  1. Hey Guys It's been a while I've beefed up the rear gearbox, run it a few times and it's working nicely. Gears are meshing and it doesn't explode at high speed - like the previous one It just needs flushing into a streamline profile. Still running with a plain livery, will sort this out sometime Problem - theres been another crash it was wet - running slicks a 9t motor in a 0.5-1 kg rear wheel drive car is stupid
  2. Thanks all, I've done a quick fix on the car - need to repaint. Hopefully I'll run it soon. I had started to make spare parts, I thought I'd damage the front first though
  3. Running with a 'test' livery First run in a supermarket carpark, I pushed the accelerator and after about 5 secs the car came to a stop The bevelled gear that transfers the power to the slip-diff had worn down! Basically the gears weren't meshing tightly enough, so a quick fix with a bit of resin, dremelling and a new gear. I had the car running again. It's rapid Handles quite good ...for about 5mins until I crashed it :wtf: All of which I didn't catch on camera! So the car is out of action I was running quite close to a 'trolley hut' braked, spun around and slide backwards into a small hump that stops trolleys rolling out. Driver error! Apart from the crash, I'm really pleased with the car. It's quick. It doesn't have much damage, it can be fixed quite easily. I'm glad the gear fix worked, and the lipos produce more than enough power. When I get it running next time I'll try to get it on camera!
  4. hi Guys, Here are a few livery ideas, let me know what you think.
  5. Hi Guys, Thanks for the positive comments. I aim to finish the project in about a month or two. I've been slacking lately on this project, the car is fully assembled, making sure everything fits. The batteries have arrived so will be testing the setup of the electronics and the running of the gears. Cosmetically, all thats left to do is painting of the black surfaces. I tried glossy black but it looked to shiny, so I probably go with a satin finish. I did intend to wrap these parts in carbon effect decal paper, I don't think I can apply them neatly enough to do the car justice. The part that has been slowing down my progress it the 'sidepod pylons', I keep snapping them really annoying. I'll add some photoshopped images of the livery soon. Here's the latest images.
  6. Hi All, I really can't decide on the livery maybe someone could design one for me!!! So I've painted the glossy top coat on, quite happy with it, gonna repaint the sidepods and top of the monocoque again. So for now it's jus the neutral white livery, and I've painted a few of the black surfaces. Let me know what you guy's think, can't wait to get this car on the road now, should be quick with this streamlined body!
  7. Yo All, Another update, no modelling of parts just preparing the surface and adding layers of paint. I've sanded it back so many times now, but it's getting there. It must be at least close to prefect, cos I've spent so long on it. Final layer of gloss white paint on now, and I've started to paint the black surfaces. Thanks for the suggestions all on the livery still undecided. I plan to do the graphics on computer, print onto decal paper and wrap the livery on the car. Sounds easy but I sure it's gonna be a headache.
  8. A few more images of the car, I've added the white primer coat and I'm still find small imperfections Taking ages to get this right.
  9. Hi All, Thanks for the positive comments! Ok after too much sanding and preparing the surface started painting the parts now, really bring the model to life. Any suggestions for the livery?
  10. Yep your right no suspension, my previous cars have been ok. This car is lighter but I'm sticking in a 9t motor and lipo, instead of a 17t motor! Should be quite quick. So I've cheated a bit and have had the front wing prototyped, it would have taken me to long to make it, and I would have only crashed it.
  11. amellor03 I'm gonna run a 9t Brushless motor in it with Tamiya F201 running gear. 11.1V Lipo which are around 180grams. It'll only be rear wheel drive so will be wheelspinning like crazy. It will weigh under a kilogram, should be lighteningly quick if I can keep it in a straight line! Progress Report I've slightly reprofiled the cockpit opening, I wasn't happy with the way it looked. I am now working on some of the finer details, mirrors and sidepod pylons. The sidepod pylons are being particularly tricky to do, trying to get both sides equal is proving pretty difficult. All these small detail though hopefully will make the car look even better when finished.
  12. Cheese85 Sad thing is I probably will crash it Update Guys So the nosecone, I want to able the detach the part quickly just like F1, so I'm using 4 small rods that simply slide into the tub components. Also I've gone for aesthetics rather than copy one of the current 'ugly' F1 car nosecones. I've hollowed the modelboard piece out, reducing weight and inserted a piece of tubing/straw. This will carry the air flow from the hole at the front of the nose, through the nosecone and into the tube.
  13. So I've installed the steering into the car, I wanted to keep the cut out for the steering arm as small as possible. I've tried hiding it under the upright arm. Just to make the car look more realistic. The servo is fixed at an angle so that the motor can be placed as far forward as possible, giving the car a better weight distribution. Another image of all the internal electronics fitted in the car, it's all very tight! Hopefully it won't overheat!
  14. Hi Guys Update on the car, Here's another image of the wheel uprights. I love aerodynamics so one can see the benefits of these flat uprights, with just the driver shaft poking in the middle. I need to add the winglets and brake duct detail to these. Using this uprights means it has freed up the area where the tamiya toe in/out rod would had been anchored. I've opening this space up in the diffuser. Hopefully increasing it's downforce. I've gone with an 2008 spec diffuser. I need all the grip I can get, as I'm installing a 9t Brushless motor in the RWD car! Next time I hope to update you on the steering and fitting the motor in the car.
  15. Hi All, update on the project. Here's a front wing I've designed on CAD, I'm thinking about getting it rapid prototyped, to save time making it because it's quite an detailed intricate part. Plus it's the part most likely to be damaged first! I've also been thinking about a livery for the model. Yes it's the HRT livery from last year but I think it looks awesome. I'm not completely decided on this yet, and as for sponsors.....would anyone like to sponsor (site mods?) or even buy the car once finished?.... As for the model, I've machine some rear wheel uprights, as opposed to using Tamiya items. This have the same 'drum' appearance as the F1 cars, and allow cleaner air flow around the wheels.
