  1. Luckily we have an open park opposite the house and I will certainly be there with him. Not sure if this gift is for him or me Cant wait for Wednesday - shame about the weather, but can't have everything. Thanks for the ideas and have a good Christmas everyone.
  2. Thanks all for the replies - I think I must have misunderstood about what you can do with the transmitter - thought these things were standard. However, sticking blutac behind the trigger is 1/ within my technical ability 2/ something I can do without buying any more bits. Great idea!! Thanks
  3. Just for a bit of variety, instead of another "how do I go faster" question, I want to know how to go slower. Got first RC for my son for xmas and I've ready that you can control speed via the ESC or controller, but not exactly how?? I've got a brushed FTX carnage with an Etronix ESR1. I understand that some of the dials on the top are the trim for steering and throttle, are the others on there to control the speed? I want to turn it down for the first couple of days so he doesn't run it into a tree on day1! Thanks
  4. We'll be using on the park nearby which is wide open and I'll be with him to help carry the pieces back home. Thanks for replies - I feel better now. Still got to explain to my wife though!
  5. Hi all, Just bought my first rc for my 8 y.o. an ftx carnage. I was planning to limit the speed whilst he's learning, but the box has arrived with "this is not a toy and not suitable for anyone under 14 years of age". At best I'm going to have do some explaining to the other half. At worst have I made a mistake and is this too advanced? I've read plenty of posts and nothing led me to believe I shouldn't get one. Worried now.
  6. Everyone, thanks for the suggestions. Will mostly be running on grass, and as suggested I will be the one lugging it around! Going to go with the strada xt or mt (I assume they are the same just different bodies?). Last question - how long do the batteries hold charge? I want to charge it up so he's ready to go as soon as the box is open. Can I charge a couple of days before? Thanks all
  7. Cost is part of the issue - hence the two models I chose. 1/8 is a out of my league for the first car. If he gets into it I don't mind paying a bit more. I've seen the LunchBox and read good things but they don't quite look the part for me. And for an eight year old, the way it looks is half the appeal. I was going to get an XT rather than a buggy as I thought it would be better on grass. Any thoughts on the strada / ion? they seem pretty much the same to me, just the size difference. Would smaller be stronger or vice versa?
  8. Hi, I'm looking to get my son's first RC for christmas and am torn between two models, the maverick strada which is 1/10 and the ion which is 1/18. It would mostly be used on the park, grass and paths. My concerns are that the ion would be no good on the grass and would be too small. My problem with the strada is that it will be too fast for a first timer and it will go into a tree on christmas day and end up in bits. Any advice on the pros and cons of the different scales? Is 1/10 too big for an 8 year old? Is 1/18 too small? Thanks
