  1. Hi all, Any reason why Deans couldn't be used between the motor and esc rather than the more common "bullet" connectors. My Speed motor is "hard wired" straight to the esc and I'd rather have a connection so that removing the rear end doesn'y leave it dangling. Any preference for their orientation - male on the motor side or vice versa? Thoughts and advice greatly appreciated, as always. Thanks in advance. Neil
  2. Thanks for all the info in your answers. Just ordered this from Blind Batteries, with clear wrap and a female Deans plug, and will let you know how I get on. What are IB batteries, not seem them on Blind Batteries, United RC or Cheapbatterypacks.com I read that the stock esc will handle 8.4V but the stock motor wouldn't last too long, so I went with 7.2V. Thanks again for all your help.
  3. bb2120, thanks for the reply. Interesting about the wire. Too big Physically.....? If not, how? IB1400 better than GP1300? Where would you recommend buying that can supply with female Deans plug? Thanks again.
  4. Thanks Allan, that was really helpful but has raised some other questions. Will a 6 cell 2200 battery give roughly twice the run time of a 6 cell 1100 pack? If so this would be worth the additional cost for me. Can a stock Losi Mini T esc handle 8.4 volts in a 7 cell pack - would this be a worthwhile exercise, assuming it was configured to fit, for increasing performance? What make of cells should I be looking for - what are the premium brands and are they worth the extra cost? How many charges should a battery last for before it dies if treated properly? Thanks again for your help.
  5. Hi all, It appears that my Peak Power 7.2v 1200 Nimhs are dying so I'm looking to get a couple of new packs. My question relates to "upgrades" offered by supplier with regard to wire thickness and plugs. I've got some Deans plugs which I was looking to use and understand that I should use the female on the battery end to avoid accidentally shorting the pack but what thickness of wire should I order and does it make a heap of difference? They offer 12-22Awg wire and I assume the higher the number, the thicker the wire, the better it is, but then should you not replace the wires from the ESC to the battery and motor with the same wires? Which would mean a change in electronics to accomplish this. Also, the higher the capacity of the battery the longer the run time - so 1400 better than 1200, but what is the highest capacity you can run with stock electrics, or is that only affected by the number of batteries i.e 7.2v 6 pack as opposed to a 6v 5 pack? I've seem 2200 offered at 7.2v this should give much better run times... Cheers in advance, Neil
  6. Got a Losi ball diff and slipper on their way. Already got Losi oil shocks. The battery was charged at 1 amp by a Ripmax Variopulse 2500 12/24v charger. No idea how old the batteries are - came with the truck off Ebay. Suggested UK retailer for the batteries? Cheers, and thanks again for the number and speed of replies.
  7. Thanks for the replies. I'll definitely check out www.rcmodelimports.com I'm certainly not looking at making a shelf queen - I'll only replace stuff that breaks. Alloy should be stronger than the plastic stuff....but if it's soft alloy then I'm not interested - hence the question about premium branded hop ups. I'd rather pay for quality. Buy cheap, buy twice! Can you chaps help with a battery question? I fast charged one of the battery packs - followed the instructions to the letter and it said full charge after about 7 minutes, so I thought it was just a top up charge. The pack lasted about 5 minutes of just running it round my lounge before it died. Should I try slow charging it over night or should I get another battery pack? If the latter, what brand, what capacity. Oh, and not "go lipo" suggestions - not yet. Cheers, Neil
  8. Hi all, First post on this site and new to RC after lusting after one for many years. Got a Mini T off Ebay about three weeks back which came with Baja body, oil shocks, ball bearings and a couple of 7.2V Peak Power 1200 Ni-Mh packs. I love it but I'm finding it difficult to source hop up bits from anywhere other than E-Bay or the States. Any thoughts, good UK based sources as import duty from the US cancels much of the price saving of a weak dollar? Also are people like 3 Racing, GPM, K factory and Topcad all much of a muchness in the alloy hop up market? It seems that MIP and Fullforce, along with Losi are the premium parts providers.... Thoughts, tips and advice all very welcome as I'm just so new to all this, but I'm loving it all so far. Cheers, Neil
