  1.  2 vw t1 flower power bodies prepainted with decals and parts, they where on sale and to cheap to let go, €14,90 per body set.

and some wheels and tires for it.

One of the bodies I am going to use as a shelfer, I have a spare ta-03 rs chassis laying around that I am going go put the body on, and the other is a spare to use on my m-05

I've been a little busy with mine recently.

Despite having made replacement shock pistons which have made an improvement, I thought it could still be better.

So......I decided to try and mod the shock itself. I quite like the Gmade XD piggy back shocks as I mentioned earlier in this thread but reasoned that they wouldn't fit due to the way the shock are fitted to the DC-1

My attention turned to the Gmade Aeration shocks instead (http://www.gmade.net/xd-aeration-shock-93mm-2/ ) so set about modding the top cap of the stock shock. Basically I drilled a tiny hole in the top cap, overfilled the shock and then pushed the shaft to top and fitted a tiny screw.

The first one seemed ok, so I did the rest. Unfortunately, the tiny screws didn't seal very well, so the oil wept past and air got pulled in. No amount of thread lock or superglue would stop it happening.

Gave my self a slap and bit the bullet for new shocks.

A couple had been recommended, like the Traxxas TRX4 GTS shocks or Element RC FT enduro shocks, but i decided to ignore that and get the Gmade Aerations instead.

First things to notice is they are so smooth its unreal. Got them set up at low pressure so the shock shaft actually gets pulled in without a spring fitted!

Secondly they are big! I got the 93mm version so lengthwise they are the same, but the body is 14mm in diameter compared to the 10mm of the kit body.

And that's where things got.....interesting . The lower mount doesn't fit as the included ball joint is too big, swapping it for the stock one makes it loose in the 'eye' so changed the whole eye/ball joint for the stock ones.

The top mount doesn't fit (I can feel another slap coming here) as the body is hitting the shock tower well before it meets the mounting point. After a bit (lot) of head scratching I came up with an alternative, that I designed and 3d printed. It took 10 iterations, but finally settled on something that works

Here is one of the fronts. The white bit is one of the spare pistons, I'm using as a washer to hold it in place

With a stock one (and failed mod) for comparison

The only thing I have noticed is that the shocks are not completely vertical, and are further out at the top compared to the bottom (view from the back)

I have yet to give them a proper run, but bashing around the garden, they are very smooth and the body now doesn't seem to lean to one side when it comes to rest.

This is with very little preload on the springs, about 5 turn of the collar. Think I was using about 10-15 on the dual rates previously fitted

I really like the gmade shocks, I use them on 3 other cars I have, for the hoboa I am thinking buying these dual spring ones because the body is smaller then the normal ones. https://tamico.de/navi.php?a=238273&lang=eng

  3. You are beter of with a hobbywing 10bl60, I have stop using the tamiya TBLE-02 esc they are not very good I had a lot of problems with the tamiya esc and they do not have a lipo cut off so you have to use a lipo alarm.

The hobbywing 60a is enough you do not need a 120a esc, I am running a castle 5700 kv moter in mine with a 15 tooth pinion and it is fine never had a shut down.

    looking good there mate :good:

what tyres are you running at moment ?

I think the same tyres that you  are using and a lot of people here on the dc-1,  they  do not have a lot of grip on loose dirt and sand, maybe I swap them for some proline hyrax or so if I when I have some money to spend on rc stuff, for now I run the car with these tyres.

  5. Today first I replaced te wobbly rear axle, and them I went to the woods to give the car his first run, really like the car it climbs good over obstacles and steep climps, the only thing for me it needs some more  power and wheelspeed I am running a 27 turn 550 brushed motor on 2s, the next time I am going to run it I put a 3s battery in it to wake it up a little.

This is my first real crawler I am used to high power brushles cars, even my tamiya cc-01 with a 1740kv tenshock brushless motor on 2s  has a lot more power and wheelspeed,  I know this car is not made for speed but to me it is real slow and lack some power.

After 50 minutes of running I noticed that the car hangs to one side,  when I looked at the car I saw that I lost a spring retainer, lucky I had a tamiya retainer at home that fits.

