Hi all,
about 9 years ago I got into Touring Cars at Barley Mow Racing Club in Birtley but never stuck to it as I made the mistake of going too fast too early and spent half my time waiting on parts. My other mistake was going into it too much, spending way too much and in short it became a regret! Previously, some 10 years before that, I was using Touring cars at Oxclose school but ultimately that became a travel issue.
as Barley Mow now do mostly GT12 (I was going to do that, bought the lot then never used it etc), I’m thinking of going down the Buggy route over at Nissan in Washington. Problem is that my knowledge is old and a lot has happened since then to push what I did know out of my brain I also have a son now so money’s not what it once was!
As I have seen on this forum and YouTube, the FTX Vantage seems to be a popular cheap point to start however I remember my old days of overdoing it and thinking the Brushed version may be the better to start. My understanding is that any Brushless kit would be a straight swap in the future. I was wondering if anyone knew of just a rolling chassis option however as I still have many of my old parts, notably a good set of servos, battery chargers, 2.4 ghz transmitter and receiver as well as the older frequency transmitter and receiver. I also have a whole load of high grade wire for soldering connections, pinions etc. As such a rolling chassis seems a cheaper option as all I would need is what is missing.
on that note, are there any other options for a 4wd buggy people would reccomend? Does anyone here go to the Washington club who could reccomend a setup to use for a steady start?
When it comes to non-LiPo batteries, what should I look for? For LiPo setups, I forgot the difference between 45v and 60v esc’s so that would be helpful.
Finally, I used to use a transponder. There seems to be a variety of far cheaper ones these days on eBay. Does anyone know if they are of any use?
if there is an article somewhere that covers all this, that would be greatly appreciated
much thanks.
