  1. i've been having one of those for about 10 years! they don't go away,.. you might aswell just succomb and do everything you want to.. get me... i'm old!
  2. Just like to thank everyone for all the replies.. really useful and friendly forum, glad I joined. I will be buying my grasshopper (probably with a tuned tamiya motor as extra because the kit motor is a 380..) hopefully by the end of june. I'll post pictures of its construction as i go. once again, thanks and cheers!!
  3. I see,... well i wont be buying on eof them! I'm building mine from the ground up, if it breaks its my fault! looking forward to it so much now.. can't wait to buy it and get cracking!
  4. they look cool as ****... i'd really lie a sand scorcher but at the price they are i just can't justify it.. seen some other really cool looking wheels and tyres on the website of the shop i most probably will be buying from (wanderland in edinburgh).. there were chrome ones and all sorts.. and to think i thought mine were cool painted silver! (and then blue, but that was a mistake..) i'm looking at having all the stuff ready to buil by end of june so its a long term project as you can tell!! my idea at the moment is to post pictures on here as i go and seek advise/hints/tips etc on how to get the best from the build from the good people on here.. nothing but good peeps so far!!
  5. I'll keep it in mind for when i'm up and running.. have to take baby steps at the moment! Saving for kit and radio gear first... then.. who knows where it'll go!
  6. maybe in a couple of years when i've saved up again! checked out prices for brushless motors (which is part of the reason i started this thread coz i was confused) and was a bit shocked at the
  7. standard tamiya motor still is a rs540 i believe and thats what they all have.. i think my mates hornet was just run on crap batterries that were never charged properly and couldn't provide the motor with enough power to reach its potential. i've seena vid on youtube of a grasshopper on a beach racing a nitro powered car and it leaves it for dead.. obviously don't know what the grasshopper was running (ie was it tweaked etc..) but it was almost flying!
  8. Adding on to this... I've just checked wanderland models in edinburgh and they're doing grasshopper for ,£70 and a starter radio kit for the same so i can be up and ready to start for lesss than the kit of the boomerang alone.. can you hear the cogs turning?!! looking at the hornet aswell, however a pal of mine had one and it was slow as hell (compared to mine anyway).. anyone know how the performances of the hornet and grasshopper compare?
  9. I am actually a grandad, but I wont get into all that!! I want the actual experience of building it, painting it etc.. then running it.. I may get a more powerful modern base etc in time and put a retro shell on it but I want to "cut my teeth" as it were, on a proper tamiya nostalgia piece. I've priced up a sand scorcher but they're coming in at well over 200 quid so thats out!
  10. been trawling ebay and my local model shops website... there's some cracking looking kit out there! thinki i might get some chrome wheels for my new project.. (whenever I get the project bought of course!)
  11. 36 this year... although facebook age test said 67... BTW that midnight pumpkin looks awsome.. I'd also really like a Subaru Brat, I can always get a Frog body and wheels if i feel like a change as they are the same underneath (at least I think they are!
  12. Also would like to say thanks for all the replies and information given.. I feel most welcome on this forum (I'm a member on other forums for other interests and there's usually no end of people willing to slate you for not knowing something!!) and look forward to going through the threads and picking up info as I go.. Cheers!
