  1. Yeh I have a brushless set up that as long as it stays dry needs, as you say, no maintenance.
  2. I thought the ESC rating went down TO 15T..so 12T would be out of it's limits? Or am I being daft? EDIT: Yep, daft as a brush..You meant the ESC. D'oh.
  3. Ah thanks..I didn't know it had that effect on runtimes. So I learnt something today Yeh it's a HPI SC-15WP..a 15T limit I think.
  4. Would I see much of an improvement going from a 27T Saturn motor to a 15T Firebolt?
  5. Ok, just to paint the picture..my sons fine with speed and two wheel drive..he just had my old xxxt with a 9t brushless upgrade with a 7 cell nimh and he was getting 40+mph no problem. We put some Smasher tyres on it and added a gyro so he could go more offroad but 2wd has limitations and is - for a seven year old at least - harder to drive and easier to get stuck. I have a tmaxx and the losi couldn't cut-it when we went out together as it was constantly getting bogged down/stranded in wet muddy stuff or long grass etc or we'd be worried about breaking it when bashing. The
  6. Sorry to ask..but.. I'm just about to buy a new car it comes with a nimh battery but is 2s Lipo compatible. I have a battery I THINK is good (never bought Lipo before so if anyone has a better suggestion please chime in): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FLOUREON-2S-30C-7-4V-5200mAh-Lipo-RC-Battery-For-RC-Car-Buggy-Truck-Truggy-Hobby-/231336945059?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35dcc1a5a3 Can I get a recommendation for a charger. I only need to charge this one battery at a time at the moment so I don't need anything too fancy I just want something safe and reliable. Thanks
  7. I like the Wheely King...can't find the brushless version though.
  8. Thanks for the opinion. Not too interested in the flux as it's 2wd. I'll keep looking around as only have ~
  9. Was going to get one of these for my seven year old..what's the general opinion on this please guys. http://www.modelsport.co.uk/ftx-carnage-1-10-4wd-brushless-truggy-rtr-waterproof/rc-car-products/40397 Thanks
  10. I'm open to reasonable offers or a swap for something electric my son can bash at the local forests/tracks...preferably RTR but radio gear isn't too important.
  11. My eBay ad - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151664837218?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Took my T Maxx out the other day, the conrod failed and took the piston with it. The sleeve looks undamaged but I'm not sure I can replace the piston without replacing the sleeve due to mating of the two. Up to this point the car has been well maintained and has always run great from brand new in 2008. You don't need me to tell you how fast or powerful these 3.3 TRX engines are..this car will when tuned right wheelie as long as you can keep your 'foot' down and will hit 40mph+ on almost any surface. Amazing fun and hugely satisfying...The upgraded rear end with the firmer springs, true track kit and heavier oil really gets rid of that saggy TMaxx feel meaning you can run a lower centre of gravity for massively improved handling and responsiveness - stopping it flipping over in corners at speed and also makes it capable of bigger. longer jumps. This car is great for bashing and tough too, I've only ever broken a arms before now. The car has had some recent upgrades and new parts prior to one failed run including...head protector, high quality silicone fuel lines, fuel filter, fuel cooler, HSP throttle servo failsafe, RPM truetrack kit, RPM rear shock tower, RPM rear body mounts, glow plug, all rubber seals and clips recently replaced, cable harness, four shock springs, shock oil, digital steering servo, new 2.4ghz radio gear and a new air filter to get this ready for summer but I can't afford to spend any more money on this unfortunately. All the above parts have had next to no use, maybe a few hours at the most. Diffs, tranny, brakes etc all in very good condition and well maintained. Clutch, bell, carb etc and other engine parts all in good condition. Failed parts included. The engine has been given after run oil and is in a sealy bag to prevent any moisture getting to it before it can be rebuilt. The parts required to get this back in full working order are available here for about
  12. I replaced the locked plastic diff in my Losi Speed-T with the RRP kit - balls and metal gears. When I built the diff it turns nicely, freely..but as soon as I try to snug the screw up enough to stop the diff gear spinning independently, the whole diff begins to lock up and makes a real grinding noise - as if the two diff cups aren't able to spin freely on the balls. I've tried to reassemble a few times but get the same result. Anyone else with this?
