Looks like this is turning expensive 🥴
How does your results compare to others doing drag racing?
It's getting very expensive ~ honestly I think I might just take a break, concentrate on my speed runners as I have an event in 2 weeks to go to and then think about how to approach it afterwards.
We are no where near what the Americans are doing as well as some other countries. Seen lots of sub 2 second times for the 132ft using 1/7th scale Arrma's.
Doesn't mean we are doing that bad though just nothing world record beating.
Here is the UK Facebook leader board:#1 James Rc Dnb, Arrma limitless 6s, 2.18s#2 Gareth Monk arrma infraction 6s, 2.31s#3 Phil Calvert, arrma limitless 8s, 2.45s#4 Matt Willis, Arrma Typhon 4s, 2.65s#5 Paul Baker, Arrma Infraction 6s, 2.65s#6 Jas Sin, Arrma Felony 6s, 2.71s#7 Ben Davies arrma typhon 6s, 3.00s- 3

Today was a mixed bag, ...lot's of fun doing the drag runs but another set of tyres wrecked and a slide into a curb put a downer on it all. That's racing I guess.
Just not sure if I'm going to keep doing the drag runs as cannot afford to keep buying tyres this often at over £50 a set.
New PB,
....and all the "eleven's" I left in the car park.
Todays damage: 1 wheel hex rounded, 3 tyres with chunks missing, XLX2 on/off switch broken, battery damaged (still useable), lots of scrapes and a damaged wheel hex.
Another wheel FUBAR thanks to a damaged wheel hex.- 3

Curious what shore did you get ??
I'm guessing these will be purely for drag..!! I have some 35's but not used them yet.
Well I wanted to pay for them using Nectar points on eBay and the only full set I could get was in 40shore hardness so I ended up going for them. I wanted to get the 25 shore hardness to be honest but like I said was trying to use Nectar points rather than my actual cash.
The good thing is that if they don't work out for the drag runs I can at least use them for my speed runs. 😀- 1

Coming down the road from caerphilly mountain is a cracking view at diffrent times the year . I like when is low fog and you cant see caerphilly at all it's like being in a plane when your above the clouds then you go thro the fog and then you see the town .houses an so on . Or at night just the lights an if you out at 12 midnight quite a lot street lights go off and it's cool to see all the lights then loads turn off . Just some main road lights showing .
Should go up there on Fireworks night as it's great watching them all for free, ...loads from gardens and if the Castle has a display on then you can see that too.

@GMballistic are you running 6s or 8s ?? Nice to see you got top spot already 👍
Here's mine, but I'm running 1/8 scale distance 188ft.. SWB truck, R1's, stock Arrma BLX running 4s
That time wasn't the best I've done and I need to tweak the gearing a little, since then I have changed the spur but not run the car yet..
I'm running 6S.
The "RC Drag League UK 1/7 1/8" (#RCDLUK78) on Facebook race over the 132ft.
Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1118696538867901
I could try doing it to the 188ft distance but then it starts causing issues with finding a decent location which I don't want to do as that's the problem with speed running I have which is finding a safe suitable location. At that distance my Infraction would be probably clocking 80+mph odd.

was it like slow motion going towards the curb? 😄
It was a bit yep.
It did take a while to get that time though, ...I did loads of hits where I didn't even bother taking a screen shot of the result as wasn't happy with how it went. First time I've hit LVC on my lipo too in a long time as well.
The damage was to the wheel nut as well as the wheel spokes. Still could of been much worse.

nice one mate! 🙂
i just had a quick look at the photos and when i saw a chip on the pavement, i though' thats it, completely trashed the car' but upon reading the comments, i am very surprised it didnt do anything!
well done on the quick thinking, if it was me, i would have been somewhat dumbstruck and wont know what to do 😄 then crash it 😄
In my head I was like; "it's not stopping, it's not stopping, IT'S NOT STOPPING!!!!!
Letting go of the brakes and turning away was literally my last second ditch attempt at not wrecking the Infraction for the day. Was small part skill and large part pure luck honestly.
I'm going to keep using the GRP as straightened the spokes out and it's still round so should work fine.
Just need to check over the whole thing properly when I've a second free in case I bent anything I haven't noticed or some screws have come loose. Looks okay at the moment though thankfully.- 2

