  1. Hi all, my new mta s28 is having issues, one of wich are the 4 tiny allen bolts that hold the dual start system on. 1 came loose on first run, attempted to tighten and it refused to tighten and just spun. 2nd did the same now.. thinking ahead, just thought id go round and check everything etc and the two remaining nuts on the starter have come loose and wont tighten either. They nip slightly but thats it. Pulling the system away from tye engine there is a tiny amount of movemebt in the unit. Not sure what to do next! If i buy replacement allen bolts, i think they are most likely to just spin and not tighten up. What should i do? Thanks in advance!
  2. In preperation for tomorrow, ive re-adjusted both hsn and lsn. Closing both and adjusting. Hsn is now 4 turns out from closed so should run fairly rich. Lsn is 6 and half turns as the book says. The screw for the lsn is sitting proud of the rubber gromit however i do think these settings will be about right as the hsn is ever so slight proud of the brass body. If it fails to start etc i can simply lean them out slightly until starts and go from there. I jnderstand about being 'just off rich' and leaning a little further until it sounds great and runs fine throughout including idle. If the engine runs well, pulls well throughout rev range etc idles for a few minutes correctly and drops correctly as it should aftee higher rpm use then that should be about it right?
  3. Thats what i was going to do, set both tye hsn and lsn to the richest settings possible and attempt higher speed runs and adjusting the hsn based on the bogging down due to too much fuel and adjust until it no longer bogs down. The lsn i was thinking of adjust until it no longer bogs down at take off from standing. And adjusting the idle if needed. I don't want to run it too ruch that it bogs down but not so lean that it ruins the engine and risk setting the body on fire due to the heat of the exhaust. Adjusting the rich to a lean 1/8th of a turn at a time until it no longer bogs down on both the hsn and lsn so basically it is "just off" too rich and i end up with a car that operates at higher rpms without bogging, a good clean take off and idle. That sound about right or should i lean out a little further and listen to the noises of all scenario's? Thanks for all your help guys! Be out bright and very early tomorrow so... fingers crossed!!
  4. Yeah the instruction booklet isnt the best in all fairness. Even the big box the truck came in was showing the other or wrong carb. I was adjusting the screw on the throttle ( part that slides out and in). It adjusted nicely i.e like **** off a hot shovel from standing still. From higher rpms to stopping the revs would remain high then drop a little or... would raise a little. When it should drop to a nice steady low'ish rpm. I'll try your advice and report back Thanks guys!
  5. Do i have the right carb? I did wonder as my carb looks different to one in the manual. Heres what my manual shows here http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b382/wrightgj/b.jpg Heres what mine looks like in detail http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachments/shifting-gears/80922d1229707041-radio-remote-control-cars-thread-rc-carb.jpg Heres how it actually looks http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTA2MVgxNjAw/z/pNYAAOxy4dNS9QFj/$_2.JPG like the black one, not like the one shown in the original thunder tiger mta4 s28 manual. From puctures i have the s50 carb on my s28?
  6. By getting hot i mean ( without sounding gross) Putting saliva around the glow plyg area it instantly sizzles away. And putting saliva on the exhaust manifold ( nearest to engine) it slips off with the heat. My younger brother went to start it after it cut out and burnt himself quite badly due to the exhaust and he only caught himself (just!). Should they get very hot or just hot? Also does anyone think cutting windows out on the body is a bad idea? I.e extra cooling easier access to pullstart etc so can restart without having to remove tge body. Also noticed yesterday that the four tiny allen bolts that hold the pull start unit on were coming loose. Trying to tighten them up resulted in them just spinning and not tightening up. Its now currently held on with 2 that seem okay. Any ideas on what i can do with this? Do they make helicoil bolts this small i.e the bolt grabs when tightened so won't come loose.
  7. Hi all, A few may recall my last post about returning to the nitro scene after a few years away. Well.. after all the suggestions etc i finally bought myself the thunder tiger mta4 s28 brand new for
  8. Cutting it out now so should help things . The lsn is on the slider just found out by googling some more . I got it where it would idle for 30 seconds and then cut out but frim a standstill to full throttle it was very fast and didnt bog down at all. I'll have a play. Im thinking on saturday to, turn the hsn to the closed position and turn anti clockwise to 2.5 default factory settings. Start it and then after10 seconds of idling etc increase to richen mixture and get to full throttle, keep adjusting etc until it stalls or..over fuels stalling at full throttle then begin leaning off until it no longer stalls at full throttle and then go 1/8th of a thrn more and check the temp in a rough ish way. Then adjust the lsn and idle speed . So far so good! Put all the extra collars on the suspension so now sits nice and high and a little stiffer to hopefully get a bit more clearance and a little less roll. Hopefully will have the engine running sweet too! Thanks for all your help . Pics to follow soon!