  6. small criticism quality  control is not the best with hobao, had to bought a new rear stub axle because one off them had a bad wobble in it and was not straight, today I received a new set of axles, one of them is straight, but the other one from the new set have also a bad wobble in it and is not straight😒😒

    looks cracking mate :good:

It'll work, but original shaft shouldn't be causing an issue in the first place. Never mind, hopefully you'll be up and running soon 👍

sometimes it happens that you get a faulty part that is not made right.

No issues with the connecting shaft here either. Something must have been misaligned when you assembled it, though I can't think how. If you're having to change to a flexible shaft, then imo you're just making the problem, not fixing it.

There is not a misaligned here and you can't put the gearboxes in the wrong way,  its is the shaft that is not straight on mine it has a wobble in it and being solid it has no give, the gearboxes wobble in the chassis with this shaft,  I ordered a flexilbe shaft I can't see why it wil not work they are used most of the time in crawlers.

    ordered this one https://www.asiatees.com/display?Boom-Racing-All-Parts-Hop-Ups-Upgrades&brand=Miscellaneous&model=All&id=152626&pid=1

pity about that we didnt have any problems with ours just screwed straight in

Mine is fits and goes straight in but the driveshaft is not straight  and being solid it has no give, you can see the gearboxes wobble in the chassis with this shaft, so thats not good for the bearings and gears, I ordered this one, and a  light kit  and metal hooks, the only thing I hate that the project is now on hold for some weeks.

  11. Today it was one of those days, one step forward en 3 steps back, thought I had almost a rolling chassis and I had only put the esc and reciever in and put the wheels on, when I tested the car without wheels I ran into 2 problems, the first one was that the rear and front axle rotate in the opposite way from each other so the front go forward and the rear goes backwards,  that was an easy fix  swapped the ring gear on the rear axle to the other side and problem fixed.

But then the biggest problem that I have is with the solid drive shaft between the 2 gearboxes, mine is not straight so it vibrate the whole car and you can see the gearboxes moving in the chassis so thats not good,  I am going to search for a different kind of driveshaft that is not one solid piece.

for me it is a little bit of a odd choice to use a solid shaft, if the gearboxes are not aligned 100% or the shaft is not straight you got a problem.

So I had to remove the axle centergearbox and some other stuff, so not so much as a rolling chassis now😬

  12. It is addiction, I think I owned more then 40 cars in 6 years, redused it to 7cars last year but now I am back at 14 cars, I can help myself always looking for a bargain or something new to buy even if I just had bought a new car, and the covid thing sitting a lot at home with nothing to do did not help to stop it.

But 40 was a little to much, the cars that I own now are a mix of onroad cars, offroad cars, crawler and 1/8 and1/10 scale monster trucks and buggies.

got mine on monday a day early woot and got to work last evening and this afternoon untill a wee while ago, seems a pretty awesome kit to build and it is my first crawler so a bit of a learning experience as well, which is part of the reason i wanted a kit for my first big crawler, when something goes wrong ill know how it goes together 🙂

any one want a pic overload?

it is starting to resemble something

    7K5mVd6.jpg

had my end bits on the end of all the drive shafts at the wrong angle for when it came to fit the shocks lol

    5gsOLUx.jpg

ohoh shock time i hate building shocks, thankfully dad knew what bit to file down to make them slide up and down a lot smoother

    1IElivC.jpg

then i found out the fun bit because i miss aligned the angle on my drive shaft bits i had to do some dismantling to get the shocks to align lol

    s4ETkET.jpg

and now it resembles a truck, muddy wheels because im waiting on bead locks and dad had his old tyres/wheels all ready glued

    behold the glory

    Vjo0Plu.jpg

dad gave me some red alloy thingies

    zbW0der.jpg

still got a surprising amount of grease left over, im used to tamiya kits that hardly have any, any ways i need to start sorting out my leccys for it and spray the body, has been a enjoyable build so far and i have more knowledge than before i started, also had a laugh with dad tonight who kept spinning his pc chair around as a back seat builder, some was useful some not so much lol

You building it on a much faster pace then I do 😁,  building mine in a super slow pace, with the weather being nice I spend my time more on driving my rc cars, and save the build for rainy days, and If I build it to fast then I want to buy something new to build, and I spend allready to much the last 2 months.

But nice to see you having fun building it, and have fun driving it when it is done👍
