  1. I can certainly test it with a multimeter, but it' has 4 contacts so I'm not sure how best to test it. It is a lipo. I'll put up a pic when I get home later
  2. I went to use my GT3C for the first time in quite some while only to find it wouldn't turn on. I put it on charge, gave it a bit of time and it switched on fine. However, when I unplugged the charging lead it switched off. It seems that it's not working at all from the battery, but will work if I have the charger plugged in. I gave it a test using a USB power bank plugged in and that worked fine but obviously is not ideal. There don't appear to be any physical signs of the battery having died, no swelling or corrosion etc but it just doesn't seem to be doing anything. Is it likely to just be that the battery is dead or is it possible there's an issue with the charging circuit or something? How best to check if the battery is dead?
  3. You dissing my garden. Grrr! Those HK bashers do look good but way over budget... Sadly.
  4. Shame they're so expensive and not what I'm looking for...
  5. It's more the size of vehicle thats the issue, both my amp abd fughter buggy handle the grass ok it's just that I want something smaller to make the most of the area I have available as a track
  6. I saw mention on a youtube comment of a WL-Toys A959 which after a bit of looking baout i've found more about, looks like it might fit the bill 4WD 2.4GH RC car Buggy style 1/18 Scale suitable for indoor and outdoor control Four-wheel independent suspension With Proportional Steering function 100 metre control distance and only £54 Also seems to run quite nicely on grass https://youtu.be/7mbRq29QhrE
  7. if money was no object then maybe but that would cost a fortune...oh and I do want it as a usable garden too
  8. That's my thought, the grass probably is too much for little vehicles which is a shame, as the space I have would make for a fun track for smaller vehicles. I'd need something that could be set up nice and quickly else my little boy will have lost interest before we even started driving. Not sure on the strips of carpet idea ,it sounds like a good plan but then I'd have to factor in setup time and storage etc though as you say would make for better surface for smaller vehicles.
  9. My garden is a bit of a funny one as it's an unusual shape but there is a reasonable amount of room... (pic attached...couldn'tg et it to upload where i normally would so hopefully it'll work..)
  10. I quite like the look of the Helion Animus SC and a good price too. Can't quite tell from the pics, is that a normal tamiya sort of size battery or is it smaller? What do you run this on in the garden? Would it be ok on a normal uk lawn?
  11. Hi All Having resurrected my age old Tamiya 1/10 buggy and gotten myself and my son a couple of 1/10 trucks, I was looking into the possibility of setting up a track in my garden for us to have a bit of a race around together but I think it might be a bit of a struggle with the size of the vehicles as my garden isn't huge, so now I'm looking at the possibility of getting something smaller to which will be better to use in the space but would be able to run well over grass which I'll keep as short as I can over the summer. I don't want to be spending huge amounts as I'll need to save up and buy two, (maybe £150 all in for both would be good...) but I don't really know where to start or what's about, does anyone have nay suggestions of what's about and might be suitable?
  12. Oh dear, I must be tired today, didn't think of that, thank you!! lol
  13. Only reason I was looking at a set really was for the cost saving and when wanting a few different options. Those RW ones look a little different to the one I've currently got on there ?
  14. I'm definitely going to give the gearing a try but I'm struggling to find a pinion gear set that would give me enough options. Most seem to be in the 20 tooth range, ideally I'm looking for something like 15t to 20t or so but can't find any sets (well actually no that'd not true, hobbyking have a set but it's out of stock.. Grrr) Can anyone point me in the right direction for a decent set?
  15. I guess this could have been part of the issue, I've since reset it, so hopefully ok now I had run the motor in for a good few minutes running it slowly using the throttle trim as suggested by others on here. I was running on concrete for the most part, with a little driving over grass verges. I've seen this sort of thing mentioned a good few times re 15t motors (including in this thread!) True, this is only really a monster truck in name, it's far more like a stadium truck in reality. I wasn't so much blaming the Lipo as just having been disappointed with the results. I've been running the 18t motor with the Lipo, and although it's getting hotter than it did in my other car with the nimh it is certainly lively!! I'm guessing your gearing must have quite an influence on the temps though I'm struggling to get my head round gearing really. I'm going to keep an eye on the temps of my 18t while using the Lipo and go from there I think. Depending on what I see I might have to look at changing the gearing a little though that confuses me a bit as the more I've read the more confusing it's all become...lol
  16. If I run the 18t in lipo but geared down, won't I then pretty much be losing the benefits I had gained from moving to the faster motor? Or do you think the extra performance from the Lipo would mean the performance was much the same even with the gearing down?
