  1. Thanks Matt, that is certainly some food for thought. The servo looks like a keeper and I have wish listed it. Still not convinced by LiPo but that battery certainly looks like good value. The motor/ESC combo seems to come with enough options to keep a programmer happy but I have not heard of that make before. Do you (or anyone else) have any experience with it? I am of course a noob so it is quite likely I haven't heard of it even if it is a well respected brand. EDIT: Forgot to mention I already have a Protoform Mazda 6 set aside as a pet painting project. No holes drilled in it yet so now it is set aside for this car. On that note are there usually rules on shells at races? I have often thought about lowering the roof on one to make it more stream line.
  2. Well I have bought some spare switches now. If it goes again I will replace until I run out then likely go with the twist and heat shrink method. Setting up the ESC in the future shouldn't be a problem as I have no intention of replacing it and it is set just fine for now, it's basic anyway and only has options for lipo/nimh and reverse/no reverse. Really though I think the issue was not with my car but with my friend's, once he took the shell off I saw the chisel like bumper, similar to this: I will be providing him with pipe lagging and zip ties xD
  3. It's cool, I found what I needed on E-Bay. What I needed to look for was a SPST slide switch. The problem with your method is that I would not know what wires I need. Electronics was never my strongest subject but I'm willing to improve n.n Thanks again ibo for your time.
  4. Thanks for the help but all those switches appear to have wires and connectors attached. I don't have anywhere to plug in a new switch just the two wires that come from the ESC. You can see the switch on the second picture here http://www.modelsport.co.uk/modelsport-uk-sniper-rv-12-assault/rc-car-products/37403 I need something like that which I can solder the wires onto.
  5. Whilst racing around a car park last night my friend hit the side of my car with his. The result is the small slider on/off switch which comes from the ESC has broken into pieces. The switch is a slider type which had three prongs on to attach wires and just an on and off position. Where can I get a replacement? What is this kind of switch called so I can search ebay? Any advice is appreciated.
  6. One of the easiest ways to fix these things is with a Windows restore. Roll back a couple of days before the problem occurred then just avoid those dodgey sites Seriously though restore is a great function that I always at least try before going through anti virus/spyware/malware programs or registry hacks.
  7. You could both run Windows XP under a virtual machine. That means you can open a window on your computer that essentially has another operating system running inside of it. Check out VMWare I'm sure they do a free version of their software: http://www.vmware.com Beyond this all I can suggest is googling and hope to find someone who has had the same problem but fixed it.
  8. I'm in that area (Ware to be exact). I'd love to help but I'm a complete novice so probably not the best idea to trust me with your pride and joy. Which shop did you try? The one I went to in Broxbourne last week does repairs etc although they weren't exactly helpful, perhaps you will have a better experience! I found a couple of fairly local shops on this site: http://www.rcmodels.org/shops.htm#southeast perhaps worth a ring around. A long shot might be Marquee Models in Harlow. They haven't done RC for years but the owner, Keith, is exceptionally helpful and might be able to offer some suggestion if nothing else.
  9. Thanks for the advice guys. Looks like I will be avoiding that unknown chassis then! If anyone else has any suggestions on a 2nd hand racing spec chassis to buy then that would be appreciated but so far it looks like the Schumacher's are popular here. Does anyone have any input on the new motor I want to get for my TT-01? It is the LRP V10 Spec 5 14x2 since I have only owned one motor I can't really gauge how fast this one will be just by a turns rating. Will it be suitable for my TT-01 or will it perhaps be too fast? Any advice is greatly appreciated. @doodle moo What is a hobbyking set up?
