I think you may need to return the ESC for replacement or perhaps the whole lot if they ask you. Seems you got a faulty ESC at least the fault appeared quickly.
Have you contacted the retailer for support?

It looks about the same in the pictures but have you been able to find out if the dimensions are the same? Or is that what you're asking?

What's the cost difference and what's your budget? 1/7 sounds like 6s makes more sense but I have no experience with either so it might be better to wait for other people to help you also.

What are you doing for gearing and what is your budget? You may find you are happy with a 4 pole 1/8 style motor and speed controller but it really depends on the design of you machine. I don't see a problem with a motor of that size and strength chucking tennis balls at you.
It might be overkill though - you might be ok with a cheap 9t 1/10 combo from ebay and that would certainly be cheaper. Maybe try that first. This is a difficult question to answer without knowing the gearing and design of the machine.

4s or 6s is the size and voltage of the lipo battery that the model uses, 6s is 50% more voltage and therefore upto 50% more speed, needed for high speeds on some of the bigger or heavier 1/8 (and recommended for some of the motors).
6s batteries will cost you more and you may need to spend more on a charger. I would still recommend going 6s if you are new though, you can always change the throttle endpoint on a decent transmitter if it's really too fast and that way you would be getting the most out of the hobby and the money you spend on a model.
There are plenty of people out there happy with 2s or 3s models though, perhaps more on the 1/10 scale of things.
Most of my experience having said that is with 2s , and I got a couple of 1/10 setups going with just 2s that seemed plenty fast. I have an Agama A215E that runs 4s (can't do 6s with the ESC...) and it's really fast (the acceleration is very impressive with a 1950kv hacker motor), like I wouldn't want it faster or I'd be smashing it all the time. Even on 4s I have had a couple of bad tumbles with it needing maintenance or parts. It's amazing fun and you can get over an hour run time with just 2 4s batteries. I was attracted to nitro but all my experience is with electric and the noise puts me off. Also it's maybe not as public friendly for bashing.
I mainly buy second hand and I wish I could get out more with my models but they are there for when I need them.

As for me today, not sure if I will go out with a car today, not really feeling it (had a very serious difficult morning) but it's possible and the younger brother is popping in later and he has a couple of cars so who knows. Slight drizzle last night hasn't ruled it out quite yet. I am hoping to get more use out of my cars as spring approaches and the weather clears.
We end up driving to the bash spots some times so that plus the lipo (mainly re-setting to storage volts) palava means it's not as easy to just grab a car and go as I would hope. Fortunately I can now think of Two really good spots quite near our main place.
(thanks for the advice on skate parks breaking cars I'm yet to try one. I have a local BMX dirt area).

Took out my Agama A215e yesterday and this morning. Got it a bit wet yesterday so it cut out in a puddle - thankfully after a quick spray of contact cleaner and letting it dry it was fine today. Local park was fun - but forward flip meant it landed on the rear wing and broke both plastic clip mounts (and bent the rear driveshaft) - then I lost a wheel nut to a speed run.
got over 20 mins running the 1/8 e buggy so it's all good. Battery is almost at storage charge now. Might go out with a DESC210 later - love that car.

Was all ready to take 1 or 2 out and realised my transmitter is at another location! Argh!

I am not looking forward to the task of cycling my 12 or so 2S Lipo batteries with various chargers, I think I must be up to 6 chargers with another one on the way* (planning to rig up another Xbox PSU for that one). They have been on storage volts for around 14 months now and sitting in a box under a bed so I assume I will loose a few to general lipo decay (second hand items mainly and I did loose a couple last year).
Will take me a good few hours at another property address. Hobby calls for it though!
*I paid $24.71 for this shipped, still little customs charge (ing) from China. It looks like another I have and it has a nice 10w or 20w discharge rate.

the ESC has a power button that I have not seen before. It's not a flick switch like all others I've seen it is a push button. Well 2 push buttons. Push to hold to turn on and off. Both buttons seem to do the same??? This is not shown in the Instructions tho so not sure.
3s lipo also arrived. Charger due tomorrow. (never had lipo before?)
So I got the motor and ESC in place and being so impatient plugged in my lipo.
Held down a power button. 2 beeps. Esc fan kicks in. Then nothing. Before I panic I assume the battery would have been postage in storage state so maybe voltage too low to get motor or servo going.
My next question is gearing rated.
I am going to be running stock gears. 19t pinion and apologies but didn't check spur before it went back together.
I am looking for acceleration. Quick burst of speed. Not top speed. Am I better off sticking with this setup or changing to bigger pinion and smaller spur.
I've read so much about gearing my head is fried lol.