Went out today with the Infraction to test the new S1 GRP tyres, tweaks made to the XLX2 set up as well as a new car park to run in.
Straight from the off it was going much better, ...the tyres got very sticky with just a few seconds warming them up and the car park had a much cleaner surface for drag racing down. Only downside was the useable area was quite short and not as wide as I'd have liked with some curbs to smash into.
Managed a new PB of 2.41secs which has put me at the top of the FB 1/8th/1/7th UK drag racing leader board so pleased with that.
Not sure how well you can see the "Eleven's" but was pleasing to see.😁
Not so pleasing was this set though which was me basically hard on the brakes at 50-60mph odd trying not to hit the curb.
I failed. ☹️
At the last second I let off the brakes and turned hard left so it ended up being a kind of glancing front end/side hit. Think it caused less damage that way thankfully.
Definitely came home with some battle scars today but also a new PB and I definitely enjoyed it.
Just need to check all my geometry/suspension settings and repair the front splitter then do some more runs after that to see if I can improve on my time further.

That's nuts @YOUR_DJ
Seen them done before with motorbike engines in them but not like that. -
Welcome aboard.
Great to see you've come up with your own mod to get your RC moving. Hope you have a lot of fun with it. -
@BashingBrian yes I saw that he'd clocked 200 thanks. 😏 Amazing achievement.

Cool build man, I enjoyed reading along and getting up to date.
I never considered that there might be a drag scene.
On another note, I'm from Bridgend, don't live there anymore, moved away in 2006 when I was 22.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed reading it.
RC drag racing is so small here in the UK. Seems more like small groups doing it together or like me on your own and sharing/comparing results via social media & FB groups.
I enjoy speed related stuff so wanted to try my hand at this. Easy to find spots to do it too as you only need around 50 metres of clear tarmac. 😉

I used the R1's on my drag car, they are mega sticky when warm.. so sticky in fact that on a warm day I left the car on the tarmac for 10 minutes or so and the car was stuck to the ground..!!!
Brilliant.
I'll see how I get on with the ones I've ordered now but those R1 tyres sound great. 😉

R1's are the softest not S1's 😉 GRP have changed all their tyres now all new wheels and tyre compounds...!!
R1 are "Rain tyres" but not sure how the compound compares to "S1" which GRP list as "XXSoft" (their softest non-rain tyre).
GRP have changed their tyres now you're right but plenty of old stock still floating around to get through before all the new tyres are available everywhere instead. The tyres I've bought AFAIK are the older items still. Hopefully they'll hook up better than the Hoons I've been using. 😏

Got it all set up and running.
First thing is; this is definitely going to be harder than I thought.
Saturday runs.
Initially I set up the XLX2 "Start Power" at low with "Punch Control" set at 0% (so disabled) but this turned out to be a mistake. Trying to control the power/wheelspin off the line was seriously hard even with the power turned down on my Spektrum remote.
This resulted in a lot of side ways action and some very scrubbed tyre walls ~ best time for the 132ft that day was 2.95secs@48mph.
Came home a little deflated so did some adjustments to the XLX2.
This time I changed the "Start Power" to Medium (as I am using good batteries) but altered the "Punch Control" to 70%.Sunday runs
Even like that the power this motor can give combined with the XLX2 is insane but I was definitely starting to get somewhere as made some straight passes. I beat my PB which was good but then play ended after one of the wheels came off.
I actually managed to find the wheel and nut but typically I didn't have my wheel wrench so used my Swiss Army Knife to fix it back on. Ran again but the wheel came off and then I noticed the wheel had rounded the hex ~ not sure if that happened the first time or second but it was game over for today.
Full set of GRP S1's (softest compound) on order to try next and putting the XLX2 on maximum "Punch Control" to see if that helps me leave the line cleanly.

Thanks ~ It's my Golf R estate. 😁
I tried out a new product I got called Autoglym Rapid Aqua Wax and it works really well.
You just wash you car as normal with shampoo, rinse off and then whilst the car is still wet spray some of the "Rapid Aqua Wax" on to the panels. Then use a microfibre cloth to spread it out evenly and then use a separate microfibre cloth to buff to a shine. Really simple and a lot less work than normal waxes to apply.

Check out the clubs and meets sub section to see if anyone is local to you etc would be the best bet. Good luck.

Sorry should of said, ....that is me in second place. Hence the GM in "GMballistic", ...it's my initials. 😉
I'm running 6S with my Infraction but my speed run Limitless is running 8S so I am curious to see how that would do. No way I am risking it though being this close to the first ROSSA Speed Run Championship of 2022. Only 2 weeks a way now so that's my focus.