  17. I think I've probably had about 40 minutes or so from the 15t... before it died, and that's in total over a handful of runs, none of which were very long at all. I might call the place I got the motor from and see about getting it replaced if possible, or maybe try one more as it was only about £7. Maybe at some point i'll try one of the cheap chinese goolrc brushless setups, though most of the brushless videos I see make the cars look more annoying than anything, with constant wheelies and the like...
  18. The 18t has been running fine using nimh for really long runs, best part of an hour and barely even getting warm, a couple of minutes with the lipo and it's hot. How do you mean sealed, they're non-rebuildable if that's what you mean. Pretty much every review I've read/watched of the Amp MT has said to stick a 2s lipo in to bring it to life oin the stock 20t motor and they've been fine, severalothers have used 2s on 15t motors and not had a problem. I could have understood if I'd been running on long grass or something but I wasn't it was running on concrete... Maybe I'll just stick the 20t motor in and see how it goes with the Lipo, or just forget about the lipo and stick with the 18t and nimh which seemed to be working fine. Didn't really want a huge amount more speed just a bit of a step up.
  19. I guess that makes sense but why would the 18t motor that has been barely warm running for best part of an hour be getting hot after just a few minutes (not even 5) though, surely the lipo isn't going to be making it run that much quicker is it? Also I've seen a lot of other people running 15t motors with 2s lipos in the amp mt and not had any problems, not sure why mine has just completely died.
  20. That's the sort of experience I was hoping for but if you've read my first post you'll see that's not what's happened
  21. The esc is the stock one rated to 15t and several people have used it with lipo. It doesn't have a cut off but I've been using a low voltage alarm. Motor was an absima eco thrust 15t. Now using an Absima Eco thrust 18t which I've been using in my Fighter Buggy since xmas and has been barely getting wram abfter the best part of an hour
  22. it's 5200mah 2s 30C, as recommended to me by a few people. Balance charging it at 1c with a generic Lipo charger.
  23. After lots of reading up and people extolling the virtues of moving to LiPo batteries I decided to give it a try in my new MT with an Absima 15t motor, which I have only run a handful of times and not for full packs as I've not had time or it's been foul weather.Having read loads saying with LiPo it'd be punchier off the line and quicker and much better run times I was excited to try it, so I took it out to day with the freshly charged LiPo and yes it was punchy and quicker, however I had to stop after a a few minutes to let everything cool down as the motor was getting really hot. After it cooled down I gave it another run and again it was great but still getting really hot. I decided I needed to get on with a few bits round the house and left the car for a good couple of hours. I then decided to give the car another go and do a couple of runs to see if it was any faster than the 25 mph I clocked it at with the 15t and a NiMH battery. To my surprise it only hit 19mph... the same as my son's MT with an 18t motor using a NiMH battery. It still felt punchier off the line and was driving nicely...and then it stopped. The motor was quite hot but not finger burningly so but it just didn't drive. I still had steering.A bit of swapping about and tinkering later with one of my other cars and it seems the motor has died on me. I've now swapped it out with an Absima 18t which I've been running in my old Tamiya Fighter Buggy since Xmas and have run for long periods (two 3500mah NiMH packs each getting about 30-40mins) and it's barely even gotten warm to the touch.About 5 minutes with the LiPo battery and it's getting hot.So now I'm not sure what to do, should I be dropping the pinion a tooth or two to bring the temperatures down? If so, does that not defeat the point of upgrading the motor to a faster one and indeed the battery to a LiPo?
  24. That's a very good point actually, You're probably right my fears are unfounded! Anyway, battery is on the way so soon I'll see what all the LiPo fuss is about!!
  25. Charger is on the way I'm just slightly wary because I have had water pool in the battery tray in my car which I fear might short the exposed terminal tubes (if they're ones that go all the way through which I believe some are aren't they? Anyway, I've ordered up battery and bits and will soon be one of those LiPo people... lol