  10. Hello, I have been driving around my TT-01R Type E in car parks mostly but I have also taken it to my local races (carpet). Now having thrashed it for a week I have a few questions. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! 1. My car feels slower This might just be down to now having seen much faster cars at the races or just to my driving ability improving. However is there anything which could have happened in 1 week of thrashing that would make my car slower? 2. Tyre wear I bought these Fastrax 10-Spoke Slicks Touring Car Wheel & Tyre Set I have used these tyres 3 times, twice on tarmac once on carpet and these rather alarming wear lines have appeared on all 4 tyres: Is this just because they are cheap tyres? I also thought that maybe I had too steep a camber on the wheels so I have tweaked it down a bit. If anyone has any ideas let me know. 3. Rolling over whilst racing I found that if I accelerated hard out of a hair-pin bend my car would roll onto it's side or roof. Is the solution to simply accelerate more gently out of corners or can I do something with my set up to stop this happening? 4. Upgrading this car I would like to make this car a bit faster. I understand that the chassis is not good enough to keep up with the pro's at my local races so I don't want to spend too much I just want to make this thing a bit faster for car park bashing. I think really the only thing I would buy is a new motor. I was looking at this: LRP V10 Spec 5 14x2 is this a suitable motor for my TT-01R? If this isn't a good choice could someone suggest something please? I run these batterys: Orion Sport Power Pack 4500 (7.2V) and this ESC: Modelsport UK Sniper RV-12 Assault if that helps. 5. Racing spec Eventually I will likely want to have kit good enough to keep up at the races (carbon chassis, brushless motor, lipo). It appears that the decent chassis are rather expensive so I will probably look for something 2nd hand. At my club most run xray or schumacher but I have also seen team associated and trf cars online which look suitable. Does anyone have any suggestion on what to look for (and search for in ebay)? Essentially I would like something that spares can be obtained easily and is fairly durable (rather than just the fastest thing going). If there are other brands out there worth having please let me know. 6. What is this? I have found this chassis, looks good to an untrained eye for
  11. Thanks for the advice. All his cans and the one I already own have the PS-x markings on the lid so I have no idea what he was on about. I'm sure I won't be going back there as the owner was less than encouraging and helpful. Shame really I usually like to support local business =/
  12. I have just returned from my local rc shop with a new shell in hand after messing up the paint job on my first one so badly... So this will be the 2nd shell I have ever painted. What I wanted to do was a candy pink shell with white racing stripes, I was looking at the tamiya candy pink and tamiya white rattle cans. Now what has me confused is that the guy in the shop told me that the tamiya paints aren't suitable to paint rc shells as the paint will come off and instead I was offered a range of humbroll cans in less than inspiring colours. Now searching the forums here and the internet it seems that tamiya is a popular choice! So what is going on here? Are tamiya paints good to use and is this guy working on old info or something? Or is he right and tamiya should be avoided? If anyone can help clear this up it would be appreciated!
  13. Thanks for the welcomes! @old-engines I'm sure this forum will become very useful indeed. I already have a number of questions which I will ask in another thread once I have them all sorted in my head. I hope your car arrives soon, I'm useless at waiting so very glad mine came quickly! There is a quick question I do have now though if anyone can answer it would be great. Today it has been raining, I have made plans to go to a carpark with my friend this eve and mess around with our new cars. It's not raining anymore but the tarmac will be wet, is it a good idea to take the cars out or should it be avoided? @DannyP I got the Tamiya TT-01R type E chassis kit and bought everything else I needed to get going. So I think the spec is something like: Chassis: TT-01 type E Motor: Tamiya lightly tuned ESC: Modelsport UK Sniper RV-12 Assault Transmitter/Reciever/Servo: Acoms all in one pack thingy Battery: Orion Sport Power Pack 4500 Hop-ups: Ball bearings CVA super mini shocks Alloy prop shaft Adjustable ride height/toe in/camber Various alloy parts eg wheel nuts, dog bones etc Tweaked gears Spur: 58T Pinion: 22T The shell I pretty much ruined by attempting to paint it but that is why I just bought the cheapest one going to practice on. So here are a couple of pics without the shell as I'm too ashamed to show it xD There is a small story to this purchase. I had origianally ordered a TT-01 kit with shell and all included but after seeing my friend build his I was not so confident in certain parts of it's construction. Mostly the lack of ball bearings and the plastic prop shaft. I knew I simply wouldn't be happy to have a car which was full of bushes that I had no confidence in. So I got my order changed over. Once I got this chassis kit I knew I had made the right decision, I was a lot happier building this and felt that it would both run smoother and last longer.
  14. Hi everyone! I finished putting together my first RC car this weekend! Got to say a hell of a lot of fun... can't drive it for love nor money (well into things I'm good at just not around them). Plenty of practice is needed and that will hopefully come from trying out my local races as I discovered they are about a 5min walk from my house. Well that's it I guess, just wanted to say hello! I'll post back later with details of my first car if anyone is interested i'm sure for the pro's it wont be anything too exciting.
