  1. After doing some research, I think I'm inclined to go for the Schumacher LC Racing EMB-1. It seems a like-for-like contender with the Losi mini 8ight. It seems to have a popular parts/spec following too. I'm torn between getting the RTR & the kit. The kit version comes with aluminium parts such as the floor & front/rear stays - but then I have the task of getting the electrics/motor/servo etc. Can any1 point me at any good links for EMB-1 parts? Or suggest some components I could price into my plan of development?
  2. Thanks for that Silone. I'll do some searching round then, cos as it'd be my 2nd rc adventure. I think I wanna do a build from a near kit form upwards. Great link btw. To give me a wider variation / availability of parts, which path of the 3 would offer the most / best options? Or are they much of a muchness?
  3. Lol, already had a quick look in following another thread... I think I want something that'd be brushless, 4WD, with a rear spoiler.
  4. Hi, Only been into rc for a few months and went to my 1st local rc meet last night. I have a 1/10th for abit of outdoor bashing but am interested in joining my local meets for some other more appropriate smaller scale indoor racing. They had several classes but was most interested in the 'micro' class? Some guys were running Losi 8ight's. Could you guys offer some advice as to the car models I could start looking at? What scale are these? I think someone said they were Losi mini 8ight's. Is that a micro class? 1/14th? I wouldn't have a huge budget but would consider spending up to
  5. Update.... After going to a couple of RC shops - couldn't really get any tyres to solve the problem I had in terms of clearance but did opt for some new one's (a little wider than the old stock tyres). http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/24996-/ Also done a nice little mod in mounting an old tyre on a 12mm hex on the rear of the car (gives it a nice look)...hope you approve
  6. I guess you got ur new motor then? Have you tried Penn Models, Kingswinford?
  7. Not made much progress tbh. Have taken a look around on net in search of tyre options. Even popped down to my local rc shop for some advice.... Trouble is there just to many to filter through...ahhhh! Can any1 point me in the direction of 100mm OD (total) off-road tyre, 1/10th scale, not too wide, 12mm hex.
  8. I think it will have to be. I'll post any decent progress i make. Thanks for replies
  9. Yeah the arm is at it's lowest it will go, to make it go further it would need chassis base plate dremelling out some.
  10. I meant to say when we did have a bash over East park, after being kicked off the oval, we had a little drag race up 1 of the paths (near the kids play area). On the return run my mate who has a FTX Siege decided to run into the railing fence, resulting in.... http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/24598-imag0943/ It ripped his rear tyre right off! He's more than gutted now....
  11. I striped the car down a little last night... Here's my problem in quite a large clearance difference from front to rear: http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/24590-/ After taking a wheel + connections off, you can there's just a 2mm difference (unsupported / non tensioned with shock): http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/24593-/ The shock does indeed extend the suspension arm as far as it will go The car bottoms out on this slightly lower motor cover plate: http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/24594-/ I think I'd have to modify the chassis under-plate here to increase the droop in suspension arm: http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/24589-/ This I suspect would then cause me issues with drive shaft length, connector rod length, vertical wheel alignment etc So things to try... Thicker shock oil Experiment with more shock spring spacing Tyre OD's
  12. Congrats on that fil_b. Perhaps we'll all be able to hook up soon-ish. I've seriously got the bug now - so unfortunately the missus will have to marry my cars too
  13. Yeah the NEXXT would fit, as its the same chassis. Kyosho are also releasing the AXXE (I think someone there held their fingers on certain keys when typing up the new models) - this is also on the same chassis. although the roll cage is slightly different. I'd love to find a new shell to fit chassis but would think it'd need some re-modding to accomodate a 'standard' looking shell.
  14. I'd scouted the main website http://eastparkwolves.webs.com/ (although their fixture list isn't in use - or there's no further fixtures of course) & here at British Cycle Events https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events?&zuv_bc_discipline_filter_id=3 also here http://www.spokesman-online.co.uk/2013_fixtures_417.html a summary site for events (I feel all covert ) And it appears there isn't any further events (after their last 1 on 8th Sept 2013) but this doesn't discount any training sessions they may have - so it's pot luck really. Would be shame not to use such a facility ;p
  15. lol, I keep watching that video! Thinking about it some more... Since I've upgraded my motor-esc combo, shocks, battery - It does fly just like that. It is much punchier / quicker as a result. The front end rears up (on acceleration) & the curved plate under the lower rear end (motor mount) does indeed react like an anti-flip. Hmmm....perhaps this is it?
