Pellet or air guns and cross bows are under the same laws right just use common sense?
Think I'm gonna dip a toe into another hobby. A side beach.

I expect to see far more restrictions on air powered weapons moving forwards. Doesn't help that plenty of muppets own them.
You can only buy them, or collect them in person these days. The laws relating to where you can shoot them also means that even innocently plinking in your back garden may see you on the wrong end of the law if someone complains that your activity in any way makes them afraid or uncomfortable. By the letter, anything within 15 metres of the centre a highway is also a no no should anyone raise a whiff of concern for their well being, so that rules out a lot of back garden activity (neighbours etc). Likewise should any pellets pass beyond your boundary, you commit an offence.
Anything over 12ft lbs is a section 1 firearm and if you get caught without a licence you can be sentenced for up to 5 years AFAIK. Armed trespass is another consideration, so make sure you have written permission from the land owner in any area you shoot.
Joining a club is a good option.
I cant comment on crossbows as I have never owned one - but yeah I would be careful.

Get a bus or walk. Little short on the rent? Don't buy stuff you don't need in future. Washing machine blows up? Wash your clothes in the...
