  1. Still in Leyland but now running a Savage Flux, a savage XS and got and old tamiya buggy and a lunchbox That London rd bmx track sounds fun, might give that a try soon.
  2. For reference I added weight tape to mine and they weigh 200g front and 160g rear.
  3. Are your endpoints adjusted so the servo isn't working against steering after it hits full lock? The scout has poor lock which makes matters worse. You can cut a bit off the inside of the hubs to gain a tad more steering throw.
  4. Get yourself a decent charger (overlander) and a couple of 2s 5000mah lipos, and you'll be amazed at the difference. Gens ace lipos (giantahark.co.UK) come with deans connectors.
  5. ^^^^^^ this A rock crawler is good backyard fun, the scout is a corker for the money and the modification possibilities are endless.
  6. Hi all Just having a clearout, so up for sale is an XL-5 esc and titan 12t motor which came out of my 2wd Slash. Not sure how much run time the motor had because I bought the truck second hand then put a brushless combo in it, but the motor seemed to run fine when it was removed, likewise the ESC which still has the traxxas style connector on it. Asking
  7. As title suggests, my nexus 7 first generation 16GB tablet with a basic case is for sale. It's served me well and is only going because work have just provided me with a second gen model. This one is running Android 4.4.4 It's in great condition, I can't find any blemishes or scratches on it, and it comes in the original box including the cables which are still untouched in their plastic bags! Ignore the Swiss army knife, it's just too cover up a label with my name / email / phone number which I'll obviously remove before posting! Please pm me with any questions. No lowballing please, it's not worth me seeking it for less than this.
  8. 2wd would be easier for a novice to work on, as it's simpler mechanically. However depending on the surface you're likely to be using it on, it may not be the best choice. Loose dry dirt surfaces are where it works best. 4wd is a bit more of a learning curve but worth it. Much more traction on all surface types, and will generally keep moving when 2wd has given up / beached itself. That said, I had a volition and it was great, handled well and was quite fast on the brushed motor with 2s lipo. If you're willing to do a bit of trading upwards as you progress I would say the volition is a good start, or a firestorm for that matter. You can then either fit a brushless setup when you want more speed (and you will!) or sell it on and buy a brushless or 4wd depending on what direction you want to go. I've ' been there done that' and now have a HPI savage flux hp as my main truck. It would have been flat out too complex an RC for me if I hadn't learned what I did with the volition and the traxxas slash that followed it.
  9. I thought the Lunchbox could do with some lights I'm considering doing the 5th shock mod after noticing how the whole rear axle and motor twists back far enough to hit the shock every time you apply some throttle...
  10. Would that servo be suitable for a Lunchbox? If so I'll take one please.
  11. Been a while since I made any changes to the scout, it didn't get any use after I bought a savage flux... then a savage xs ....then built a lunch box... As I started to get withdrawals recently I decided to sort the scout out. I lowered the body because I was never happy with the way it sat, and that meant a four bit of trimming around the arches. Then I decided it was time to move the links inboard so to do that I fabricated a couple of braces out of 6mm ally that pull the chassis in nice and tight. Next job week be to solder a dean's connector on the esc. Seems to get hung up less now because the outboard links would drag on rocks quite easily.
  12. Trip finished, it was EPIC. Links to the trip blog write-ups below. Photo heavy. First Day in Hanoi... Day 1 - Hanoi to Ba Be Lake Day 2 - Ba Be Lake to Quang Uyen Day 3 - Quang Uyen to Ban Gioc to Cao Bang Day 4 - Cao Bang to Bao Lac Day 5 - Bao Lac to Dongvan Day 6 - Dongvan to Ha Giang Day 7 - Ha Giang to Lau Cai Some teaser photos for ya...
  13. Ok, at least it's not just mine then! Is there a decent servo upgrade which might haul the tyres a bit better? I'm on a 15 year old servo that was previously controlling the MSC in my Tamiya buggy!
