My Hyper has been sitting on a shelf gathering dust for 5 years, so I have decided to bring it back to life! When I shelved it, it still had fuel in the tank and I don't think I had used after run oil either.
Spec: Hyper 8.5 Pro, Savox Servo's, Go! 25 Engine, JP-4 Exhaust, Spektrum 2.4Ghz Receiver & Futaba 3PK transmitter
So at the weekend I dusted it off, put the batteries on charge, gave it a wipe over and checked to see what is needed to get it running.
I replaced the fuel tank as it had a lot of gunk in the bottom. I checked the fuel lines and they seem ok, I was able to blow through the pipes. Checked & tightened screws/bolts.
Engine
It took a fair amount of force to pull the pull start, but it loosed up after a few pulls. I tried it a couple of hours later and it was the same, it took a lot to get it to pull first time, but then loosened up. The pull start string is very tacky/sticky, feels like a glue covering the string.
Electronics
Batteries charged, I checked the receiver & servo's and found everything to work!! Throttle, brake and steering all seem fine, even the transmitter still had all my settings! Batteries lasted about 5 minutes, so I've ordered some new ones.
So at the moment I am waiting on fuel (Byron 25%) as that's what I previously used, a hump pack and battery pack for the transmitter.
Question
Will the engine be ok, or should I clean it first? I would prefer to do as little as possible to get it running. Should I re-tune the engine to base settings and go from there, or can I just put some fuel in it and see if it runs, it was a really hot summer last time I had it running, similar to today.
