  1. Like it. Then as you drive off this will hopefully put the flames out. Job done.
  2. I thought about a blow torch but wasn't sure. what are peoples thoughts on this? I worried about melting most of the car and being left with a nice warm engine all on it's own!
  3. I know it's not ideal, not very portable if I need a car to use it! I have already noticed how quickly these engines cool down (I am new to nitro) I left the car for 5 mins after a run and it wouldn't start, had to use the heater again, so it won't be very good if I let cool the car cool too much in the middle of a field, will have to go back to the car to start it. It will do for now.
  4. Here are the pics of what I made, not my idea by the way, I got some ideas off the web. Works a treat, 5 mins of heat was good for a first time start from cold. When I get chance I will see if this time will reduce at all. By the way it's a 55w bulb. I was going to make an improved version when I proved it worked, I cut the tin a bit short, and I thought about wrapping exhaust heat wrap around it, but it worked that well I don't think I need to bother. Ok, how do I add pictures?
  5. Bloody hell it worked! You may or may not know about the starting problems I have been having, anyway, just put my light bulb contraption on for about 7 mins and the car started on the second attempt. I will take some pics.
  6. Well just got it started second attempt after preheating the engine. looks like this is the way forward. Thanks everybody.
  7. Good thinking! I will take some pics and try and put them on later. more importantly I will give it a go and see if it works, hopefully I will be able to start the bloody thing!
  8. Hi chaps, just a quick one, I have thrown together some bits to make an engine preheater (sweetcorn tin with a hole and a H7 bulb inside, to a cigarette lighter plug so I can use it in the car when I am out). Not sure how successful it will be but I had all the bits lying around so hasn't cost me anything. The bulb sits inside the head nicely (it is the long thin type) and I am just wondering if I should remove the glow plug when preheating? Cheers.
  9. I live on the Wirral, I work with a couple of people who are big into nitro rc cars but are on the opposite shift to me, but I have arranged to meet up so hopefully they will sort it out, one of them races all over Europe so I think he knows his stuff. Anyway, I will get the hairdryer out again and give it another go. Thanks everybody.
  10. Yes. I am blowing down the exhaust pressure line. Everything is fully charged. Tried different glow plugs. Got 2 glow starters. Hopefully it is just not run in yet. Worst case scenario I suppose is the previous owners didn't bother with the break in process and the engine is knackered. It sounded OK though when I did get it running.
  11. Tried that mate, even that didn't help, was still quite hard to pull even with glow plug out half a turn.
  12. Thanks for the replies, I suppose I could heat it up then quickly get to a field, will probably still be a bit warm! I will get a few tanks of fuel through it first in the garden. I hope it gets easier to start, my fingers are getting sore in this cold weather, I have just spent an hour and a half on a field with not one start, should have gone electric!!
  13. Hi everybody. I have just bought a hardly used xtm monster mt (mixed reviews I know!), I am new to the world of nitro and was wondering if I can break the engine in on a pit stand I have made for the car, or does it need a proper run? The reason for this is I don't think the engine has been run in yet so it is a nightmare to start, the only time I have managed to start it is after warming it up with a hairdryer, but I can't do this if I take it out to a field! I have checked the obvious, and read the manual, and read through this forum, so I am pretty confident it just needs breaking in. Thanks.