  14. I've got an old Acoms in there, don't know the rating but I do find on level ground if I steer one way or the other at a standstill only the inside wheel seems to turn much. The other does turn a little but not much. Turn it the other direction and it's the opposite if that makes sense? I guess it's due to slack in the steering design but I wondered if it was the servo, or if there's a known mod to improve it? I'm just running the stock plastic beige servo saver. It's not a big issue since lunchy seems to just go whichever direction he feels like anyway!
  15. Well, not sure how long it's been out but I've been down this same path recently - although for on-bike footage of a bike trip we're doing through vietnam as mentioned in The Lounge. Thread here: http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/topic/204628-ot-motorbike-trip-around-north-vietnam/ First I got a cheap 'action cam' - one of these to be precise: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006MU6E3E/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_zbc5ub0898KD9 I named it the NoPro. The quality wasn't good and you can't remove the date-time stamp from the footage. I actually got my money back on it and they didn't ask for it to be returned. It would make a good dashcam in the car and I suspect that's more what it was designed for. Then I borrowed my brothers old GoPro 2 and got on with it. But he wasn't keen on me taking that halfway round the world and strapping it to a motorbike. Then I looked at how much gopro's were going for on ebay and brand new. Turns out they brought out a base model 'hero' a few months ago which costs much less but still does what many people need. I have only skimmed the thread above but I haven't seen anyone mention this. Anyway, I wandered into Currys and got one for he same price they go for online everywhere -
  16. Better handling, didn't grip roll, it was faster, torquier, larger, the stock tyres actually gripper, it was nicer to work on, and more fun. On the flip side the slash had a far better servo, shocks and parts availability.
  17. I liked mine, preferred it over the slash.
  18. What gremlins? Just curious. Aside from a bit of pinion wear, and wheel & clutch nuts coming loose (replaced with new and been fine since) my HP has been reliable. Nothing broke yet in 20 packs, and it gets run on 6s regularly.
  19. Cool I just noticed the post said 36 days, we actually fly out this Friday.
  20. They are loud. Once the slack is out of the drivetrain when they're moving they sound a bit healthier. Even my savage xs is quite loud. Wait til it's on 6s with trenchers...!
  21. Top job once again I honestly don't know how you can be so patient, I'm the impatient type and I find it hard to slow down and do something properly. The thing with rotating the motor/gearbox on the scout is it moves the motor higher up, and the motor's one of the heaviest components in it. As it is, it's an ok compromise. If it's possible to buy axles suitable for a crawler, where the motor can be mounted directly on the axle like the super class seem to, I think I could build the rest of the chassis. Maybe that's a summer project.
  22. Yep bez, insurance is a minefield, we're only on 125's anyway, you don't need anything bigger really over there. We used post office insurance in the past but they've changed the policy so you're not covered for personal accident. In the end I got a good policy from carole nash which is aimed at this type of trip. If you want to see pics from the first trip, I did a thread here with them on: http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=33441
  23. Hi all Posting this up since I think we have a few bikers and fans of travel on the forum Last year some friends and I did a motorbike trip around North west vietnam. We are heading back late next week for another 2 week tour of the North East. We did this trip on 40 year old Russian Minsks. I set up a blog (linky below) in advance. I've tried to get it rolling with some useful prep info for now, but while we're away I'll endeavour to update it at the end of each day. It would be great if any of you followed the trip, and comments are always welcome. http://nambusters.blogspot.co.uk/ There are also some photos from the first trip on the blog. In a nutshell, we'll be heading north/north east from Hanoi up to the border with China, taking in the incredible Ban Gioc waterfall, then heading across the south east extremity of the Himalayas over several days. One of the roads we'll take in is the Ma Pi Leng Pass: But in general there will be a lot of riding at altitude, mountains and scenery. We're ditching the Minsks this time and using Honda XR150's :biggrin Since we're well off the beaten track with this trip, much of the time we'll be staying at home stays, which tend to be bamboo stilt houses where you sleep on a mat on the floor. We've got about 9 days until we fly out to Hanoi, I'll drop a note on here when the trips about to begin. I hope some of you will follow the trip, the scenery in Vietnam is epic and the blog will be photo-heavy.
