  1. but... the s50 gearbox has exactly the same "under rated/not up to the job" part fitted, I have worked out that it's the one way roller bearing that is the part that causes the issues with this gearbox, when the bearing becomes worn and the shaft equally becomes worn there is too much play between shaft and needles and the roller needles can move too far causing the spring behind to pop out of its seat, which in turn jams the bearing solid in the wrong turning direction thus stripping all the teeth as the truck momentum continues. A new shaft and new bearing (not the cheap one) and this is all good again.
  2. Hi again all mad bashers... since ownership of this truck I have had a few problems and still do... at first the slipper gear and pegs melted, (too loose) so I replaced them... It lasted for a few runs and then stripped all the teeth off the first gear in the box, I manged to find some gears at an amazing cost of 1.99 so I bought 2 at that price, they arrived today so I rebuilt the box only to find it just sat there and revved with no drive, I have established that it is the one way bearing that is faulty... I have tried to clean it and it sort of works but every now and then it locks up in the direction it's not supposed too... I can therefore 'assume' this was the cause of the teeth stripping. so... I now need a new one way bearing and from what I have been reading I should replace the shaft too as they wear down equally accordingly! however, I can't find any in the UK (I hate ordering from abroad as I always seem to get stung with taxes), does anyone have any ideas where to purchase said parts please (please-please-please ) I have found some...no panic...not cheap though this time! also found the pin holding the steel gear on the 2 speed shaft had snapped twice... i slid the gear down and the pin bits fell out leaving a bit inside the shaft, seems to be ongoing this!!! ...so is there anything else anyone can think of that I am likely to need to replace in the gearbox
  3. cheers... the 15mm click on pipe clips fit around the shock bodies too... cheap shock upgrade
  4. I can't seem to get one anywhere near me, closest model shop is 10 miles away so it would end up costing just under 20 quid to get hold of one... so off to the garage and a bit of a potter, I managed to make my own... 1 15mm copper elbow from the plumbing box, 3 inches of garden hose pipe, 1 wire tap gauze filter, 1 radiator roller sponge, 1 rubber o ring, I will have to cable tie it to the anti roll bar/handle to avoid it coming off due to the now 90 deg. angle. total cost £0.00 due to having said parts knocking around
  5. I was going to once i had a replacement, however I took it out for a damn hard thrashing today... big jumps and at some point the filter decided to leave home never to be seen again so we can consider that done @Kulataz Thanks for the offer but money is tight at the moment ...the mrs had a go at me for buying 1 so close to xmas (1 week before) never mind a 2nd one, despite the fact I would love to have another. I'm becoming an old man now but all through my childhood the one thing I wanted was one of these trucks... needless to say I never had one, so when one came up I snatched it off him... I'm having so much fun with this truck, makes me feel 18 again (ROLMAO). Tried it on sand, gravel and muddy/grass... so much more fun in the mud but there isn't many places to have fun around here, shame the only dedicated track is near Newport. Took some video's when we were out... will post em up later if anyone is interested.
  6. awesome photo (thank you). Is the s50 box slightly longer and therefore will it need a shorter shaft? (looks like in the link from above...http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/uploads/med_gallery_29013_2646_564674.jpg)
  7. Thank you greatly for the guidance in the right direction, I did read about the metal caps somewhere too. took her out for a blast again today, it was so wet and the grass was so long that it didn't take long to start to bogged down and then never left 1st gear, have a funny feeling the K&N air filter is to blame (only non standard part fitted). might make an anti wet cover for the filter to avoid. The fuel is so not cheap !!! been looking into maybe changing the engine to a petrol... have an old 4stroke lawn mower out the back... hmmm LOL
  8. Hi all, I'm glad to find this tiny corner of the web, another mta4 s28 monster owner looking for mod/upgrade info. Many owners left?
  9. BUMP... Hi all, thought I would bring this topic back to life... after all, some of us still have these and they are still going strong (despite the design flaws). My s28 gearbox bearings have play which allows the shaft to wobble, which in turn messes up the mesh between the gears thus resulting in gear tooth shredding, these fact that the s50 has a third bearing at the end highlights the design flaw on the s28, too much force on the front gearbox bearing causes the problem mainly due to the fact the shaft is not balanced, this got me thinking... how can one re-design this. Looking at the s50 they introduced the 3rd outer bearing which would balance the shaft load over the 3 bearings equally. Has anyone else upgraded or modify the gearbox? I can't find a %100 'how to' just dribs and drabs on the subject.
