunja
