  1. Hey, dunno if this is still relevant but I have a suggestion. Get yourself a small gel battery (for racing) they are small, much lighter then lead acid, way less dangerous (dropping a lead acid battery is no fun for anyone) and will do everything you need. Usually only about 20-30 Ah but that's still 15-20 charges of a 1600 hump pack.
  2. Hey guys. Was looking at getting a hump pack and then I had a thought. I'm thinking I may reconfigure my current battery holder to take 4 14500 li-ions in 2s2p config. Only thing is this will provide 8.4v at full charge (same as a 2s lipo) will this damage the servos and receiver or will I be ok? Servos are just the stock Acme racing ones and the receiver is an absima R3WP Thanks Thom
  3. I saw that yesterday. But when you click on add to basket it says out of stock. I will ring when I have 10 mins spare. Thanks though.
  4. Hey guys. sorry if this is in the wrong section. Where's the 'best' place to buy engines and engine parts? Specifically small block stuff for 1/10 on road. ive seen a number of engines I would potentially purchase but cannot find them for sale anywhere! I'm also looking for a piston and sleeve for an SH.18 and I either get UK stockists with no stock or international who want £30 postage! I'm based in Wrexham and there's not that many model stores I know of let alone ones who deal with nitro. Any help welcone thanks thom.
  5. That's probably the cause! I've been using after run oil but not been checking for BDC. I think I will just rebuild this engine with new sleeve and piston and see how we go. Good shout on the weak link, didn't think if that.
  6. My experience with the SH.18, although very limited, is not good. It's had less than 800ml through it. A large portion of which was running in, and it's already knackered. Maybe I've missed a few thing with regards to running in/after run care or maybe it was a duff engine. as for gearing and diffs letting go, I can already see that being an issue given my spur gears have already lost some teeth! I've got some metal spur gears being made by my buddy and metal diff gears and casing on the way to hopefully improve reliability. Thanks for the pointers though. I may just buy a new sleeve and piston and rebuild the current engine and see how we go. At least that way I will only be taking about £25 from my budget so if I do go for an upgrade later the money is still there.
  7. Hey guys, so I have an Acme attacker with a dead engine. It's not dead dead, but it's completely lost it's pinch, it's the SH.18 and so won't hold and idle when hot and then won't restart until cooled. Im looking into a few possibilities. im going to get a new sleeve and piston and give rebuilding it a go. I'm a qualified mechanic and motorsport engineer so this will be and exercise in familiarising myself with these engines more than a learning experience. Im then thinking of getting a second engine. i have a few im mind. the SH.12 pro looks alright for the money but finding one in uk stock is seemingly impossible, the HPI G3.0 is also tempting as is the hobao hyper 12. im quite open to suggestions on a new engine so if anyone has any pointers that would be great i have a hard budget of £170 this will have to include manifold (if rear exhaust) and a drill starter or starter box if non pull start. Thanks in advanc thom.
  8. Hey guys, I'm Thom, used to race mardaves way back when, more of a hobbyist now but may try and get back into it. Picked up an Acme cyclone pro recently which is my first foray into the world of nitro. There will be some questions to come at some point. thanks Thom
