  1. Yeah I have the droop screws set so the arms are pretty much level front and rear. I also had to use spacers of the rear in order for them to clear the a-arms (2mm spacers). Ideally for the on road car id like to find shorter springs but it is tough to find a proper set because everyone uses different widths. And then there is the spring rate ratings... That is like bingo because everyone seems to use a different form of measuring them! Lol Anyway with the stock shocks and springs being the length they are they actually twist the control arms when you have the droop set as steep as I do. I went with the traxxas shocks because (I had them and) they are more adjustable so I was able to get a good on road spring rate while getting them close to the length I want without having as much tension on the control arms and droop screws. It's still not perfect as I'd like to go shorter and stiffer but it is an improvement over the stock parts.
  2. Nice, in that case id look into seeing what kind of springs fit on the shocks you have. You are going to want to go with a higher rate to account for the extra weight. Then you need to look into batteries. If you do the math (volt x kv of the motor) the sweet spot for the WR8 is right around 50k rpms at the motor with the stock gearing. That is the 4000kv motor running on a 3cell which makes for a smoking fast little car! If you want to get the same wheel speed out of a 2200kv combo you will look into 5cell batteries or higher and even then you will need to gear it up a bit. A 5cell on the 2200kv will give you 46,000 rpm at the motor vs the 4000kv on a 3cell giving you 50,000rpms. At any rate you will also want to upgrade to the HD drive cups all around. The torque from a 2200kv will wear them down in no time. Check out the option parts section for the WR8 on the HPI website to see what the part numbers are for those. For gearing id go with the intigy 40t spur gear and the Robinson racing 1222 pinion. That combo should give you a good amount of wheel speed. What are you going to be using the car for?
  3. That combo is it is really designed to be used with 4s batteries and up. If you run it with a 3cell you will be disappointed with the wheel speed. The only problem I see with a 4cell and the WR8 is the weight. The chassis design (in my opinion) is struggling when you have a 3cell mounted to it. If you run it with a 4cell (or more) you will really be pushing the shocks, and other suspension components.
  4. So shiny! Bullet flux HD axles and 9mm hexes... Now if someone wanted to use the HD axles with the stock hexes (keeping the stock track width) they would have to drill out the rims to approximately 4.8mm and then use a small washer to account for the extra length of the axle. The washer would need to be 1 or 2mm thick. See the picture below. It is the HD axle with the stock hex which is 5.5mm wide. And here is the HD axle with a 9mm hex.
  5. I picked up the losi balancer and it came with the sct adapter so I can use it with a 12mm hex. It's a really nice piece! That's a good deal on the garmin! Everyone I've looked at sell for around $60+.. I'm going to keep my eye out for a good deal. I'd love to see how fast both my runners are. Check out the monstrous pinion lol...
  6. You are correct J.A.Son. I'm running the 3800kv with a 5mm shaft. The pinion I'm using is a Robinson Racing 1220. I wish I had a GPS, I just haven't been able to find on in my price range yet. As long as the car doesn't burst into another dimension before then, I will have some onboard and hopefully some drive by footage over the weekend so i'll post when that is put together ;-) If I had to guess I'd say it is easily cursing at 55mph if not faster and It is a monster off the line too. I really have to be gentle with it coming out of the corners or it just spins the tires for yards... that probably has something to do with the cooler weather but I like to think it is just from raw power. (hehe) I also got a wheel balancer in the mail last night so I balanced the wheels before taking it out and i think that also made a huge difference. Here it is in all it's beastliness... (I also went back to the Traxxas big bore shocks for on road duty)
  7. Wow... running the 20 tooth pinion makes the car fast as heck! lol It is a cool 65f out today and my motor temps got up to 160f after a hard bashing session. The car is just silly fast now! I forgot to bring the camera out unfortunately...
  8. BTW I also picked up a set of the HD bullet/savage 40mm axles. I'll let you all know what has to be done to use them with the stock hexes if it's possible. I may need to go back to the 9mm wide ones though. We shall see...
  9. Ahh sorry, I was replying from my phone! I thought you were asking me ;-)
  10. In Durham NH. Are you in the states?
  11. Awesome! Thanks Leo! Thanks ;-) I need to change it up a bit. I'm going to start laying down cones to make it more interesting. Yeah the wires are still loose... I need to take care of that and I need to test out the threaded blitz shock bodies. I have the parts, I just need the time!
  12. I guess I'll find out Thursday... I just ordered one 8-) After about 20 or so runs I've finally burned through my 1st set of 27r belted slicks. Lol they are an awesome tire! Here is a clip of the tire's last run. Keep in mind it is about 65 degrees f here so the 27rs are slick! http://youtu.be/x3SxKuxliCI Mike
  13. Anyone know if a 20 tooth pinion will fit physically on the WR8? Fall is in the air here and I want to take advantage of the cool weather. 8-)
  14. Sonic, that looks like a hairy place to try a speed run! Lol I'd be afraid of going off into the rocks! I'd like to see how fast my on road is going at this point. It seems a bit faster than the car in stock form with the same gearing and power plant. One thing I noticed is how much easier the car rolls.... Setting the toe and camber straight as possible all around makes a big difference.
  15. You can also get more speed out of it by going to the 2 degree rear toe block.
  16. Anyone have a link? I haven't seen it yet.
  17. Nice! Those look awesome! Btw... I wonder what he is using for rear body posts. Lol I can imagine the lean he's got going on with those cameras up there.
  18. I couldn't agree more! I've sent my upgrade wish list to them ;-)
  19. Yeah they are sold in sets of 4. As for drifting I guess it would depend on the power you are putting through them ;-) I can get a good drift going with the stock tires and these are a bit harder so they will probably drift a little easier.
  20. Mine were $22 for all 4 shipped to me. I think the price went up a few $ though to around $24. Still not a bad price, a little cheaper than the hobby pro tires from RCmart.
  21. Yup got mine in today too. ;-) They are unglued and the compound is pretty soft. Not as soft as the stockers but close. They should be ok for gravel, dusty tarmac or hard packed dirt. The tread is pretty shallow but only time will tell how long they last. I'm going to try to save them for off road use mostly so they probably won't get used for awhile.
  22. Any of you guys own an RS4 MT2 or a Wheely King? I've been looking into cross referencing parts and I'm wondering if the 13t diff pinion gear would fit the WR8 (yeah, I may be dreaming). Specifically I'm looking into the HD gear set FD pinion here It is 13t which is the same as the WR8, and running it front and rear would allow for fitting universal center shafts. If any of you guys have an MT2 or like model that the 86336 would fit into I'd love to get the measurements ;-) I may just have to go hunting at my local hobby store to see if they have one in stock I can measure.
  23. x2... Let see it! Edit- I also had a hard time holding the gopro on top of my remote while driving the Super EP. I ended up whacking it flat into a curb... There didn't seem to be any damage but I will need to check it out fully to be sure. It isn't easy.
  24. I'm using the hero3+black. This is the first time I've ever used a camera like it to tell you the truth. Also it is technically not mine... There is no way I'd spend that kind of dough on a camera ;-) I have it mounted directly to the front or rear shock towers using some of the GoPro hardware and some HPI hardware ;-) See here: It is awesome for the type of video I'm taking but id much rather use my phone for taking video of family stuff. The lack of a view finder makes catching heads, faces and smiles kind of hard.
