Hi All
Jonathan from Bury st Edmunds here. 7 weeks into the hobby as a complete newb apart from my second hand Boomerang I had as a kid. Iv'e been a life long BMX/MTB'er an afer a few very hard slams an injuries I've finnaly come to the realisation at 49 I'm getting old! SO, winding in the MTB an was allways interested in RC an crawlers. I asked another MTB friend who is into crawlers for advice on a cheap, fun no worries if I smash it crawler. He showed me the FMS Power Wagon an I HAD to have one! soon after that I saw the Ford pick up body an found out about the Max Smasher so..... HAD to have one of them as well! Then, I decided I wanted a 1/10 truck/buggy to get me out the house an into the woods an again. The Arrma Vorteks was recomended and purchased, 4WD kit fitted. Happy with those trucks but, 1/10 crawlers started to tempt me.... I was into the FTX at the price range I was looking at but was recommended the Absima CR3.4. Went for the Khambra as it in the price range I was looking at, especially at £100 off! Gotta say not overly impressed with this truck as the others I have. The stock tyres rub on the body shell out of the box so obviously I ordered bigger ones :'D currently upgrading this truck with metal parts but, looking into 'comp' style bodies as wasn't a big fan of the FJ anyway....
Mostly I'm here looking to find spots a clubs in the Norfolk,Suffolk an Cambs area. Meet ups and events. REALLY looking forward to this hobby!!!
Welcome, if it’s crawling trails you are after, Thetford forest is always a good free visit.Otherwise there are a number of tracks/ sites with crawling tracks/trails.
Cambridge RC raceway has its newly refurbished massive oval for 1/5 and 1/8th scale, they have spent a lot of time and effort building a crawling area in the woodland next to the track. Check out FB for more info.
Further a field there is HNMC with a dedicated crawler course, very extensive and well looked after these days.
Beds electric car club, have moved sites and are in the progress building new trail/ track.

Out of nowhere pulled the 5ive out of a 5 year hibernation, initially would not start, quickly solved, the coil had dropped. Then wired up the Dark Soul twin servo direct power harness and got it correct the first time…😂.
My local raceway has had no activity this year, thought it had closed for good, but found last night it will be back up and running next week, I had no prior knowledge before getting the 5ive, spooky or what…..😮😃😎

Diff oil choices have been made, 10k up front, 7k in the rear.
Trying to cover all options of use, it will
used on an outdoor astro track, indoor carpet and the garden grass track…..
Looks like once the diffs are in, there will be a lot to disassemble for removing and change the oil….

Well as soon as the words ‘Classic’, ‘Vintage’ and ‘Legendary’ are used then the price will reflect…🤣.

The Javelin is part of Kyosho legendary series re release buggies from back in the day, it shares the same platform as the Turbo Optima.
The quality of these and presentation is second to none. But that said they are not cheap, but hey what is in this hobby is….😂
Just need to do a little research on the diff weight oil peeps have been using, the manual shows the use of grease, that’s not happening on my watch….😂

Just finished work, not back for week, so the build will start in earnest….😃…..better get a move on, a Top Force will be inbound very shortly…😎

Haven’t done a build thread for a while so this one deserves it, a classic from the ‘80s with a modern twist.
Great to see how the style of packing has been replicated, with parts on display. Option of chain and belt drive, ball bearings and tyre foams included. It will be having a Savox 1258, HW XR10 justock and 13.5T.

I still love mine, but I am lucky to have a number of areas to run them in the middle of nowhere and have two tracks very close.
You have got ask yourself how much you are will to spend and continue spending on all the shine upgrades….😎

Yes it is worth it if you,
1. Have the space to run it with annoying other peeps and safely, I am not a fan of peeps running them in public parks.
2. You will have to spend your hard earned cash on maintenance and number of upgrades, kill switch being the first.
3. If you maintain the car, it will run with very little issues.
Just some some of my humble thoughts…..

My nitro renaissance continues with one I REALLY wanted back in the day but it just never happened. Today the HPI Savage arrived in X 4.6 flavour!
Threw in a cheeky offer on eBay which got accepted - £220 posted for this beauty completely RTR including a set of spare wheels & tyres, spare set of shocks, a brand new unpainted shell and a shed load of parts. Bargain!
Looks like she's barely been used!
HNMC basher track FTW…😆 -

After the pointers that you all provided, thanks again, I’ve spent hours looking at this!
The Kronos XTR has been behaving recently, no breakages, and really does drive and go well.
Strangely, it has made me think that the Radix is less able where we drive, though it has proven to be tough, with no mechanical breakages.
So, my thoughts on Racing Truggies?
Looking at the RC8T, pillow balls make me afraid, though it is the best value of the true race cars. No bashing videos of this that I can find? My experience with the Kronos/Radix suggest that the strength of a buggy does not necessarily transfer to a Truggy platform.
The Losi 8ight XTE, it looks very capable and strong, but the example I found regards chassis flex suggests that rear central driveshafts bend quite often. I’ve seen suggestion that fitting a Mojave front centre drive shaft helps, but surely that will just stress the diff drives? There don’t appear to be parts available to make it stronger either.
If the Tekno ET48.3 we’re still available, I’d have bought one! There are parts to strengthen the chassis, should flex start to break things. However, they are no more and the ET48 2.0 doesn’t look like the 48.3 strengthening parts will fit? Fitting MT410 parts to an ET48.3 chassis has crossed my mind, but the extra parts needed, shock towers, wing mount etc made my head spin.
I’m going to keep the Kronos and wait for the upgraded parts, it is fantastic when it’s working.
But that is not the end of this?
Converting a Hobao Hyper ST Pro to electric, using the Radix as a doner is looking like a great project?
Resist, resist!
If the ET48.3 we’re still available, I’d have bought one.
Cheers
Steve
Racer being used as a basher, I have the 3.2T which will be raced and bashed. Parts are cheap....
