I have the dbx ve 2.0 which has the same chassis as the dmt and drx. In my mind a metal chassis is always better than a plastic one A Savage flux XS seems like fun but it's way too small, the mini summit is pretty small as well and considered to be a "money pit". The stampede is more expensive I believe and will never handle like the dmt. Don't forget that the dmt has 3 sealed diffs so that you can adjust the way it handles by trying out different diff oils.
On the other side the dmt doesn't have lots of aftermarket accessories and from what I understand part support in UK sucks. Also I highly reccomend you get the DMT VE-R that comes with better electronics (capable of 3s unlike the dmt ve) and 2.4ghz transmitter. It's just a few pounds more but it's worth it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kyosho-DMT-VE-R-Team-Orion-Brushless-RTR-Electric-4wd-Off-Road-Truck-30844RS-/321105236659?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item4ac35d12b3 (I have nothing to do with that shop/seller, I'm using it as an example. Also, the transmitter only needs 4 AA batteries not 8 that is mentioned there)
In conclusion, I do believe the dmt ve-R is a bargain but for a begginer maybe it's better to get something that has better part support and is owned by lots of people so that you can get help on the forums. Personally I'd get the dmt ve-r over the others anyday but where I live it's super-easy to find kyosho parts.
Sorry for all the mistakes, I hope my post makes sense
