  1. Just a quick one that I hope someone can help with. I am working with a school on the 4x4 in schools challenge and using a Losi Mini Rock crawler as a base vehicle. We will be converting it to 4 wheel steering and have everything apart from the servo itself. My original order has been on back order since October and I thought I had ordered the correct part from Modelsport but in my rush got one from a Micro not a mini the correct one is out of stock with Modelsport as well and my original order with Wheelspin is still on back order so I assume that there is a supply issue. As we will be splitting the signal from the Channel 1 output of the Rx does it have to be an identical servo? If not can I use any servo or does it have to be a specific type? I think that the original servo is a digital one so will that mean that I need a digital for the other end? I have some old 1/10 servos at home and with time rapidly running away from us if we could get one of those in tomorrow it would really help keep us on track. Thanks in advance.
  2. The main reason I went from 1:5 petrol back to 1:12 nitro was the cost. It is a difficult one. On one hand it is your money on the other I'm sure your parents want you to learn the value of a pound and would rather see some, what they would consider, maturity in you putting some money aside. For example when I had my first "proper" job at 14/15 I was already starting to put a little bit of money away for my first car (1:1 not RC ) Maybe meet them half way? In your shoes I'd have a chat with your dad, explain that it is a hobby that you enjoy which beats spending you money on booze and fags like some of the kids I used to go to school with and find out what his issue is. When you have mortgages, bills and other stuff to pay for your mindset does change with regards to money. That was why I gave up on 1:5 petrol despite having a good job, my own home and a few quid in the bank, I simply couldn't justify it to myself.
  3. Well nearly a month and no progress due to household jobs that needed doing I'm going to try and get this under way again next week and was after a bit of advice. The brushless kit that I have has little removable sockets that go into the ESC so I can confidently solder these in place knowing that I can remove them if needed. What I'm not sure on it what battery connector to opt for. I was going to got for a Traxxas TRX connector so I could run the packs in my Slash but I'm not convinced that is such a great idea now. Would I be better off with some 4mm bullet connectors?
  4. Thanks for the replies. I've been reading a thread that came up when googling which is discussing the racing at the club that I quite fancy racing with. Sounds like it is good fun, some people seem to tweak and tune to the Nth degree whereas others blow the fluff out and put it back in the box ready for the next race There are two clubs that are viable from a travel point of view but one is about 20 minutes closer, only races minis and seems to have more races during their season. They also run closer to box settings which is better for me starting out. I think I'll have to ask if I can come down for a look at the next meet!
  5. I've been thinking for a while that I quite fancy getting in to some form of racing. Now my criteria are fun, low cost (relatively speaking) and a good entry level for someone who has dabbled with RC's since forever but has never raced before. Initially I was thinking Mardave stocks or bangers but after doing a bit of digging on the internet I've found a couple of local clubs that race Tamiya M chassis cars with only minimal mods/hop ups allowed. Sounds perfect especially as I'm a huge fan of Tamiya cars and front wheel drive. Just wondered if anyone else on here races Tamiya Minis? What the deal is, how you find it, would you recommend it etc. Also what should I be looking at as a race "kit" to get me started (batteries, tyres etc.) Thanks for any advice and apologies if this should be in the racing section but I thought it more of a general topic.
  6. Nitro is far from dying IMO. I still enjoy nitro despite making a shift with all but one of my models to electric. What really has got my attention is HPI's talk of a smaller scale petrol. That could have me well and truly back in the internal combustion camp.
  7. Final price drops before going to the bay.
  8. I loved petrol but didn't get on with 1:5 scale (or the cost of parts ) This has the potential to be AWESOME!
  9. Cheers! If I get the design right I might make up a silicone mould and vacuum cast some. On my old FF-01 I just used to use a cable tie but this damages the battery cables after a bit and I want to do this one properly
  10. As I've already mentioned the FF-01 came minus a couple of bits. I managed to order a body fitting kit from ebay to replace the missing rear body mounts. At the same time I also ordered a manual, probably come in handy for the
  11. Ok so as the last post suggests, heavyleftthumb sorted me out with a nice FF-01 so it is all systems go. From this point I hope to show some points about the build as it progresses. Firstly, sorry if some people see this as an on-road car rather than a replica, I was in two minds where this should be and this is where I have ended up. I think you guys might appreciate the detail that I go into with my build logs more anyway Please note that the following posts will be a cut and paste from my blog (http://rob-stirling.blogspot.com/) to save me time, just in case I make any odd references...
