  1. Clarkson is very good at getting information across, even when using comedy, and I am enjoying the series.

I would recommend digging out the few war documentaries that he has done as they a very impressive.

Had this set for christmas around 85  been looking for another on and off over the years.  I was willing to pay over the top on this one as it still had the plastic cover insert.  But i was the only bidder so got it for way less than expected.  Think it was because the market is flooded with them.

Damn that looks in good condition with little yellowing on grey pieces.

I have a love of the 8860 as it was the first technic model I was bought as a kid. I still have the model although it is probably made of very few (If any) of the original pieces after surviving my childhood. 😛

Yeah those are quite a bit bigger.

Yeah, of course. I've been meaning to upload it to the build thread/Quantum threads anyway. Basically just get some tubing 8mm outer diameter, 6mm internal (one I got Matte 3k Carbon Fiber Tube Length 1000mm All sizes OD From 8mm to 40mm Twill | eBay), and then some 6mm wall plugs (Wall Plugs 6mm x 28mm Drill Plug with Expansion & Anchor for Screw DIY Fixing | eBay), cut it to size (28cm if memory serves was about right), bang the wall plugs in the ends and fit it in. There's already holes in the diff/body post mounts for it 🙂

I was looking at doing something like this on my Hyper/ST conversions. Not sure if it is physically possible but a very similar idea.

So to clarify, these don't really work then?

Fastrax Aluminium Twin Fan Heatsink Unit (Blue) FAST36-1 (modelsport.co.uk)

They can only help keep the motor warm, but may just blast warm air at a warm service. They won't stop your battery cells cooking.

As mentioned earlier knocking the gearing down will help, and it will probably be my solution, or take regular looooong breaks in the shade on a hot day.

I think my problem was that I wasn't taking enough breaks, and when I did the car the car was still out in the midday sun so hardly cooling. (My tan looks great thanks. 😉 )

    Ah well...

  6. Might have made the wrong decision yesterday to go out in the middle of the hot day and bash my Hyper hard. May have killed one of my batteries in doing so. 😢

Very mild puffing, but enough to split its solid case:

Put it on a storage charge for the moment whilst I make my mind up if it is toast or not (The puffing 95% went as it cooled.)
