  1. Oswestry is very far at all. I know the Barmouth sand dunes where I live is a really good place for big airs and no risk of totalling the car, well almost no risk. It's really good fun. Black rock is a good place, but its so flat it's almost as if someone levelled it all off for 2 miles long. Anyway, if your down these parts, just let me know. I think there is another person who could also meet up, so that's 3 so far.
  2. hey, I live in Barmouth Awesome, I'm up for a meetup, at the dunes, it's a great place, its my favourite bashing ground ! You can get some serious air without worrying about the landing and breaking your car.
  3. Seems a lonely hobby being interested in RC cars in North Wales, shame really because there are endless places to go bashing ! If you live near why don't we get the ball rolling and have a bash together ?
  4. I just use compressed air, 150psi though a 2mm air-gun jet gets everything spotless in less than a minute. Very useful.
  5. I'm gona try bumping this see if there are any people in Gwynedd who are up for a bash ?
  6. About the swearing, bulls have them and its not a terribly bad word at all. It made me angry that his opinion was based on false assumptions. If he only read what I said....
  7. preheating the engine at a bashing site simply isn't an option for me and it should't be required for a box to turn the engine over. Also, loosening the plug i don't do because it's not good for the aluminium threads and I believe it's just a hack, a hack that i used only when it was absolutely tight at break-in. Besides all these things, if they were required and absolutely necessary would be and should be mentioned in the manual, which it isn't.
  8. Yep, all the time, I was freeing the flywheel from TDC every 5 minutes because the switch seems to be dodgey and not keeping the power on consistently. Seems its not just me then, because I've read many reports on other forums of the same thing. Thank you for reading my posts properly btw, and having an opinion based on what is actually true. If anyone wants the Losi Box and batteries... Let me know.
  9. btw i preheated the engine to 90C for 10 mins during break-in before starting the engine. Still the belt broke. So incorrect use I don't think so.
  10. not really, like I said the engine was broken in already and I've still broken 3 belts. the box should be able to turn the engine over from cold, then why accuse me not using something I know very well how to use. incorrect use huh ? so i place the car, with the broken-in engine on the box, and push down, ziiiiiiiiip, belt breaks yet again. So tell me, how is that incorrect use ? Seriously I don't get it, and the box isn't free is it ? not when you have to buy the charging equipment and the batteries. Read what I said before posting please. thank you.
  11. [edited for swearing.....which we would prefer you didn't.....] the engine was broken in exactly 2 litres ago. 3 of the 4 belts have broken in normal use.
  12. I just lined the pins up and got going. yes the wheel is a bit big and its a very tight fit in regards to hitting the chassis, but other than that it was a doddle.
  13. Do you think the starter box supplied with the Losi 8ight 2.0 and 8ight T 2.0 is completely sub standard ? I think it is. What do you think >? My experience is that I'd be better buying a monkey, feeding it nuts and making it spin a wheel rather than use this box, because after 3 litres of fuel I've used 4 belts and nearly worn out the rubber wheel, with the switch not contacting properly and not enough torque to spin the motor at TDC This may not be so much of a PITA if i hadn't travelled 10 miles to my RC stomping ground on the beach to have the belt snap, yet again today. Not only that if I was stinking rich I could probably afford to pay
  14. it is a truggy ? tank is already rahter large, it just uses fuel at an incredible rate its a stock Losi 8ight t 2.0 and i'm quite happy to leave the ratios as they are tbh. Airoplane tanks , now that sounds rather good. ty for that. The car already runs hot, I hate to think how hot it would run with lower nitro fuel. Anyway I was thinking along the lines of modifying a small sturdy vessel of equal capacity and connecting that in-line to the original tank. I know there is room i might just go and try it anyway see what happens.
  15. Just wondering if there is a way to increase the capacity of fuel on-board a losi 8ight t 2.0 because I find the run times rather low. Currently 10 mins is what I'm getting. I would like to double that to around 20 mins which would mean doubling the tank size. Is there a way to do that easily and cheaply ?
  16. nothing wrong with a travel hair-drier... I get my temps up to 90C in about 3 mins with the one I use by resting it flat upon the cooling head. Of course it's 240V but that suits me fine.
  17. so the engine won't turn over ? This happens a lot to me, it's the piston getting stuck at TDC, so to get it free I use a small screwdriver and turn the flywheel anticlockwise, knocking the screwdriver gently with a clenched fist. Be very careful, cos trying to get the box to start it whilst its stuck at TDC will just break the belt in the starter box.

    OUCH !

i had exactly the same on a Kyosho GX15. What i found is that the original conrod didn't have an oil port hole on either the big or the small end which i think cause the overheating as is evident on your conrod too. Anyway, the replacement part, came with the oil ports in both small and big ends and i have since had no problems at all, and i have taken the back of the engine off to check for overheating and all is hunkydori. Point being, I think Kyosho tried saving a buck by eliminating the oil ports but then realised it wasn't such a good idea, and later included them in the replacement parts.
  19. hotter plug = thinner platinum coil = less reactive to the alcohol content of the fuel = less catalysis ----> less coil heat the greater the nitro content (less alcohol) = greater retardation of timing and visa versa no ? just asking, cos this is what I understand so far from reading various articles
  20. what the hell, got no experience with the other truggies, but I have a Losi 8ight T 2.0 which is wicked fast, in fact so fast I'm really scared to WOT it. however the Losi starter box is a pile of ****, with belts breaking every 5 minutes.
  21. this is what i do. If Irun the Losi down a long straight of 50 yards WOT the temps go to around 125C but in short burst its around 116C even though the recommended is 90-110C, having tuned the engine like you say, rich but so so rich its slows it down i.e peak performance +1/4 turn to the rich. thanks for the info guys
  22. Whilst on this topic, can i open the discussion a bit and ask what really do engine temps really mean ? Because say an engine, like the Losi 454, found in the 8ight t 2.0 is recommended by losi to run between 90 -110C, say on a cold day like it's been recently below 0C the engine temps would be lower and on a hot day they would be higher, even though the fuel mixture is exactly same, disregarding the any other variables just for arguments sake. Say I ran the engine in Dubai in 40C the engine temps no matter what i would do would be a lot higher, more than likely higher than 110C, even if the fuel mix was right. So am i right in saying that the engine temp is really not a good thing to go by ? Just as long as the mixture is right. The way i do it is to richen it up until it slows down the engine, then lean it until it gets to peak performance then richen it again a 1/4 turn. If the mix is slightly rich but the engine still runs hot, then am i right in saying there's nothing to worry about ? I don't really know , that's why I'm asking. thanks