  9. Mud is certainly a want to do! Puddles not sure. The shell has been pre-cut for the heatsink to show through. Id like to aid cooling further and increase air flow to the AF and acess the pullstart without having to take the body off. I did adjust the hsn. Closed the hsn, 2.5 turns to default then half another turn. Thinking more fuel, more lube = cooler temps due to the oil in the fuel. Also... im struggling with the lsn. The manual shows it near the hsn but... my mta4 doesnt have the one pictured in the manual. The lsn i think? Is the screw below the air filter i.e where the throttle is? Found the hsn and idle screw and think i found the lsn ( lsn where the throttle is on the side of the carb?

  12. he sent me a message and I've sent a reply - very good price for the S50 unfortunately funds don't allow just now but it's definitely what we both are wanting so when funds do allow I've said I'll send sean-vrs a pm just in case he still has one or two. Thanks all Rob
  13. I did actually go round a couple of shops today and had a good look around - one that did catch the girlfriends eye was one of these - 1/8th scale nitro http://www.modelsport.co.uk/thunder-tiger-mta4-s28-rtr-2.4ghz-blue-/rc-car-products/35438 I quite like the idea of one of these sizes again (forgot I did briefly also own a 1/5th 2 stroke petrol rc - marauder or something, didn't keep it very long. are these any good? hop ups? spares etc thanks for all your replies - i'm looking closely and comparing and also comparing the parts and accesories etc including the different engines that are supposed to fit etc - modelsport.co.uk website is fantastic for being able to look at RTR models and showing the spares and other parts that are for and or fit that model of RC!! Thanks Rob p.s having looked into the truggies and my budget - I would really like to be able to get myself a truggy to be able to go over fields, dirt and jumps off road tracks etc woods for example and such. having a budget and needing new gear like the glow starters - fuel and recharchable batteries and such how are the thunder tiger MTA4 S28 for reliability? its a truggy which is what we we'd both really like (that's the one that caught the girlfriends eye today in the shop). and its within my budget. been having a look at the replacement original parts - available here at modelsport.co.uk and a few other places. hop ups available here according to this website - http://www.asiatees.com/model?Thunder-Tiger-MTA-4-Upgrades-Parts-Hop-Ups&brand=Thunder%20Tiger&model=MTA-4 asiatees - do they actually stock these products? I don't want to buy one and then find I can't get the parts they are offering. They also do an adjustable engine mounting so bigger engines fit in such as the 5.9cc! any thoughts of opinions folks? a buggy would get me a better brand name and better access to tuning options but the truggy can go anywhere with none of the drawbacks of the buggy i.e getting stuck off roading. I'm hoping the asiatees website is correct about the hop ups available for the MTA4 whats the MTA4 like ? Thanks rob
  14. Hi all, I'm rob I'm 22 and live in west yorkshire, Me and my girlfriend are considering getting a couple of nitro rc's as a bit of a hobby, we like any mechanical and can do most things (being classic car drivers/ owners and fans). but... thats a bloody expensive hobby these days! so.. decided to scale it down and return to RC cars instead. a few years ago me and my mates had nitro's - heres a couple I had colt ST 1/16th - can't remember much about it - first nitro car at about 15 had a pretty bad experience - being new etc took it out of the box, put the batteries in - fuel - glow stick - checked everything over - pulled the fuel through first - glow starter on the glow plug couple of pulls and it was racing around at full revs due to the fuel lines not being 100% air tight from new.. had nothing but hassle. left the rc thing for a few months and decided to give it another go but go 2nd hand via ebay - although I know this doesn't make sense in this hobby i.e how it's been treated, run in etc but.. having had the nasty experience i thought its better to gamble with 50-60 quid than gamble with 200-300 so.. bought this - this is the actual car I bought thunder tiger - no idea what spec servo's - spec diffs - gears - age - engine size or spec etc surprisingly enough - the thunder tiger which although quite old (looked it anyway and I'd say around 8-10 years old at the time) actually proved very reliable and easy to work with when things did need replacing or re-lubing etc. had loads of hours of fun and even blew away my mates HPI rush buggy thing he had when that was brand new lol. but eventually... it did die and in a noble fashion! during a top speed sprint (nothing out of the usual) done it millions of times - suddenly there was a huge bang and the heatsink shot up into the air approximately 20-30ft!! I did manage to retrieve everything in the end. - anybody tell me the spec if they happen to know? would be nice to know a little more about it So.. back on track.. me and my girlfriend are thinking of getting back into the hobby, I decided against touring/on road due to the lack of places to run them unfortunately :/ so truggy or buggy it is - plenty of off road places miles away from anyone so no noise issues etc and plenty of open spaces away from other people. I'm thinking of spending around the 200-250 pound mark and get a brand new good brand that is RTR. I've also been looking into the long term such as the suspension mounts that can break etc so hop ups play a big part - possible engine upgrades - different engines - bigger and faster units etc. I would like something that is fairly reliable - where parts can be bought and also hop ups too. engines etc I would like to consider for the long term so after a year or so.. can put a bigger more torquey or powerful engine in. what would you advise - I suspect I'll be the one to go first into buying the first buggy/truggy out of the two of us lol Thanks Rob
