  3. I'm after some advice - I think my battery charger might be faulty? I purchased a Losi 8ight 2.0 T recently and it came with a Vector AC/DC NX85 battery charger. The chap hadn't used the kit for about a year, so when I tried to charge the receiver battery and after 4 hours it said it was still charging (1A charge, 1400mAh Losi 6v LOSB9951 Receiver) - I assumed the NiMH pack had given up the ghost. I bought all new batteries for the starter box and receiver and have been trying to charge them, but I seem to be having the same issue... No matter how long I leave the NX85 on for, the charge/ trickle light simply doesn't come on. The instruction manual suggests that the charging time for a discharged pack can be calculated by: Time (hours) = battery capacity (mAh) / charge rate (mA) x 1.2 So, if my receiver pack is 1600 mAh and my charge rate is set to 1.0A or 1000 mA... 1600 / 1000 x 1.2 = 1.92 or just less than 2 hours? I've put a multimeter across the positive and negative pins and it is providing around 7v. My NX85 has currently been charging my discharged 1600 mAh receiver pack for around 3 hours now and still no sign of it switching to trickle - Am I waaaay off here? Is there something I'm missing? Many thanks in advance for any advice you can offer
  4. Bit the bullet... Took the plunge... Losi 8ight 2.0 T is now in my posession Just gotta wait for the damn batteries to charge now
  5. Picked it up today The batteries are currently on charge
  6. I just realised that this might have been better posted in the Buggies, Truggies and Stadium section of the forum but both models are nitro. If a mod sees fit to move it, I apologise for not thinking before I started typing
  7. Been saving my hard earned pennies and I'm almost ready to buy my first truggy. Initially I was looking at a Traxxas T-Maxx, which evolved to an HPI Trophy Truggy, which evolved to a Hobao Hyper ST. I understand that the ST has been discontinued, and I've expanded my budget a little too. I have the following options: 1) Brand spanking new Hobao Hyper SS Truggy 2) 12 month old Losi 8ight 2.0 T in standard spec. From what I have read, the Losi can be raced with a few hop-ups but I doubt I will ever race (I'll probably never get to the point where I'm any good), I imagine it will be strictly bashing. If you gents had the choice, which would you choose and why? Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.
  8. Hi, I've posted this in the Introductions section, but I thought it might be a bit more relevant here. I'm looking to get into RC again after a looooooong layoff - My last RC was a Tamiya Monster Beetle that I built from scratch when I was a teen. I like the noise that nitro's make, and I'm not afraid of a bit of tinkering. While I'm sure a brushless with LiPo's is faster, it just doesn't sound right to me. I also like the truggy style, so... From what I've been reading, a Hobao Hyper ST is a pretty decent place to start. I may have the option of purchasing one of two in the not too distant future: 1) Hyper ST Pro with a Force 32 that's had approx 2.5l of fuel run through it and Spider diffs or 2) Hyper ST Pro with a brand new Losi 454 and pipe, again with Spider diffs Both are second hand, and I think I'd have to break the Losi in - Which I have no problem with. Are there any reasons why one engine would be better than the other? I have no interest in racing at this point, just hooning around off-road. Many thanks in advance for any input you can offer, and I look forward to asking many, many questions - After using the search button first, of course
  9. Hi, I live near Cardiff - Don't hold it against me though, I was born and raised in West Wales
  10. Thanks for the quick response! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251571642110?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT The cars are currently being sold as a job lot but if we can agree on a price, I might be able to get the chap to split out a full kit for me to get started.
  11. Hi, my name is Dean, I live in Wales. Looking to get back into RC after a looooooooooong layoff. When I was a teen I built my first Tamiya Monster Beetle, but traded and traded until eventually I was flying an F-14 Tomcat. Unfortunately we parted ways when it decided to head off into the sunset, never to be seen again. I'm looking to get into nitro as I don't mind a bit of tinkering and they sound great! My friend is going the brushless route, so I'm fairly certain he'll have more power with LiPo batteries but I'll have more than enough power to contend with. I've done a bunch of research and from what I can tell, a Hobao Hyper ST isn't a bad place to start (I like the truggy look) I may have the option of the following and I would very much like some expert advice: 1) Hyper ST Pro with a Force 32 that's had approx 2.5l of fuel run through it and Spider diffs or 2) Hyper ST Pro with a brand new Losi 454 and pipe, again with Spider diffs Both are second hand, and I think I'd have to break the Losi in - Which I have no problem with. Are there any reasons why one engine would be better than the other? I have no interest in racing at this point, just hooning around off-road. Many thanks in advance for any input you can offer, and I look forward to asking many, many questions - After using the search button first, of course