Jon good choice of first car!Make sure to read your manuals and ask many questions. 3S may be a bit much for this model so try and get a selection of pinions and gear appropriately.
I prefer to buy second hand as the config is mostly fun

I have a vape which uses rechargeable 20700 cells (they are mainly all safety now with their internal circuits - though especiall in terms of 18650 NOW NOT ALL OF THEM!). !
We could charge them with RC devices though as I only need one VAPE MOD and have 6 or so (3*2 sets) of 20700 Lithium +++// / Ion cells (ranging from 2500 mah per CELL or UNIT to 3000 ...) I just use a USB 5V 2A charger and another that can tell me more information that is mains powered.
I have no idea where it is at the moment though! Nicotine + Food Additives is much safer than much forms of cigars rollies beedies and tobacco (which have accelerants and many chems - and tobacco leaches radioactive molecules from the soil!!). I am happy with this mod and it's available on the bay (don't get it without the cells!). I am using an Aspire Atlantis. I have the extention it is a litte bit fiddly so I don't normally use its).
The bottom cover has come loose (it seems a deliveraby bad design even with it's all alloy construction) and as it doesn''t use spring contacts (!) I need some advice on how to fix it DIY style. My brother suggests thin magnets I however feel that as I do sometimes swap the cells around there should be a better solution. I would rather not solder a mm or 1.3 to the contacts on the loose black base piece.

PS Nicotine is harmful and I would ask those under 21 years to not reply at this thread. I understand an RC forum might well attract a younger readership!
PPS the pictured cells are not included in the boxed products ,they are pretty neat really, they are Molicel INR20700A 2950 mah 20700# (not 21700?) from https://18650.uk/product/molicel-inr20700/ (you can also pick them up from ebay I think!).
I think I need to extend the contacts somehow, preferably on the inside of the device, I do have the tools to take the box apart and perhaps I will need a little solder! If I extend the inside contacts by 1mm or so the lid may get looser over time. The device is off the market already ?? EEK

I would buy it just for the engineering and the fun of building but honestly I haven't used any of my many RCs for many months despite our return of nice weather. So it would just be like building a meccano or similar in some ways, just much more impressive.
I'll leave it to you folks.

Sorry for the inaccuracy - yes storage charge is 3.8 per cell so 7.6 total for a 2s. Within 0.1v is ok though, lower probably better than higher (slightly).
As for storing the lipos outside, I would be wary of temperature fluctuations, these may shorten your lipo life. But if safety is your priority outside is probably very slightly safer.

1) You are correct though many balance charge every time. For safety try for at least 1 time in 3 balancing and check the cell voltages with a multimeter after each run. Storage charge will also balance so you should be fine.
2) the FAST charge option simply doesn't insert the last few bits of charge into the battery, cutting down the charge time. It's safe to use at any time. Unless your batteries specifically say you can go over, aim for 1C charge, so for example 4 amps max for a 4000mah battery or 6 amps for 6000mah
3) Most people storage charge a battery after each use. Unless you are very careful about how much you use each battery, and can stop using each at close to 7.4 volts (IIRC), you should do the same.

Sounds exciting! It's a great hobby but my brother and I have hardly been out in 6 months with winter etc. We have mad fun when we do though. I wish there was a local offroad club nearby all I have is onroad and that **** is just too fast.

Hmm Yes Chris I feel where you're coming from. I've been there when every bloody screw was precious and you need to save for dozens of months for a crap battery upgrade. But I suggest things are good now! You can get a nice basher that's not Tamiya hmm B****CKS these days just get an ex race car of here or build an entry level still-it's-better-than-ya-ya-Tamiya build maybe like I recently did. Honestly buying used is prolly better. But the bashability is SO much fun I get the feeling even though you're quite in to this hobby you're missing out with your sweet descriptions of skate parks (never bashed in one) and Traxxas and HPI (quite USA centric things).

That's sweet. Looks like a shelf queen to me. My favourites are the ones that look authentic and impressive and also could go for the occasional bash. I find that the proper bashers often don't look quite as good as the real prizes and shelf queens we see here.
I have to get more into the aesthetics of my models though, they are mainly functional. There are a lot of them, though !?!

I had a quick look on ebay for you but nothing really struck me as good sorry.
Be careful of the motors with fins cut into them they are often smaller motors put in a bigger can to make them cheaper and they are worth avoiding.
the problem is often the ESC in these combos - ideally you want an ESC that can handle a nice fast motor or 3s in future and most combos are just 45A or 60 amps.
If you don't mind buying second hand there are bargains to be had. You might want to try a wanted ad here if you don't mind second hand. As long as it's working it's unlikely to break unless you are unlucky or get it wet (or get the gearing badly wrong).