  16. Thanks both, all good stuff. I have already used a wider spacer in the rear shock + kept my stock spring as it's stiffer than the Traxxis I bought (and longer too). So I've already attempted to stiffen up on the back. I'm not completely sure at this point whether a thiner oil will help much, as I suspect the shock travel isn't long as it is. I'll strip & check. I think I will strip the roll cage off & take a deeper look into the overall set-up (may post some pics for further comments etc). I'll check if there are any more adjustable bits I've not noticed. Great info/insight into sand-dwelling buggy physics / theory (thanks for investing the time). I guess the car seems to be designed (at a rudimentary level) to run on this type of surface, whereas it's actual use will be a combo of hard concrete & medium grass. I need to tailor the car to suit - this is where I'm at now. I'll also check on whether I can get an alternative tyre dimension that may help things, without detracting from the scale looks etc.
  17. Would anyone have any experience in trying to increase the ground clearance on your car at the rear? I have a Kyosho SandMaster EZ Series, and it has slightly less rear clearance than the front. It results, depending on the level of surface, in the rear bottoming-out. And at speed it looks rediculous when the car bounces up & forward to land on the front tyres - desperately then trying to regain direction of the car! So far I have installed oil-filled shocks in both front & rear (some Traxxis) - it has improved the car 100%! But with only 2 hole-positions available in the top of the front & rear stay & only 2 hole-positions available near the bottom of the shock (near the tyre/hub area) - there isn't enough adjust to be made. I have played about with the shock spring (both strength & length) - this helps on the front (where there's more play), but am out of options on the rear. I've looked at the suspension arm - to see if anything could be done there but the arm is already at its lowest hanging position (giving me my maximum shock length, and therefore maximum clearance). Without starting to modify the chassis, allowing for longer vertical travel in the suspension arm, I'm unsure whether I'm going to start altering my wheel camber. And then potentially develop issues with my drive shafts & upper rods (I don't want to ruin my car). Any options from you guys here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...
  18. True & we did jump over to make a start, but some kids come over on bikes (obviously racing-style bikes) and mentioned their Dad, who helps run the cycle club was near by & advised we should move on, as its use is exclusive to the cycle club. My annoyance comes from the fact the track wasn't in use at the time, and as its a public area why shouldn't we be allowed on, but heyho. I think its a case of - come into area from the rear of the park & keep a low profile. I've checked on the Cycle Club's site & they race there infrequently - so there'd be plenty of opportunities to go on (at each persons risk of course). I'll take a look when passed the BC museum next.
  19. I want to try ashmore & will deffo take a look at the Netherton 1. Went over to East Park today, about midday-ish, got told that the oval track was for cycles only, it was all padlocked/gated up too though. Well pee'd off. Annoying though when you have a public facility, prob funded by a lottery grant, not in use at the time, but wasted..... Why not allow someone else to use it when there's no 2-wheelers around?!
  20. That's just 3 miles from here, I'll try a squeeze a visit in soon, to give it a try. I'll keep tracking posts on this thread, will deffo hook up sometime. Gonna be busy this wk/end but will keep posted.
  21. I'll have to check that 1 out, I've only ever driven on outdoor grass fields etc Is that place open access to public?
  22. Hi, I've been struggling to find any bashing/meets anywhere in dudley/wolv/bilston area. Hooked onto this thread & seems quite active. I'm new here & to RC, but wanna get my car out there with some like-minded ppl. Where do u guys meet? How often?
  23. There will be a new entry level car on the market (November-ish) from Kyosho. It's sitting on the Sandmaster / Nexxt chassis. With some re-designed parts, shell & a slightly modified roll cage. Looks to be fairly similar under the hud to the Sandmaster, by all accounts. I'd assume this would come in kit form 1st - and should be easy & quick to build with some pre-assembled parts. It would be a great introduction to a young RC'er getting into cars. And if it's at all like the Sandmaster - in my experience easy to upgrade step-by-step to something that can provide some medium/high speed fun. The scale looks are nice, and seems pretty well robust for a bit of a crash or two (with what looks like a more solid panel construction). Although it looks like they've gone for the same 'push-in' pins on the panel work. These do have a tendency to pop out with some more violent crashes http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/24333-/ Some specs...
  24. Lol, interesting thought. Dont think i'd risk tho.