  13. I only recently got back into RCs after a 20-25 year break and the first mistakes I made were buying cars that were older due to their attractive purchase price..I quickly learnt that was a mistake as soon as I broke something. A spur gear was only available from the States, with a ridiculous shipping cost and worked out as much as I paid for the car, then a diff had to be fixed - again expensive. So in two breakages I spent well over the cost of the whole car. It broke again and is now sat in limbo as it would make more sense for me to buy a newer car with aftermarket support and easily available spares.
  14. I have an old Losi Speed-T. Getting parts is like eating glass. I need a new spur gear - gear =
  15. If you had an established club, with recognised use of land, that could have been a different matter, but just turning up somewhere and messing around isn't the basis for a valid argument. I thought you said in your first post you just bash there with no club - if anything that would give more grounds for complaint as no club has had to apply for a permit to use the grounds having to go through the various documentation and applications involved in getting permissions and assessing possible disturbance. People cannot stop me from doing my hobby on that land provided that it doesn't go into nuisance. Yes they can - indirectly using noise, disturbance and loitering laws..hell, if they wanted to they could go down the route of pollution harming the environment due to using nitro as I believe the marshes are a conservation area. Turbofall have you ever been to the hackney marshes? Do you know how big it is and what the marsh is surrounded with before making a counter argument The conclusion is simples, the council is doing a blanket ban as Tug stated earlier on which is extremely unreasonable without a good reason and 2, brings a great frustration to us rc hobbyists despite we being respectful, listening and considerate on when to run these RCS. Yes they are and this is a perfect example of the confrontations that a 'blanket' law will protect people that DON'T want to hear your nitro for hours on end. It really is pointless to get het up about it - just go somewhere else.
  16. Just make sure you start with a base that will still have support/spares once you're done..you don't want to end up with a finished car in a year/eighteen months to realise you can't replace parts when you break them. I made this mistake with my first cars as I didn't have a lot of money to buy cars for myself and my kids..I got a couple cheap Losi's and now I'm looking at the same price to replace an a arm as I paid for the whole car
  17. Yep...we all do it...when the missus is out anyway
  18. Anti-social and disturbance laws have changed a lot over the past few years and are changing as we speak. Due to over population and people in each others pockets many new laws are being put into place to keep the general public happy/in order...nitro bashers are not the general public therefore you will not have the same rights as others due to the fact that the noise of a nitro car is loud and like it or not ****ing annoying. You can argue the toss with me about your rights or having somewhere to go or how you're not doing any harm etc etc etc or you can try the old this isn't a vehicle/ I have as much right blah blah but you will be told to move on, you will not win a challenge by the council/authorities/police because in their eyes you are causing a disturbance and all they need to prop that claim up is a noise complaint or two. Your cars can be seized and can be destroyed - just like when those irritating mini/pit bikes where are huge craze. This is what you have to do - turn off your car, pick it up and go somewhere else. Simple. Every time people complain, then the rc driver kicks up a fuss it just gives the authorities a reason to look into making proper laws and bylaws to cover the use of cars - i.e: signs that will say "no use of radio control vehicles in this area at any time"..get my point. This is exactly the reason I have a TRX 3.3 that rarely gets used...maybe once a month..but I have brushless cars that go out everyday - a simple case of putting others before yourself saves a shed load of hassle. The people you argued with - will be keeping an extra ear and eye out for you from now on and will happily complain the second you start your car just to p*ss you off. Take it from me, it's a lot easier to find somewhere else to go.
  19. Had a few cans needing to be used up so this got a blast of purple and black in the same coat and a little squirt of silver for no good reason other than I thought it'd look cool I'm not gonna bother with fitting working lights - this is a nitro and I'll never drive it at night, also my time, budget and space is limited. It's gonna be for bashing so I'm not going all out.
  20. Nice. We have quite a few car boot sales round my way so this summer I'll be looking out for something....original..for my next project shell for my nippers Losi
  21. Finally got a chance to do some work on the shell today. Got it JB'd together, got the first pass of filling and sanding done and chucked a bit of primer on it before the heavens opened again. Next session I'll get the filling and sanding done and try to figure out what body work needs to be done..first the ugly bulge I've created in the bonnet/spotlight thingy..it's tempting to cut it out, fill it and sand it to a better shape, but I think I'm gonna have to put up with it as one head-on smash will just break that piece of filling. I need to figure out cutting out light lenses and fitting buckets for the head/brake lights, I need to decide whether or not to add flared arches over the wheels (probably not cos I'm lazy).
