Hi,
I’m after getting an old Tamiya model running for my 8-year-old grandson once lockdown and Covid restrictions are history. (When he’s 21?)
I’ve got a 1993 Tamiya TA-01 chassis. The mechanical speed controller, part no. 50253, has now become a switch. I’d appreciate advice as to what to do.
My options would appear to be: 1/ repair (not been successful so far), 2/ replace by an identical unit, 3/ replace by a later, and hopefully improved, mechanical speed controller, and 4/ put in an ESC.
The chassis is in very good condition and mostly original although I have a 55T HPI motor fitted to make it more manageable for my young grandson, who uses the speed controller on my Tamiya Defender rather like a switch ironically. It still seems too fast and I was wondering if there’s a way of slowing the car further? It’ll be used in a smallish area in a garden, with railway sleepers around 3 edges, for a sort of trials test.
The r/c transmitter is an Acorn Techniplus-α AP-201 2-channel unit.
All advice gratefully received, especially if it is in language that’s not too technical.
Derek
