  1. Well, maybe the Hyper ST - the one I built. I wont probably ever get a car of that quality again - or be able to afford one! I also liked the Baja SS I bought because of the simplicity of the self contained removable radio tray that you could take out when you wanted to wash the car down. But actually the best car I ever bought was my first Mini ST, which was also my first ever nitro. That is because I got to spend some time with with Carl (Mr.T) and came home with a stonking little car to boot! Was a great couple of hours - and I'm glad I went to collect it. The car was an absolute hoot as well I never managed to meet up with Carl again, unfortunately Cheers
  2. What is the condition of the engine? Much compression? How much and what type of fuel has been put through it? What are the servos in it? Cheers
  3. Nice looking car. Always loved the wheels on the Trophy. But it is never an end, you will buy more It is like a disease, and an addiction and a sickness of the mind all rolled into one! Where abouts in Cannock are you from? I'm originally from Hednesford Cheers
  4. Lurking like a ninja!

  5. It has been so long, I cant remember what I did now. What mesh issues do you mean? The ones from my build thread? That was standard ST Pro kit, so there was no mis match. That said I did kill 2 pinions after buying a car from someone who had put spiders front and rear. I ran it without checking it - silly me. After 5 mins the pinions were nothing but swarf in my diff cases =/ Luckily the ring gears on the diffs were fine, so it was a lucky escape really. I pop back now and again and lurk a bit. Not really actively into the hobby at the moment but I like to try and keep up with whats happening. I might have an ST again 1 day........
  6. I had a right old time finding black wheels for my ST Pro. In the end I made my own as I couldn't find anything worthwhile. I used vinyl dye and it was rubbish. I would use black material dye in future Dye the standard ST wheels, they will look pretty cool and there are loads of 'how to' information on forums and on youtube.
  7. I can also second the ST Pro as a bashing tool. It is also an entry level racer as well if you set it up right (see the link in my sig for a 3 part build thread). I am a big ST Pro fan and have owned a few - both nitro and brushless. There are a few issues out of the box though. Standard brakes are fairly weak, so upgrading is worth it. Changing/working on the diffs/diff cases is tedious. Diff cases have a weakness in design that can mean the sop section where the bolts pass through shears off - but only under extremely bad landings / treatment. Slightly differing lengths of front and rear CVD's can cause you to put them in wrong and have the ball ache of re-doing them if you are not on the ball - otherwise they pop out. Grinding woes if you don't make sure your diffs are shimmed properly if you use spiders in front and rear - also make sure your minion is in the right place! (easily avoided though) Spider diffs are an absolute nightmare to seal if you use diff oil (in the end I just ran with standard diffs front and rear and just kept the centre spider diff) Benefits out of the box are: A fair amount of upgrades over standard. Tough and capable Easy to get spares - and it shares some components with the hyper 7 Good handling Good jumping Good speed - even with a .21 Easy to convert to Brushless Fairly cheap 2nd hand, and fairly available. Pretty good looking for an older model Here is the one I built : Cheers
  8. Yes, fast, very tough and for a while the must have 1/16th. But the novelty wears off and where I ran mine it was useless. Too small to cope with even moderate rough stuff. Too powerful to actually handle properly around a track - constant spin outs and wheel spins. Half-full throttle it was too fast to handle at all, and any turns (unless on concrete) would be met with rolls or massive under steer. Absolutely no mid air control for jumping. Take off and cross your fingers. That said, it was a tough cookie, and was simple. Charge the lipo's, connect them up and off you go. When I had mine it went through a few forum users after I sold it - presumably for the same reasons. I also saw a lot of other MERV's being sold too. I think it is just too small and too powerful. Fun to start with, but going up and down the field/car park in straight line soon loses its appeal But thats just my experience with it compared to my other cars like a Mini ST, Hyper ST, 8ight buggy, Revo, Losi XXL etc etc. It just didn't work for me personally. Cheers
  9. Losi appears pricey but you have to remember you are getting a
  10. The hyper 9 has a very cramped chassis from memory. Might be a ball ache to work on. I also remember they had problems with their plastics being weak, but that is a long time ago. But still I would look into it and see if was fixed (I am assuming it was.) If you want new, then the 8ight 2.0 RTR will probably do everything you need, and if you take off the
  11. The only one I can think of was the MERV VXL. Silly fast, and handled like a brick. Couldn't control jumps and couldn't turn or handle round a track of loose dirt without spinning out. So it just ran in straight lines up and down. That said I did run it into a metal skip at high speed and it survived - unhurt. I couldn't believe it! So kudos for durability heheh Cheers
  12. What is the car going to be used for primarily? I would say the Losi will be the best all rounder. I had a standard 2.0 and bashed with it. It was a tough car. Took a lot of punishment. I also know of people who bash the T as well, and it stands up very well. Likewise, it can be set up as a competent racer. Spares are available, and if you fancied a change there is a brushless conversion kit for it too I have never used THE car, but I would imagine it is more of a racing pedigree car more than a basher, which I suppose is great if you are racing. I have no idea how it would hold up as a basher though.... Cheers
