  1. Ian, I remember when I jumped on this thread, I was a bit upset and angry..but you guys helped me in regards to that. So I guess maybe I can help you. Lets give this truck a go.....teething problems yes...HPI's fault maybe...I guess they didn't know how it was going to perform out in the real world. We all drive the truck differently, adjust the carb differently, accelerate aggressively stop hard....so its hard to pin point if the problem is us or the product. So I willing to give it another go, once mine is back full repaired, and see how we go....I guess I am seeing the good, instead of the bad. Good luck with yours to get it running. I have a spare CDI if you need one, and a spare timing sensor....lol I think I have all the spare parts..
  2. I have to say BABYLON...i am really starting to question myself about this truck. I thought new truck, maybe a few teething problems. But my problems have been as follows: broken timing sensor broken throttle servo broken exhaust manifold aerial pipe/tube broken from from battery box So not sure if you would call this bad luck or just a bad product!! In saying that if i didnt have any of these problems the truck does put a smile on my face, bust that is now becoming few & far between laughs!!
  3. More bad luck for me....slight oild leak, pulled it apart, huge crack on the exhaust manifold....NOT HAPPY..
  4. Was having a great day today, truck was shifting all gears.....than boom no brakes. Broke one of the disc's.....So no brakes.... Hmm seems like there is always something with this beast.
  5. Well I must say owning this truck has opened my eyes a little to petrol/nitro engines. I didn't really give much thought to it before I purchased it. I thought great new truck batteries, petrol and away you go......well not to be. I too have had my fair share of problems. But I am now learning a lot about tuning, tweaking and making the truck better from the help of these forums. To be honest if you said pull the engine out when I bought it I would say no way...but now with some good advice I have pulled it out twice for one reason or another. I am now just enjoying it as a hobby, so if things go bad, i'll simply fix it. Its like having a real car in the garage that needs some TLC. It has put a smile on my face, which is why I am into this hobby, so that's pretty much all I can ask. If you like the hobby buy one....they are awesome...just be ready for some ups & downs.
  6. No, i havnt changed the radio yet Ian....thought i would run the truck in get it going right, than swap it over..
  7. Hey Ian, Well funny you say that...I noticed today a lot of oil had leaked onto the engine. So I pulled the engine out, cleaned it and noticed the 2 screws that hold the exhaust on were quite lose. All tightened up and ready to run again.
  8. So the beast finally changed to 2nd gear today....but when it did it would stall and then re fire..must be my carb setting. It did make me smile when it changed gears. Gee the carb is hard to get right..
  9. So my truck is running OK. When i use slight acceleration its all good just cruisen along. If i pull the trigger hard it does bog down almost stall, than re fire. Must be the carb settings. Just not sure whether its the High or Low i need to play with..
  10. So I wrapped all my wires in Aliminium tape, and all good....my carb settings are still a bit to get right but will get there.....truck ran well, just need it to change to 2nd gear..
  11. I feel the Octane may have a mind of its own Ian!!! I may look at addid the Nitro Savage to my collection...or eevn the Traxxas stampede nitro...not sure
  12. Ok, thanks for that....I feel I would be a bit lost without your guys help!!
  13. Ian, i cant thank you enough for those pics...thats exactly what i needed. I am missing the rubber lug thats on the bar... Can i ask, when you turn your controller & throttle servo on, does the arm on the carb move to open the carb a little or is it closed? Also when you squeeze the controller does the carb arm open all the way as mine seems to have a little further to fully open. Maybe because i am missing that lug.. When everything is off is the carb arm fully closed? Again Ian thansk for your help..
  14. Hi Ian, Can you do me a favour? I think when I reinstalled my throttle servo I am missing a clear rubber lug that goes on the small rod from the servo to the carb arm. Is there anyway you could take a photo of your throttle linkage set up and post up so I can see the standard set up? Cheers Dave
  15. Hey Ian, good idea I will use a spray bottle.... Nah I havnt used the truck since the steering issue on the weekend. My radio arrives in a few days. So this weekend coming I will give it a good clean, re-bundle & tape up all the wires & install the new receiver & radio.
  16. Guys, can i ask how does everyone clean their Trucks? After running mine a little on the weekend the whole truck is well quite muddy. Is it safe to hose it down with water if i cover the engine, or is it better to wait for the mud to dry and try & brush it off... Any ideas would help..
  17. Ok ill re bundle everything and give that a go....sounds exactly what its doing, as strange that I had full left turn and a bit a straight steering but NO right steering, so to me it did feel like very bad interference... Thanks again Ian, I will let you know my outcome.. Dave
  18. Hi Ian, It did seem like interference, as steering servo and throttle were jumpy and twitchy if that makes sense..Ok thanks for that advice...yes I did unbundle them and just pushed them well jammed them all back into the box...does look like a mess in there so you think this could be the problem? If I do change the steering servo to a savox one would this fix the problem also? I am also going to change my radio to a Spektrum and a new receiver. Do you think the CDI black wire will still interfere? Thanks David
  19. Al I have just bought a standard HPI throttle off ebay and I will see if it is the savox...maybe if I replace the steering with a savox this may help? Tug what do you mean Trim ends-point back?
  20. So I took the truck out this weekend...started great idled than took off I me steering was all over the place. I just replaced the throttle servo with a metal gear savox servo. So still using the standard HPI steering servo and it now seems this is playing up. Could the savox throttle servo be clashing with the receiver? not sure. When I turn the steering battery on its fine steering all good. Turn the throttle on still all god. Start the truck put it down to try and drive it and than my steering is like locked in a hard left. Sometimes goes straight but will not turn right. Could my steering servo now be going? Batteries are fully charged also. Any help would be great. Cheers Dave
  21. So the update is ALL GOOD!! I replaced my timing sensor with a new one and all good plenty of spark started first pull. Got the idle right and gave it a few runs up and down my driveway...neighbours were out so all good. But very happy with the truck now...Just need to run some tanks through and start the tuning process!! Thanks all for the advice and help..
  22. Ian, So I got a new timing sensor which it may be. I am removing the engine this weekend. Any tips on removing it or more so in putting it back together? Cheers David
  23. Ok guys the update is as follows.. I have done 5 out of the 7 tests sent out from HPI. My ignition system is fine, plenty of spark and snap using test leads. But when its plugged back into the timing sensor...nothing dead as. So its either the timing sensor or the flywheel magnet. Not much else it could be....just have to pull the engine out...not too excited about that but wish me luck..
  24. Cheers guys, ill give these a go..ill keep you all posted..
