  1. I got a few things, I think I mentioned in a previous post on this thread but essentials for me anyway were: Killswitch > Outwear > KM Upgraded Rear Shock Brace > Killer RC shock Limiters I bought that lot^ for both rigs but then decided to make one a basher and the other a dry/nice weather rig so bought very different aftermarket stuff for each rig over about 4 paydays I'm still certain my total spend is way cheaper (getting 2x KM's) than one HPI 5x as they need most of the same upgrades too.
  2. The RCModelz one is fine...used it lots and fitted before shipping just helped me get up and running fast. (BTW green light means kill engaged - no light = ready to start/run)
  3. Yep...you can mix and match...some KM upgrades are pretty good - their outwear is fine too and cheap as chips. Each upgrade is worth checking out between hpi, KM and aftermarket. Running it stock was fine too.
  4. I think that can be said for most brands mate. HPI stuff fails too from the box. If you fully spec up two shopping baskets for a HPI vs KM Baja and I mean getting as close to like for like, then you will see the prices are way out. The money you save allows you to replace the average parts for better than HPI with aftermarket parts and still be quids in to just replace the rest as you break it. Ask me again in 6 months as I bought 2x KM's with upgrades for the price of a well spec'ed HPI 5T...I don't intend to miss any nice weekends with my dual redundancy
  5. If you buy your KM from RCModelz they will sell and fit a kill switch for you. They also stock all, or at least most of the KM spares and hopups available. Your options for spares and upgrades are: KM stuff...way cheaper and in some cases just as good as HPI HPI stuff...way more money and in some cases parts look identical to KM (however my HPI bumper is definitely better plastic than the KM one I broke) Aftermarket hopups for the HPI Baja 5T...normally more money than the above two options but worth it for "some" parts Places to buy KM parts: RCModelz and Ebay Places to buy HPI AND HPI hopup parts: Modelsport, Wheelspin, Abbots RC, MMR Largescale, FreePrawn Racing (is a start) Upgrade as you break stuff is my RC strategy, however I did buy this from the off: - Kill switch - Outwears for pullstart and air filter - Killer RC limiters - Upgraded rear shock brace (KM Dark Knight) I've spent more since then but only because I felt I saved so much money buying the KM, plus the upgrades would have been needed either way. You will NOT be disappointed with the performance or build quality (in my opinion again of course). One point is if you don't want to have to buy a clone KM pipe don't get the T1000a with the HPI SS clone pipe. It's VERY loud but way off the performance of other KM pipes. The T1000b (Beetle) comes with a better (CPI clone) pipe or go for a buggy and convert it to a truck is another option....which by the way are endless! Lots to read in this and other forums...oh and YouTube of course ;-)
  6. Spot on...love it. I've done 6 tanks (3 giving it the full beans after break in). Broken a front bumper driving full speed into a bench and also a Losi 5ive broke a rear hub by hitting me side on. Recent bash video here: It's taken it all very well, goes a lot faster than expected, handles great and is worth every penny IMHO. Rating from me so far is 5/5 ;D Hope this helps...feel free to ask anything specific.
  7. Thanks everyone. The location is Dawlish in Devon and yes single short visits so the grass grows back and people don't complain. Both trucks jump pretty well although my mate wants more power for his Losi. The KM has impressed me as I expected more parts to fail. So far I've just snapped the front bumper and skid plate. Sorry the video is so long! I cba to spend very long filtering home video clips and my driving buddy would want to see as much footage as possible. I'll make the next one shorter
  8. Hi All Today was the first ever bash with 5th scale petrol's for my mate and I. Bloody awesome I thought you petrol heads would like to see it. We've only just finished engine break in after three tanks. This is the first chance to open them up a bit. The Kingmotor T1000 is 30.5cc, the Losi 5ive is 26cc. Both are stock, running rich and have tuned pipes. Hope you like the video, don't forget to watch it in HD! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Music: *Copyright free music from http://www.youtube.com/user/NoCopyrightSounds - Flux Pavilion - Standing on a Hill - Aero Chord - Time Leap - All You Gotta Do (Fox Stevenson Remix) - Candyland & MakO ft. 9. I got mine from Abbots before Xmas. Rit dyeing was time consuming although it came out ok. The panels don't come pre-drilled anymore, which is a good and bad thing. The whole cage probably took me 12 hours although while watching TV and over a couple of days. The end result looks/feels robust, but time will tell as I haven't even run it in yet. Let me know if you have any other questions or check my KM/Kraken thread.
  10. Your gonna love the KM! Just spent the afternoon spanking my KM T1000a with a mate and his Losi 5ive...both are three tanks old and they are our first 5th scale gassers. Were impressed with both and smacked the crap out of them. I'll get a video up soon, hopefully before I go to bed
  11. Sorry!!! lol....worth it I reckon as it saves the bodyshell costs and protects a lot of the chassis and internals...however, I've not smacked it about yet so time will tell, but I'll report back here.
  12. Nice, have you thought about getting those aluminium barn dog panels or do you run a bodyshell with the TC cage?
  13. Glad everyone likes it - I went with a KM as the donor Baja. With the Kraken cage and a few other mods its still loads less that a HPI SS kit...I decided to get 2x KM bajas @
  14. Some of the stickers cover weird differences in the RIT dyeing process but I agree...I wanted less at the start and went mental ha!
  15. Thanks guys - just needs some dirt on her and she's finished
  16. Yo Just finished my 2nd and last winter project and I'm all set for some largescale action over the Xmas break. Hope you like it...the Kraken cage was a bitch and I probably went OTT on autopilot with the stickers ;-) Cheers DARSKi
  17. Nice thanks - that's what I got but I meant to order a Dom, so all is good.
  18. Thanks again guys. Anyone have an opinion which is better for a 5T 30.5cc between a Predator v1 or Rear Dom v1 clone?
  19. I've got a Super 5SC Flux and that body shell is bloody expensive but half the thickness of the KM shells. It does seem better made but thinner. Time will tell I guess and yeah all RC has disposables but some of the shells are right up there for cost versus use once. Heli's are similar if you smack em about but add blades, head, tail, gears, servos etc...one reason I've moved to cars and 1:1 motorbikes...cost of ownership.
  20. Ok cool - erm that's what I thought but I'm pretty sure both are lexan. I see they are now advertised as lexan on ebay, but that doesn't mean anything ;-)
  21. Yep I agree. I have a Monster Slash 4x4 in bug guise and the stock shell can take a pounding in comparison. True, that goo stuff and good gaffa tape is all you need. Just stocked up in fact I was hoping the TC roll cage in the KM would keep both my bodyshells together longer than not having one anyway. I had read they wouldn't be lexan and be brittle and shatter, but I'm certain both KM shells are flexible lexan?
  22. Haha thanks! I'll see if I can power some more leds ready for Xmas Yeah I got the bug shell cheap and my guess is the original KM 5T shell wont last long once I get a chance to bash it, so the bug is for indoor storage for now. I've got a rear predator clone and uber RC rear bumper on the way (oh the irony - I see clones are a sore subject in some places - no different to the IT industry in my opinion) so I'm hoping to be pretty bash proof with the TC cage as well. I'll be keeping this thread going as I'm just past engine break in and itching to film her getting dirty ;0)
