  1. Thank you guys thats much appreciated! I am also currently reading through the 'Electric Guide' which has kind of answered this for me too, should have started with the stickies! Again thank you though, puts my mind at ease.
  2. I have this charger from years ago which says on MS will charge both NiCad and NiMah. http://www.modelspor...roduct_id=13082 Can anyone confirm this will be ok to charge with as I read it can be dangerous to charge a Nimh battery with an old Nicad charger... Any help appreciated!
  3. Hi guys Apologies for what may seem a dumb question, but I just bought the LRP S10 Blast TX 2 for my son seen here: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/lrp-s10-blast-tx2-rtr-4wd-truggy/rc-car-products/379726 I bought with it the Overlander 3300 Battery seen here: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/overlander-3300mah-7.2v-sport-stick-pack/rc-car-products/376164 I asked with a message to MS when purchasing online if this battery was ok to use in the LRP Truggy. I didnt get a reply, but the full order turned up and now I am unsure if this battery will damage the car if we use it. As far as I am aware the amp hours should be the only difference as it is still just a 7.2v battery, so I believe it will be fine. Can anyone confirm for me if the car will be fine to use with this battery, I really dont want to disappoint my son by ruining his car the first time he tries it... TIA
  4. Hi guys My car went in to my local model shop a few weeks ago, where I found out the piston was shot in my engine. The shop says the repair would be almost as much as a new engine, so just get a new engine... Then they call me and say they cant do it, as my car needs a rotary carb and you can only buy slide carbs now and these will not fit my car. Sooooo... I need to buy the HPI
  5. I hear what you're saying... Of course I wouldnt expect anyone to know whether they could confirm engine damage without seeing it, so I am taking the model shops word on that part of it at least. My main worry was should I really expect the cost of replacing a piston to be more than a new engine supplied and fitted?
  6. Hi guys Got a Rush Evo car about a month ago from ebay, advertised as working but couldnt get it going. Got tons of help from people on here, but alas nothing! Took it to my model shop who said (after almost 2 weeks ) that the piston is shot and it will need a new one, but a new engine would be cheaper after they have added their fee for doing the work. Now first off, do you think their advice was correct? (As my other posts state, so far I am a real newbie with RC gear atm) Also, if they are correct, should I look to buy an upgrade on the standard engine for a little more poke? And if so, what engine would you recommend? I will attempt to fit it all myself, as I did learn a lot by stripping down an old nitro car I had in the loft for years a few weeks ago and got it working... yey me! I just dont know if they are giving me good advice or not, and also what engine I should go for if I do need one... If anyone has got an engine for sale that would be good, I am also open to buying from members here. TIA Steve
  7. Once again thanks for the response and info... I am gonna try all that now, failing that I will drop it off at the model shop tomorrow. At this rate summer will be over before I get it working. Thanks again guys. Steve
  8. Ok tried again using all the tips mentioned and also dropped in at my local model shop. Sadly, still a no go. It just doesnt seem to want to come to life at all. I dont even get a hint from it that its about to fire up. So thats a few new parts, new fuel (how long it was on the shelf I dont know), tuned to manufacter standard recommendations, applied all the direction you guys so kindly gave and then spent another hour of priming and pull starting... still dead as a Dodo. The model shop says drop it in and they will keep it for a week and getting it all working spot on for
  9. Some great advice guys, thanks! I'm gonna set it up now as per your instructions but cant try it again now until tmrw, my son has gone to bed and I'll have one upset wife if I wake him up. I will be sure to drop an update tomorrow though, thanks again! Steve
  10. Thanks this is very helpful and also gives me a glimmer of hope, but can I ask 2 things? 1) When you say "hsn" fully closed, what is the hsn? Sry, but as I said I am relearning all this. 2) I dont understand what should be 1mm on the carb? Do you mean the literal gap I can see when I take out the air filter and look down? Steve
  11. Thanks for the info Adam I did set everything back to standard as per the manual that came with it, but that said fully clockwise was closed, then turn 3 full turns anticlock wise and this is the standard setting, but thats not flush with the neck right now. I'll give it a shot and see what happens, not sure how much more my fingers can take though! My finger is quite literally bleeding from all the pullstarting.
  12. Hi guys (n gals) I got an HPI Rush Evo from Ebay the other day which was sold as working, but "might need a glow plug cos it took a while to start it last time he tried" as he explained it. I have since got it, cleaned it, bought new fuel and glow plug, even though the old one glows perfectly if I put it in the Glow Charger while looking at it. I have checked all fuel lines are clear, heated it with a hair dryer for 15 mins, flooded it and then removed the glow plug and turned upside down and flushed it out to "un"flood it, then spent about two hours priming and pullstarting with obsolutely no response!! Any idea what I could be missing here? I am new back in this game after years of not touching RC cars, and I have read all the sticky guides on the forums and scoured through the forums for advice but cant do anything more that I can see. So I am basically coming to you directly in a post to see if you can help me get it going please? It all looks fine and dandy, but could there be something unseen in the engine thats knackered do you think? It makes no horrible sounds when pull starting, in fact it sounds very smooth when I have the glow plug out, but a bit lumpy when its primed. So far I havent even got as much as a smoke fart out of it, just the same sound of a failing pull start over and over... So I am at your mercy... any ideas AT ALL would be appreciated please! I'll try anything at this point, or will buy some parts to get it goin if you think I need to. TIA Steve
  13. Ok thanks for the advice, I will do it as I need to strip it down and get it cleaned up quite desperately. I also think I might have found the make and model of this car, what do you think? Could it be a G.V. Models Cobra? I found a stick in the spares box with Cobra on it, and looking at the latest Cobra 2 they make, it looks very similar in its build. However, I cant find any info on the Cobra that I assume is version 1 from yesteryear. Could I be right on this assumption?
  14. holy cow! Thats the pull start I need alright! I found the casing from the old one in a box of spares, and its identical to that one, excellent. Sorry for being dumb, but I didnt quite understand what you were saying here: I really am a newbie to this after years of not touching RC Cars so I am learnign all over again. Gonna read some of the stickys about engine and car management and servicing to see if it helps me, trouble is some of the terminology is beyond me right now. I'll soon learn though.