  13. I have just sold up, so I wont be running. Will pop down and say hello though.
  14. "Disposophobia" It affects many people but its unclear if its a psychological condition in its own right or an element of OCD (Obsessive Compuslive Disorder). It has varying levels of severity, with the highest resulting in the inability to throw anything away......ever. (Anyone remember Edmund Trebus?) I know we can all have a giggle and think "thats not me" but think about it - How many of us save things because "that will come in handy" and its still there 5 years later having never been used? If you are keeping things and dont know why or feel like you 'cant' throw them away or sell them, it could be a mild form of Disposophobia - also known as compulsive hoarding. OR You could just be an RC enthusiast. Cheers Matt
  15. Back to the original topic.......... I only have a short amount of RX wire coming out of the top of the aerial tube, then I fold it over the side and slip the cap over the top. I stopped using caps because I kept losing them every time I rolled, so I used to use fuel tube instead. To be honest I think 12 inches might be a bit OTT for the length of your aerial. I would say in most instances, as long as your RX wire clears your shell by a few inches you should be ok. Also it can pay to glue your aerial tube into its holder as well, otherwise it can keep popping off, depending on the car and the tube holding mechanism. (BUT BE CAREFUL NOT TO GLUE YOUR RX WIRE AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!)
  16. Now Sold pending payment. I will update again when the sale is complete. Thanks
  17. Yeah thats why I think its particularly nasty. Normally you get a fake paypal site by clicking dodgy links in emails or on ebay. But this one was was either: Redirecting to a fake paypal site even when typing the address directly into the address bar or when clicking on Paypal's link after a google search......... Or allowing a user to get to the genuine Paypal site and enter username and password and somehow knowing to spam the false 'verify details' box as soon as you click Login. Either one is a pretty nasty piece of malware, and I am concerned now as to what other details they may have robbed from me. I think I am going to stop using facebook as well, because everytime I have had problems with malware on my system it has always originated from Facebook. even though I dont install anything or give permission to anything. Grrr Anyways, hopefully people will remember this post and be wary if it happens to them. I cant recommend Malwarebytes enough. Its free (but you can pay for a better registered version) and it finds everything. I used it on my other halfs laptop when norton, Spybot and windows malware scanner missed a java based trojan. Top marks from me. Also the databases are updated regularly. Cheers
  18. Original post updated with new info
  19. I am going to paypal via google. Also tried typing in directly both at .com and .uk sites. All attempts give same message. running spyware checks now..............
  20. ----****UPDATE****---- Hi again folks, Just to let you know I done a complete scan with malwarebytes last night, and it found 7 infections, several of which were trojans and registry entries. This was obviously a particular nasty type of infection that actually transfers the user to a fake 'verify details' screen even from the genuine paypal site login page. I think it must be coded to activate when clicking the login link after entering email and password. Luckily I have my password as a macro on my keyboard so hopefully a key tracker would only track the pressing of the macro key and not the entire chain of my password. I havent been able to put my finger on which infection was causing this, or why I had so many infections in the first place. But whatever the problem was, Malwarebytes has fixed it and I can now login as normal.....1st job was to change my password! Below is a copy of what it found: Registry Values Infected: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\WGZC6D2B0F7DYE6EIVRLLCFROICUQA (Trojan.Spyeyes) -> Value: WGZC6D2B0F7DYE6EIVRLLCFROICUQA -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. Folders Infected: c:\Recycle.bin (Trojan.Spyeyes) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. Files Infected: c:\programdata\eloinio06300\eloinio06300.exe (Trojan.FakeAlert) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. c:\Users\Matt\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\deployment\cache\6.0\41\307c15e9-2738ac7f (Malware.Gen) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. c:\Recycle.bin\b62b2f3a558.exe (Trojan.Spyeyes) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. c:\Recycle.bin\e30a826294f00a3 (Trojan.Spyeyes) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. I'm guessing it may have been the fake alert trojan. Anyways, I reckon this should be pinned as I have tried googling this particular problem, and I cant find anything. The only Paypal scams listed are ebay and email ones, not one that causes a fake login box even from the official paypal site. I ALMOST filled it in last night, but as Iain has said below.....it is rather inquisitive and I was totally suspicious why they would want my CVV2 number AND my full verified by visa password. Anyways, it looks like I have got away with it, but I reckon theres a fair few that would have completed the form. I have never seen or heard about this particular malware, so I wonder if its new? Cheers for your input guys. Matt Hi folks. Just tried logging into paypal and I am getting the below message. Smells very off to me. Why do paypal need to know my card details including cv2? When I put a card number in they also want to know my full verified by visa password as well?? Can anyone comment on this? I used paypal last week and didnt have to do this at login. Thanks
